Saw some shitposts involving humorous edits of Calvin and Hobbes comics and wanted to make one of my own

I don’t know what inspired this specifically but it makes me laugh in a dark humor sort of way

Tried my hand at another one of these dark Calvin & Hobbes edits (cw: gore, violence, child death)

Meet Jolly!

"Well howdy-doody there friend! I'm Jolly, and welcome to Jolly Junction, the bestest and most funnest place in the whole wide world! We got games and toys and candy and rides and everything else that's fun to play with! There's no homework, no chores, and no naptimes, just fun, fun, FUN! It's been so long since I've met another toy like me, you're gonna LOVE it here! Huh? Whatcha mean you're not a toy? Of COURSE you're a toy! Only kids and toys live in Jolly Junction, and you're not a kid, sooooooo... you must be a toy, like me! Ha ha ha, you're funny!"

"Come on, let's go play! We got the biggest and deepest ball pit in the world over here! I'll bet you can't beat the diving record! The last toy who went in is still down there, and she went in a whole month ago! Oooh, or we could ride the roller coaster! The best part is where it goes up super-duper fast and you fly off into the air! Just be sure to bounce when you hit the ground- a lotta toys forget to do that and end up breaking n' making a big mess. They musta eaten a lotta cherry pie before they got on, cuz they were full of a lotta red gooey stuff! Oh, speaking of which, you want some snacks? We got cotton candy n' ice cream n' soda pop n' milkshakes n' chocolate bars n' lotsa lotsa jellybeans! Huh? Well of course we don't ONLY eat sweets here, silly billy! They make the bestest burgers n' pizza n' spaghetti over there, all made from fresh n' tasty Play-Doh!"

"Oh wait- where are my manners? I got so excited meeting you that I forgot to give you one of my world-famous welcome hugs! Aww, don't be shy, c'mere! I'll wrap ya up all nice n' tight in my legs so's you can get the biggest, bestest, tightest hug ever! Just please don't spit up any fruit punch when I squeeze ya- the last toy who did that got it all over me and it took for-EVER to wash out!"

Reblogging my latest horror OC. I gotta do more with this fella- if anyone has any suggestions or questions feel free to ask!

One thing I do want to stress about Jolly, before anyone does ask: although human adults rarely survive long when Jolly plays with them, Jolly is not evil or insane. He is simply a toy store mascot incarnate, whose worldview is focused entirely on playtime, toys, and fun, and anything outside that is dismissed as "silly stuff" or "nonsense". If he thinks you're a toy, you're a toy, and there's little you can do to make him see otherwise.

Just saying, this is the best take on the "cute/childish horror trope" because it ALL FITS. His design isn't just for merchandising twisted childhood reasons, but because of his whole character, motives and actions. 11/10

Thank you! Jolly's design was specifically made to look like an actual toy/mascot aimed at children, like he was intentionally made to be cute and marketable. Something that always sort of bothered me with characters like evil animatronics, haunted dolls, killer clowns and other cartoony monsters is when they look too scary. It just begs the question why anyone in the context of the story would think it would appeal to children in the first place. You hardly need to add jagged teeth and bloodshot eyes to cartoon characters to make them scary; simply having bizarre proportions, unnaturally fast/slow body movements, and faces frozen in a wide-eyed grin are enough to unintentionally creep people out.

Also, just a random fun fact: When I think of Jolly Giraffe's actual voice, I picture him being voiced by Tara Strong.

RIP Gulliver 2000-2018

Last night we had to put down our other cat, Gulliver. He was about a year younger than our first cat, Anya, so to lose him only a couple months after her was devastating to say the least. We just finished burying him in the backyard, next to Anya.

It was pretty shocking when it happened- I was feeding him like I always do, when suddenly he let out a guttural yowl and collapsed, passing out and urinating on the floor. He woke up shortly afterwards and we rushed him to the vet. They said he had problems with his heart and liver, and might have had a seizure, possibly from a brain tumor. After all that, we decided to finally put him down. We stuck with him the whole time, and he quietly passed away. I've never seen a pet getting put down before- we were waiting for at least half an hour, but in the end it took them less than a minute to put Gulliver to sleep.

Thankfully, my whole family and I were able to be there for him this time- I was at work when Anya was put down, which made it hard to come home after that, even harder to bury her afterwards. Though regardless, I feel just as drained mentally and emotionally as I was before. It's going to be hard to get used to life without our cats. Take care of your pets, folks. They're only there for a part of your life, but you'll be there until the end for them.

Ever since we buried my cat Anya, I’ve been emotionally drained all week. I haven’t had the motivation to do anything besides lie in bed. I didn’t want to go to work, or draw, or play video games, or go anywhere, or do anything beyond the bare minimum. I didn’t even have a real appetite; I only ate food because I knew I should eat something.

Finally mustering the strength to draw and post that last comic, silly as it was, felt amazing. I’m still depressed about the whole affair and while I know I’ll eventually learn to live without my cat, I’ll never truly get over it. But at least with this, I know things will eventually get better.

RIP Anya 1999-2018

Had to put my cat Anya down today. Been ugly crying on and off all day about it. She'd be 19 years old this year.

Goodnight Anya. You were a good kitty.

Last night I dreamed about an episode of “Pinky and the Brain” where Brain gave himself cancer so he could ask the Make-A-Wish Foundation to let him rule the world, but they wouldn’t grant his wish because he was a mouse and Brain died of cancer and Pinky was really sad
