They/Them. Doodlin' and snoozin'

I’m Messy, or MD. I draw, and have written some things in the past. This is mostly a Mass Effect blog, but I do reblog anything that takes my fancy. My blog is for adults. Art tag: md art Rarepairs Kolfer (Kolyat x Feron) Kriortez (Thane x Steve) Headcanons/metas tag: md headcanons

I also run the Drell Yeah! community and sideblog for just drell posting

my carrd (you can find my un tumblrable art on Ao3, bluesky and fur affinity which are all linked there.) Resources I've made: Mass Effect 1 Collectables checklist Mass Effect 1 randomisers Mass Effect character model references Mass Effect scenery/architecture/infrastructure screenshots for reference

I don't take commisions or requests.

Will insta block TERFs, SWERFs, AI prompters, all sorts of bigots and phobes, but also people who I just know I can’t vibe with. Life is short and the dash is curatable for a reason.

I can’t speak for other social media webbed sites but I really enjoy how tumblr seems to just completely spin a wheel on whatever media is hot right now. Like yeah sometimes it’s a new show that’s big and actively coming out but also sometimes there will be a solid month where half my dash is Columbo memes. Defy authority. Get really into an book from the 1800s. Watch shows that haven’t aired in 40 years. Celebrate the anniversary of the Boston Molasses Flood. Become unmarketable

oh shit i almost missed it!

was reminded of that youtube channel that records footage of that bridge that scalps trucks today. one of the fascinating developments that's happened since i last heard about it is that, in one of their many attempts to stop the trucks from being can-opened, they installed a traffic light that detects when a vehicle that's over the allowed height is coming and turns red so the driver can stop and hopefully notice the signage all around that's screaming "YOUR VEHICLE IS OVERHEIGHT TURN AROUND" and avoid an accident. However as a result sometimes drivers see the light turning yellow and IMMEDIATELY start flooring it to avoid having to stop, ensuring that the roof of their truck just gets fucking annihilated instantly. Really beautiful stuff you should check it out

the comments have me in tears

It DOES have a sign. It turns on when it detects something too tall for the bridge. It even flashes. And the traffic lights will go red to get people to stop when it detects an over height vehicle so they read the signs. (note this lovely example where the lights are red, because the truck thought it was better than the lights)

every time I see this post I've forgotten how clearly signposted the canopener bridge is, and every time it hits me like a truck (hitting the canopener bridge and getting the top of its trailer ripped asunder)

Convenience isn't bad because of some inherent value in toil or it rots your soul. Convenience is bad because it often comes at the cost of an exploited underclass. I don't care if someone wants to taxi their meal to their house instead of making it themselves or even driving to the restaurant themselves. I care that meal delivery apps underpay their workers (they don't even consider them their workers), provide no workplace protections, and prey on their desperation.

The desire for convenience is a morally neutral thing (no matter how many capitalists want their workers to see unproductivity or aversion to the "grind" as a moral failing). Companies that sell you only convenience by making it worse for yourself and for others are not.

I'm sorry but this is the exact thing I was talking about when I said "convenience does not rot your soul."

You talking to a person over the counter to order food at a restaurant is not an anymore meaningful interaction than talking to someone who delivered that food. Delivery and take-out have always existed. That option to pay more for that convenience has always existed. The major difference now is that most restaurants no longer employ people in-house to do delivery, because it's being done by contracted gig workers who get absolutely no benefits or protections. The major difference now are the working conditions.

I agree societal connections are good, but you just going outside to order food and the coming back is not meaningfullly participating in society. Removing deliveries or any sort of accesibility service (cafes not having wifi for example) will not force people to interact with strangers if they don't want to do that. Convenience facilitates people who already don't want to interact with others, but convenience isn't what's making people lonely! You cannot passively consume your way to community.

Most people aren't gonna talk or build relationships with folks in that restaurant. They're gonna eat and leave, and that's less "community building" than someone who ordered take-out so they can stay home to participate in an online book club or zoom their loved ones in another country. Do not romanticize past toils and lack of accessibility. Convenience and accessibility leads to people having more time to connect with each other, not less.

Trevor Dubois, an indigenous man who was in the hospital for chemo following a brain cancer diagnosis, was murdered by Saskatoon hospital security via. forceful restraint on Friday over a plastic lighter that police are publicly calling an “imitation firearm”. The cops are now trying to make it seem like Trevor had methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia in the hospital room with him after security murdered him to justify what took place.

here’s the saskatchewan health authority’s most recent statement regarding the incident. there’s a lot of talk but nothing of substance is being said. his family just wants answers and yet they haven’t even been told his time of death. his family also believes that the “imitation firearm” in question is a bright pink and green cigarette holder/lighter, but police refuse to release a photo of it.

according to those who knew him, he was a kind person who always went out of his way to help the less fortunate. he was seeking certification as a social worker and was heavily involved in his community. his family also says that he was against anything that has the potential to cause harm to people.

lastly, here is a quote from his brother, ryan (from this aptn article):
