Rei x Kei Headcanons for when they start dating because I can't take slow burn or this hiatus anymore
-they messily confess to each other in the middle of an argument during the break between their 2nd and 3rd year
-after it happened they spent about a week or more just spending time together without interacting with any other friends just processing this development, figuring out what they want, finally being honest with each other and eventually making out
-their relationships pace mostly follows when Kei is ready for things since Rei is down for literally anything with Kei and says she's ready for anything when she is. But eventually Rei finds out some stuff is still very overwhelming and maybe she's not as ready for anything as she thought
-As you'd guess, Rei is a ridiculously affectionate girlfriend and is so relieved to be able to just express it all genuinely. She dumps it all on her leaving Kei a flustered mess all the time at first. But in between her expresions of affection, Rei switches to anxiously asking 'is this real?' 'is this okay?' 'are you sure about this?' after like every flirt or kiss or anything like that for the first couple months of their relationship forcing Kei to bashfully face how she feels head on by reassuring her. Of course over time they both relax about this
-kei prefers to show affection through actions primarily. As always she takes care of Rei like she always has, makes fun of her for it but still does it. Feeling the need to return all the kindness and affection Rei shows her in some way she starts to find little ways to make her life a little easier or listen to what she wants to do more, stuff like that.
-once they do get comfortable, it's incredible to both of them how natural it feels. To most people looking in from the outside the two are exactly the same as they'd always been. The only difference is that they're learning to be more honest with each other, and once they feel comfortable they're more physically affectionate
-Yatsude is very happy for the both of them and relieved but at the same time she finds both of them even more insufferable and annoying as a couple than before. Also she gives them unsolicited dating advice all the time and they both tell her to shut up
-----
-neither of them are sure what counts as a date, do they count everytime they hang out as a date or is it a specific arranged event? They don't know.
-Kei would never admit it but she likes to show off in front of Rei. If she's on any kind of competitive event she can't help trying a bit harder if Rei is watching and passing glances to see her reaction. Rei absolutely picks up on this and always goes into cheerleader mode, acting like her number one fan and yelling things like 'sign my forehead!' Kei in general just likes to find ways to impress Rei even with small stuff, anything she does well or that she thinks Rei would like, she shows it off.
-Rei sometimes tries to improve at things just for her sake or express affection in new creative ways. Something Kei finds out is that to literally everyone's surprise, Rei is pretty good at cooking. Sometimes she likes to make food for Kei as a treat. Kei on the other hand cannot cook whatsover
-they both brag about each other to other people in different ways. Rei is very obvious and just straight up goes on a whole lovey dovey rant. Kei does it in a way that it almost sounds like she's making fun of her but you can just about tell it's not. She thinks she's being so subtle though
-Rei send a lot of flirty cringy cheesy pickup lines her way and at first Kei would just blush and tell her to shut up which she's used to but the first time Kei replied by saying a pickup line back Rei frantically gay panicked about for like half an hour straight
-Rei starts calling her a bunch of cheesy pet names and Kei genuinely can't tell whether she's doing ironically or unironically. (It's both.)
-if Kei ever got jealous even a little Rei would hamp on it so hard. "Awww you love me so much! You cutie little jealous pants! I can't believe it! You know I could never love anyone even a inch as much as i love you!" Until Kei punches her probably
...that's all I got for now...might do some more another time...idk
School Zone Girls | Family Headcanons | Part 2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaname Yamashiro
-yo her parents are also HELLA neglectful. Like extremely, they're not around
-she's rich. right?
-not to be stereotypical but probably they're a typical portrayal of rich parents where they spoil Kaname with a lot of material items and pampered living but not much love or attention
-but unlike Rei, Kaname doesn't really give a shit that they're not around, subconsciously she does but she's buried the feeling so deep that she doesn't even register it. In fact she's sees them being away as a good think because she can do whatever she wants without consequence
-they spoiled her and never discipline her and when they do show up they're very lighthearted. They're both quite similar to her personality. They're rich so they go out and have fun in between working
-her parents are a super lovey-dovey hetero couple and whenever Kaname sees them on their lovey dovery bullshit she thinks it's disgusting. It's kind of like a, they're so wrapped up in each other that they don't pay any attention to their child, kind of situation.
-Because of that she never wants to fall in love with someone like that which is why she switches relationships so frequently and strings Nakatani along. She gets some sense of satisfaction from just stopping the romance from happening. This is all subconscious
-she doesn't have any siblings either. So she's got the house all to herself
-in all seriousness, she probably is quite lonely because of the lifelong neglect which is why she fills her life with social interactions but since she didn't get an example of being given affection at a young age she doesn't know how to really love them, only a superficial display of affection she saw in her parents between each other
Hinako Nakatani
-she's giving child of divorce ngl
-her parents divorced when she was younger. She got used to hearing loud yelling arguments and used to cry about it in her room a lot.
-she's comfortable with her unrequited situation with Kaname because due to that example she feels like relationships don't work out anyway. However she hopes that there can be which is why she's a hopeless romantic.
-she also holds very closely onto that relationship with Kaname and gets jealous easily because she's afraid of abandonment like what happened with her parents
-anyways, as for her relationship with her parents individually, she's a daddy's girl, she loves with her mom but gets along better with him
-her dad is kind of a girl dad and whenever she's with him he's very affectionate and spoils her and all that but he's around less than her mom.
-probably has a step mom she doesn't like or sumthin
-her mom on the other hand, she argues with her very often. Her mom nags her a lot and she's constantly arguing against it.
-While Yamashiro is rebellious because of her freedom, Nakatani is rebellious on purpose. Anything her mom nags her to do she just instantly wants to not do it
-subconsciously blames her mom more for the divorce than her dad but in all reality they were both probably equally at fault.
-her mom's personality is very similar to hers. Meanwhile her dad isn't at all.
-so there's this little factoid that says she has a younger brother. That makes A LOT of sense.
-she has a younger brother that relentlessly tries to annoy her which is why she's so easily annoyed and so angry about it. Her brother does lots of things to piss her off and she full on screams at him about it
-however despite their almost constant bickering they do have occasional bonding moments and she they do care about each other. She's quite protective of her brother, of anyone is ever rude to him or he does something dumb that could get him in danger she is fiercely protective and she wants him to grow up into a good person. This is where she gets her protective nature from that she displays.
-I'd say they would at least be somewhat close because of they had to experience they're parents fighting and divorce together
Ren Utsugi
-i think for sure she's adopted
-her biological family I headcanon may have been at least somewhat abusive or neglectful which would explain why she acts so much like a child now, maybe she didn't really get the chance when she was an actual kid. Also explains that picture of her that Akutami had where she looked unkempt and unhappy
-but again, that's a bold claim so don't mind it
-but I think she's living with adopted parents/a parent now and has been for at least a little while
-i think they're exceedingly sweet and goofy and caring which is where Utsugi gets it from.
- I have no clue how homophobic adoption centres are in Japan so logistically maybe not but I can see Utsugi having two moms or something like that.
-i don't think she has any siblings but I think she wants them. This is why she makes so many friends. To make up for that and also to make up for the lack of connection she had as a kid too
-gets a long with her new family really well, they have movie and game nights and fun stuff like that.
-she doesn't like to talk about her past and just hopes to move on from it.
-had to take care of herself a lot as a kid and had really bad health too, she's healing from that too
Matsuri Fuji
-so she's said I think at least a couple times that she lives at/around a shrine/temple with her family
-i feel like she has a pretty big family that are quite religious and put effort into being hard working and have very specific rigid beliefs about what it means to be a good person which Fuji follows commitedly.
-whether her parents are around much or not, I can see Fuji having a very close relationship with her Grandma.
-She has the job of taking care of her often which is where she gets her sense of responsibility from and her Grandma has always given her a lot of advice and always told her to be a good person.
-her grandma is always the first person she goes to for advice because she's a good balance of bluntly honest and kind/understanding and she gives the best advice and comfort.
-her family is considered weird and has very specific beliefs. Fuji has bad social skills and life awareness because she was quite sheltered growing up. Her parents/family have always kept her very close, mostly at home, maybe used to be homeschooled, they kept her close and inflicted their beliefs on her and have always been very nosey in her life. She's had helicopter parents/family.
-they've loosened up as she's gotten older but her parents always worried about her from a young age and worried about her capabilities which is why Fuji tries so hard to prove herself
-and to be clear her family (except her sister) is very sweet and very loving and they always have been so certainly no complaints there. Fuji is very confident that she'll always be able to rely on them when she needs anything
-there's that flashback where Fuji had her sister telling her to fuck off basically when she tried to get her attention so let me get into that
-she has an older sister that resents the family's weirdness, she's considered the rebel of the family because she's trying to stick with what's considered normal since she's sick of being judged by people
-Matsuri is the opposite and very obedient towards her families rigid beliefs of goodness and so her sister doesn't get along with her because of it, sees her as the favourite child because she's like that
-So suffice to say Matsuri doesn't have a close relationship with her sister. Their few interactions are usually her sister telling her to fuck or stop being weird, which is part of what prompts Matsuri's insecurity within herself.
-Matsuri really wants to be close to her sister and has tried many a time to repair their relationship but it hasn't worked out.
-She wishes they were close and doesn't wanna give up all together but she's not weird about it like Tsubaki is and as she gets older she's trying to just give her space
-still rigidly follows her family's wants for her and beliefs, she loves and admires them all very much (most of all her Grandma) and she wants to always be loyal to them but parts of her wish they hadn't sheltered her so much so that she had a broader array of skills and didn't feel insecure from people judging her. Thankfully a lot of the time she doesn't even notice people are judging her, but that's also a skill she lost being sheltered.

these headcanons ended up being a bit angsty but as is life
somebody please match my freak
School Zone Girls | Family Headcanons | Part 1
Yo so we never see the parents and usually not the siblings of the characters. Which suck but also it means I'm free to come up with whatever interpretations of them that I want *rubs hands together mischievously* >:)
Anyway I reread this manga recently so here's headcanons about what their family's are like, I hyperfocus wrote all these down in one night without editing them, some of these I came up with when I read it originally and some I came up with today, so yeah here's a bunch of food for the starving fandom
--------------------------------------------------
Rei Yokoe
-so it's confirmed that she has an older brother and it specifically says she's living with him. Plus lives in a small apartment and only calls out for him in this scenes which leads me to believe that she's only living with him
-i can just smell the mommy issues on her I don't know what to tell you.
-An obsessive attachment to a woman and has rejection sensitivity, sounds like mommy issue behaviour to me
-i think probably neglectful mother considering her want for attention from Kei and wanting to be around a person constantly
-i also just get the vibe that she only ever had one parent in the picture, so maybe her mom just got pregnant or whatever with no real relationship idk, either way no dad or anything
-her mom was never particularly attentive and was always quite flaky, went out a lot, did whatever she wanted to enjoy herself. gave her and her brother a lot of independence but not much attention. When they asked for things or showed her stuff she didn't really process it much most of the time
-But the few times she did give them attention she was overly affectionate and acted like nothing happened
-her mom also never really put pressure about doing good in school or anything obviously so that's why Rei doesn't have that at all
-once her older brother was legally an adult/able to live on his own she decided to fuck off and leave the two of them living there on their own. She pays them money to keep them sustained here and there maybe visits once in a blue moon but other than that she's not around
-she's a strange lady
-however Rei has a very good relationship with her brother because of all this.
-They argue at times of course but only in that lighthearted sibling way. They've always had the tendency to play fun games or do silly shit together
-i have a headcanon that her brother is just as weird and goofy as Rei but unlike her he's better at masking it in public or around people he's not close to
-Her brother unfortunately has to work a lot to sustain them both, leaving her alone often but he tries his best to not be like their mom and find time whenever he can to spend time with her
-I think Rei would try to talk about her mom's neglect like it's not a big deal but she's really torn about it on the inside and she doesn't hide it that well. Most of the time she just tries not to think about it.
-it would be fun to write a fic where her mom comes back to visit and Rei's in a weird mood about it which Kei notices.
Kei Suguira
-I think Kei hates doing school work and shit just as much as Rei but the difference is that her parents put pressure on her to be good at it
-i get the vibe that both her mom and dad would be serious people that put focus on having a successful career and the typical family and that kind of thing. They're social norm and rule followers y'know
-i don't think they would be as harsh as other parents and they certainly care very much about their kids and can say that but they try to nudge their kids in a certain direction. As long as Kei has doing her work she can have all the fun she wants outside of that
-both her parents are quite similar to each other and hold pretty stereotypical family roles
-Also I headcanon her parents are homophobic at least somewhat and have brought it up. Because Kei has to be getting her internalised homophobia from somewhere and it doesn't seem to be from her peers or her sister which leads me to guess her parents are
-speaking of her sister, we see her in the manga so I don't have to make up too much about her
-they argue way more than Rei and her sibling. Kei's sister making fun of her a lot is the reason Kei is so competitive and embarrassed easily. she's used to getting mad at her sister a lot so used to defending herself and being hotheaded
-her sister her teases her, she gets mad at her, but at the end of the day if the other really was going through something they would have each other's back. They've got a "only I can shit talk her!" type of dynamic
-I think Kei feels kind of nuetral about her parents, she loves them but doesn't feel close to them or like she could open up in a serious way
-her parents think Rei is really fucking weird and wonder if she's a bad influence but unless they found any major effects or about the gay shit I don't think they would make a big deal about it
Yatsude Negoro
-i think she has a pretty good relationship with her parents
-i feel like neither of them are particularly affectionate. Which certainly isn't from a lack of love, I think they both love their daughter very much they just don't show it in a stereotypical way
-the family love language is acts of service and giving each other advice
-her parents are quite similar to her so they all just kind of understand each other very well
-i think both of them are pretty career driven
-i think one of her parents is tends to be a bit nosey into her life which is where Yatsude gets it from and the other isn't and gives her a lot of space
-i could maybe see her parents being a same sex couple? But also maybe not? Idk either way I do kinda of imagine her having a dad that she has a good relationship with though. Maybe he's the one who's nosey.
-Yatsude says she doesn't have any siblings but she also says this line about little shits.
-I'm guessing that means maybe she has a lot of younger cousins. I headcanon that at family gatherings she always tasked with being the babysitter which is why she's got those mother instincts with her friends
The Hinase Twins
-so they mentioned their mom 3 times in their flashback thing and theres also that picture of them with their awards where they're with I'm assuming the mom
-never mentioned a dad or anything else
-considering that and that their mom probably pushes both of them (or at least with Hiragi at first) to do well in school and extraciruclar activities and the extremely codependent relationship the twins had from a very young age leads me to headcanon that maybe their dad died when they were very young. Like a bit before even the oldest flashback we see of them
-its a very bold claim that's likely not true but it would explain their codependcy, Hiragi's early on sense of responsibility towards Tsubaki and Tsubaki's immediate willingness to lean on that. Maybe their mom prompted them to do well at school or other stuff because she was worried about their future because of that loss or it was a way of honouring him. Maybe their dad was a fairly responsible or serious person
-their dad could have dipped too? That would also explain these things.
-anyway as for their mom, I do think she has overall had a focus on them being very successful, way more than Kei's parents. But I do think she is a fairly affectionate person and is willing to help them do the best they can in anyway they need
-probably works a lot
-doesn't push either of them to makeup if they don't want to, advices them individually when she has the time which isn't often
-pressures them but like in a nice way. And then the rest of the time she's busy
-Hiragi thinks her mom's niceness is fake but does appreciate when she helps
-Tsubaki thinks her mom's niceness is genuine but doesn't appreciate when she helps
-both of them resent their mother for a lack of care and feel the strong need to constantly impress her. They both wish she was more loving but neither of them complain about it out loud. Instead both of them just seek alternate authority figures to lean on (Hiragi through Akutami & Tsubaki through Yatsude)
