every girl should have a terrace or a balcony or a sprawling secret garden hidden from the outside world but containing beautiful mysteries and hidden worlds but we don't and that's why the world is going to hell in a handbasket

midsummer vignette

waking up to birdsong, fresh strawberries for breakfast, picking wildflowers, dining outdoors, grilled vegetables and chèvre with rosé, sun-bleached linen clothes with tattered loafers, the comforting greens of nature all around, lying on a blanket in the garden with a good book in hand, the scent of sunscreen and freshly cut grass, going for a swim with friends and the family dogs, throwing on an old wool jumper to go watch the bonfire at night

july mood

  • slow mornings — baby blue gingham pajamas, coffee and journaling on the patio, fresh berries to top a bowl of greek youghurt
  • reading a book on the sunny steps of an ancient cathedral, a gust of wind softly flipping the pages
  • swimwear as underwear — coming by a beach on your walk, just slipping out of your breezy linen pants and sliding into the sea
  • a weathered table in the garden shaded by the foliage of old crooked trees — juicy peaches on a piece of china, a carafe of icy water, bees flying all around
  • the scent of sunscreen and hot stone, the rhythmic tunes of street musicians, and the happy chatter of tourist groups crowding the city square
  • a large wedding, guests dressed in pastel shades and silk and summer suits, dancing as the sun sets, happy to be celebrating love
  • a languid summer's afternoon where heat makes the air tremble, sipping iced tea and trying to finish your favourite ice cream before it melts onto your fingers
  • spending the hottest midday hour in a small but air-conditioned art gallery, chatting with the owner and learning more about painting and sculpture
  • a storm raging outside as you read, curled up in the corner of the couch with the family pet, pausing at times to watch the lightning

so unfortunately college isn’t just about performing ancient greek rituals with your friends

This is how I originally wrote it. One of those that starts as a poem and then begs to be a song. I posted a fragment of this on tumblr a while back, but here’s the initial piece in its entirety 🤍
