it’s the way he says it—easy, casual, almost mindless. like he’s commenting on the weather or the plot of the show flickering on the screen. it’s just chan. he’s always been the type to speak his heart without overthinking the polish, and usually, you love that about him.

but this? it sits in the air between you like lead.

you shift from where you’re curled up on the couch beside him, your shoulder losing its warmth as you pull away just a fraction. you tilt your head, searching for his gaze, but he’s still looking at the tv. he looks relaxed. he looks like he hasn’t just shattered something.

you freeze. the air in your lungs feels thin. "why," you pause, the words tripping over the sudden lump in your throat. "why would you think that?"

i do go to local shows. that doesnt mean that the pricing of larger shows is not incredibly frustrating and inaccessible . and im sick of comments like this.

Also maybe I'm not interested in local shows. Maybe concerts are very overstimulating and energy consuming for me, and I'm only willing to brave the noise and crowd for artists I already know and enjoy. Maybe I'm basic and boring and just want to see my basic and boring big name artists. Maybe live music isn't only for the artsy fartsy types with a deep passion for live music and a smug sense of superiority for not liking popular things.

I'm all for supporting smaller artists and your local scene, but "just go to local shows!" is not an actual solution for the parent of a 10 year girl who doesn't want anything for Christmas but Taylor Swift tickets, or a huge who Willie Nelson fan who just wants to see him live just once before he dies, or someone who want to be able to get lawn seats for Lady Gaga without emptying out their entire savings. You know, the average big name concert goer.

"I confessed, to the wrong priest" is my favorite line in Wake Up Dead Man, because it's so subtle and yet so kind. Martha has been so dismissive of Jud the whole movie. Not outright mean, of course, but she clearly saw him as a tenant who sometimes gave her a hand rather than a priest, and put him down when he seemed to overstep by acting like one. The line is an admission that not only Jud is a priest, he's a priest who does share the beliefs she's built herself over for decades. Even disillusioned by Wicks's self-serving hypocrisy, he still allows her to see her faith as a moral pillar. It's saying "I should have trusted you, and if I had, maybe none of this would have happened".

It's the "because you are a good nurse" of the movie.
