MakairodonX’s Marvelous Mind

A nigh-exhaustive sheet of illustrations I’ve made of some of the various Kami or nature spirits that inhabit the magical island continent home of Keiko Yamamoto and her friends, complete with scientific names as if they were described by an inter-dimensional team of paleontologists and zoologists. All these creatures, which were once revered by the animistic Ancient Aetherosians for centuries and possess both positive and negative traits and can be either helpful or harmful to humans, aren’t known by their binomial names in-universe and are found throughout Aetherosia’s forests, wetlands, mountain valleys and deserts, and many of them are the tutelary spirits of their lands, such as the horned, Fire-breathing theropod Julius being the tutelary guardian of their Hills of Fire. These Kami (none of which are shown to scale here) come in a variety of shapes, sizes snd abilities, and will be touched upon in future posts. But for now the most common nature spirits that occupy the herbivore niche are Lophosaurus and Megapodosaurus, the piscivorous Phoenicopterusaurus is found near rivers and lakes, and the dominant top predator is the horned Carcharodontosaurus relative Ceratovenator ferox, which was once widespread throughout Aetherosia but was heavily hunted by goblins and humans alike for its horns, which were said to have medicinal properties, during the 50-year-long Arpan-Thuban War, and was thus driven to extinction with the last-surviving members of the species such as Julius himself hiding in the Hills of Fire. It is only with Keiko’s magical assistance and her affinity with the natural world that these creatures come to her aid in preventing the Arpanians and Thubanians from seizing the Golden Orb, the most sacred possession of the Dynasty of Trians which once ruled nearly the entire world for over two millennia, during the final Battle of the Forest of Hope.

Welcome to Hell’s Aquarium - A scene depicting fauna from the Coniacian-Campanian-aged Niobrara Formation/Smokey Hill Chalk of Kansas, from right to left: Xiphactinus audax, Enchodus petrosus, Clidastes propython, Cretoxyrhina mantelli, Hesperornis regalis, Pteranodon longiceps, Dolicorhynchops osborni, Elasmosaurus platyurus, Pentanogmius evolutus, Pachyrhizodus caninius, Squalicorax falcatus, and Tylosaurus proriger.

Sketch Assortment I’ve made of the fauna of the Campanian-aged (approx. 83–74.5 mya) Anacleto Formation of Patagonia, which is famous for the Auca Mahuevo nesting site where hundreds of titanosaurs came to lay their eggs in shallow pits which they dug with their hind feet and left for the hatchlings to fend for themselves.

Page 2, from top to bottom: Antarctosaurus, Barrosaurus, Chadititan, Laplatasaurus, Narambuenatitan, Pitekunsaurus, and Gasparinisuchus

Here’s a few color pencil sketches I’ve made of some cool Cretaceous dinosaurs, from bottom to top: Utahraptor ostrommaysi, Iguanodon bernissartensis, two Deinonychus individuals compared in size to my human oc Samantha, and Centrosaurus apertus!

Here’s an illustration I’ve made of two male Xenovenator espinosae, a newly-described Troodontid from the Cenomanian Cerro de Pueblo Formation of Mexico which had a skull roof that was surprisingly similar to that of the Pachycephalosaurids and would have engaged in similar interspecific behavior as a result, headbutting each other in order to win a harem of females in the background…

“Don’t keep shooting at me like this!” Keiko said to the two double-engine Thubanian bombers that were pursuing her in her bird form. “You have both been killing crowds of innocent people with your guns and bombs in your conquests of this land, and I implore you both to stop your wanton raids and to turn back home!”

As the two planes continued to relentlessly try to bring her down with their gun-fire, the sorceress soon had no choice but to turn around and attack them with her wings and talons…

Keiko is currently trying to disrupt the war between the Arpanian and Thubanian Empires and its destructive impact on her island-continent home of Aetherosia with the use of her magic. But each time she does so, the airships and warplanes on both sides increasingly begin to view her as a threat to their plans, and Keiko increasingly becomes more and more desperate to dismantle these weapons of war that have been the cause of so much desolation across her homeland in the first place…

Ladies and gentlemen….I present to you all…the first ever skeletal reconstruction of (former Zalmoxes species) Ferenceratops shqiperorum, the first dinosaur ever described in 2026!

Here’s the exciting new paper about the creature and a few photos of the skull of its closest relative Ajkaceratops:
