I would LOVE to!!! My DMs are always open, btw, but here are some Thoughts™️ off the cuff ✨️
I like to think Blanc wasn't up front with his polyamory, because he's gone so often (we know that Blanc gets stir crazy between cases) and doesn't want to scare off the only man who's consistently been there when he returns home. So then maybe he takes the chance. He's scared. He loves Phillip. But he knows he deserves to know.
Of course, Phillip takes it brilliantly. He loves Blanc, and he's more of a homebody anyway. So as long as Blanc communicates with him, stays safe, etc., he's totally chill with Blanc letting off some steam while across the country, and even potentially bringing another man into their relationship.
The latter doesn't happen for years. Phillip and Blanc marry, (because I refuse to believe they aren't husbands LMAO), they remain open, all is well and lovely. Blanc just hasn't been with anyone he's connected with enough to introduce to Phillip.
Then he finds himself in Chimney Rock. And he finds that poor young (killer?) priest on his knees in desperate prayer, and he's wary about the whole situation, because maybe he's just lost his mom (and the stained glass bring back memories of fire and brimstone). And as he's talking to this young man of the cloth, trying to be respectful but falling into brutal honesty, as he tends to do, the priest does the unexpected. He gazes, he listens, he agrees with Blanc, to an extent, and then the clouds open up and bathes him in this golden light as he talks about his faith- all bloodshot eyes and mudstained knees- and oh.
Oh, he's actually quite beautiful. And certainly not a killer.
Then he starts bawling and Blanc's heart shatters and he resolves to stamp down those feeling and help this poor tormented man prove his innocence.
His Road to Damascus moment comes twice.
The second revelation is that, over the course of the investigation, he has become hopelessly smitten with Father Jud Duplenticy.
Over the next year, he visits often, and not just because that miserable political influencer Cyrus is plauging Jud. When he's back home, he tells Phillip about him. Its actually Phillip who encourages him to make a move. At first Blanc is heavily insistent that he simply cannot, the man is likely celibate, it would just be wrong. But then Phillip says something like weren't you the one to tell me how unlike typical preists he is? And Blanc goes quiet.
When Jud invites Blanc to stay for mass, he still declines. But this time, before he leaves, before he loses his nerve.....
Blanc asks him to dinner.
Jud, who has been suppressing his blazing attraction to this erratic (and married, for Christ's [sorry] sake) detective, tries very very hard to be casual when he accepts the invitation. But Blanc is a detective. He sees the stars in Juds eyes. It makes his heart swell.
He thinks Phillip will quite like him, too.
