Can I take a moment to talk about this moment in the movie?
It often gets overlooked, because it happens right after the Blink/Mush tummy pat, and just before Jack hugs Les, and it ends up being forgotten about.
This is one of the reasons why I love Sarah as much as I do. This is her being the big sister she was written as.
From what I’ve read, she wasn’t intended to be the love interest for Jack. She was simply David’s older sister.
And this, along with a couple other moments in the movie (including her trying to read the article to David) are her being that older sister.
Despite what Disney might try to sell now, the vast majority of siblings I know aren’t the quarrelling type. Yeah, you have some siblings who fight a lot, but really, they’re the exception, not the rule.
So to see a pair of siblings close in age where they not only get along but openly show affection for each other in a movie or TV show without someone cracking a joke or ruining the moment is amazing.
And, aside from that, she’s the one to initiate the hug. She sees him, down-hearted and unsure if this will work, and she reaches out, pulls him in, and hugs him.
A lot of what Sarah does in the movie can be brought back to David and how it will affect him. During the fight with the Delancey brothers, she shouts for both David and Les to run and leave her behind, presumably to assaulted. And it’s just, the fact that she really doesn’t give a damn about herself if her brothers are in danger, and her reaching out to comfort him, and just the little sibling moments between these two are really what make Sarah my favorite character.

Sarah is really a great sister when you break it down and avoid the cringe-worthy puppy love they snuck in. I’m not sure how it is with younger fans now but, back on the NML i don’t think anyone seriously hated her. Hell, i don’t think she was even disliked; just overlooked unless we were making fun of her way-too-easy things to make fun of.
Which, ya know, hilarious. But we lovingly abused everybody in the movie. Les got kicked whenever he opened his mouth, Jack became a dumb blond, David had an exaggeratedly slowwww reaction time to everything, Medda really held drag queen competitions, etc. Why? Because we can.

i'm a very opinionated person but i think most of my takes are pretty lukewarm when it comes to controversiality in this fandom. that being said,
i hate the broadway newsies color palette. i think it's boring and uninspiring and lacks personality for the characters. there's nothing there - and also, give jack his red back. he needs it

this is so fun i lovelove looking at outfits. as much as i love her fabulous hat in the broadway version, this outfit will always be iconic to me. the variety in purples and the pink. the feathers, the small detailing. it suits her wonderfully and i find it easier to look at (as the broadway version does have more patterns - which is fabulous, i just have issues with processing things like that sometimes)
