I don't tag posts as nsfw for fear of being put on tumblr's radar again; explicit sideblog is @lagartijasick, non-graphically erotic stuff here is tagged #hot stuff ★ if you'd like me to tag something specific, ask!

Avoidance is the worst reaction to stress. Oh this thing is giving me anxiety? And it's something I could prepare for by looking at it more or learning things about the topic? No, I will take psychological damage if I look at it directly. I will still be thinking about it and be stressed though.

like i really don't think that there's any identity that will protect you from misogyny forever and ever. like. fuck. it's misogyny (and transmisogyny) when cishet football men are called "girls" as an insult. it's misogyny when people use "girlies" as a shorthand for "dumb person i don't like." it's misogyny when a man posts a photo of his embroidery project on instagram and all the comments are hateful. it's misogyny that distance swimming isn't a major sport. it's misogyny that women make less than men across all ethnic groups. it's misogyny that people call biology "female dominated" when 47% of biology professors are women. it's misogyny that a women's L size t shirt is smaller than a men's L size t shirt.

if a trans man gets called a "bitch" that's misogynist because "bitch" is a misogynist slur. if a cis man gets called a "bitch" that's misogynist because "bitch" is a misogynist slur. it's misogyny in both circumstances. it doesn't mean that either of them isn't a man.

if someone calls a straight man the f slur, that's still homophobia. like you understand that right?

and it still doesn't make him gay!

i feel like those posts thatre like “REAL gay people don’t talk about yaoi discourse they go to gay clubs and do ket” are crazy like i understand they’re critiquing a hyper specific genre of online queer but babe they can do both… i know people who are ravers and are always on shrooms and read mcr rpf like i feel like we draw a big line between the online queer community and the in person one but that girls at gay bars have tumblr accounts it’s really not that seperate

the tone makes this sound like they have a recurring problem with people trying to join after a bad breakup and are just sick of this shit

'People who are getting away from a bad breakup' was a major source of recruits for the French Foreign Legion.

I have worked a lot of remote jobs and you have no idea how common it is for someone who just had or got out of a bad interpersonal relationship to decide that they need to find themselves out in the woods and work on their issues, so then they go and get a job that requires close contact with limited group of people and no one else for months on end. And then when they make their bad decisions, (the rebound boyfriend, the one night stand, the long drawn out cry sesh with a bottle of booze in the middle of the night on a work day) they're still stuck with the same 6 people on a mountaintop for another 7 weeks who are all forced into front row seats to bear witness to the ongoing character development until the guy who is nominally in charge has to make a rule about no fucking in the cook tent, because its the only structure big enough for us all to get out of the rain and while we're all glad that Sarah is taking charge of her own life after her boyfriend cheated on her by fucking literally the only eligible man for 200 miles in every direction, the rest of us would like a hot meal.

i hope the original author sees this thread go by (or y'all are leaving comments on ao3), there is a A LOT of love in the tags and they absolutely deserve it

hey, I'm isaac chotiner I wrote this! I thought a small handful of people might enjoy it and instead it is by some margin the most popular thing I've ever posted on ao3. two key takeaways: 1) the people crave affectionate fidelity to the new yorker style guide, and 2) yuletide rules

Matt Levine linked to my fic in Money Stuff and described it as "Isaac Chotiner/Shirley Jackson fan fiction," I feel like I'm on drugs and/or hallucinating
