overarching gorillaz lore is so much more interesting when you view it through the lens of ‘this is a projection of two creators navigating the troubles in their lives both individually and with each other in an abstract medium’ beyond simply just the fictional characters’ world. like if you know anything about the reason behind the fall of gorillaz after plastic beach it is really really interesting to look at their most recent albums and their revival albums in general, these two dudes had a very unhealthy dynamic at the beginning of gorillaz and eventually it became extremely one sided and full of disagreements, the singer wanted to focus on making what he wanted and already had his own side band but it created so much conflict in terms of contradicting directions for where they wanted both the music direction and art direction to go. the fall is the short and mellow album following their fallout after plastic beach. song machine is an apology album for what happened with demon dayz and plastic beach by far, the lost chord is definitely one of the most symbolic representations of this in the album, definitely désolé. really the whole album
