Just realised that all of my siblings and I have tooth problems. My sisters and my younger brother have weak enamel (although it’s worse for the brother, he had to have multiple fillings ~ age 7) and while my little brother and I seem to have skipped on the genetics for that, both of us are missing some permanent teeth that never grew in so we’ll just be keeping the baby ones.

Hate it when TikTok farm cosplayers and cottagecore types say stuff like "I'm not going to use modern equipment because my grandmothers could make do without it." Ma'am, your great grandma had eleven children. She would have killed for a slow cooker and a stick blender.

I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have historically been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.

Taking these screenshots from Facebook because they make you log in and won't let you copy and paste:

update from the discord group courtesy of one of my mutuals;

do not trust that damned survey. change your discord password. utilize 2FA.

I use 2FA on every website I log into, and it didn't ask for any details when I took the survey, but I still don't trust that thing at all. One can never be too safe.

to be clear, the one that is a scam is the one that asks for your Discord login information. there is a legitimate one that does not ask for ANY information and that one is a legitimate qualtrics survey from Discord. make sure you always check sites and links before you click on them fellas!

The legit survey has been closed down as of yesterday.

The phishing scam is taking advantage of the high emotions about AI, but if anything online asks for your login info (that is not on the actual verified website that belongs to that login that you navigated to yourself (not a link from an email or post!)), that is a huge sign to STOP.

one of the many reasons why the medicalization of intersex people sucks is that it feels like betrayal to talk about the medical complications that can arise from being intersex. Some intersex people can be more prone to UTIs or genital infections, or have tissue damage from their body producing too little hormones, or are unable to have sex, but society at large takes these issues as evidence that the largely cosmetic interventions they want to perform on intersex people are justified

I think a corollary to this is I don't want my fandom experiences to be unique, I want them to be sincere

That's why I enjoy reading the same tropes over and over again. Those authors are writing those stories from a genuine love of both the tropes and the characters.

It's why I enjoy 17 gif sets about the same 3-second interaction on screen. Each one of those sets was pulled and recoloured and captioned and adjusted because each one of those gif makers wanted to capture that moment and celebrate it.

It's why every "I'm glad you enjoyed it" reply makes me smile when I get one on a comment I left. Because I know replying to comments is hard and kind of awkward, but I also know that the author really *is* glad and I'm happy that I could let them know I enjoyed their work.

I love things that are new, sure. But I also love things that have been done a million times already because I know the person doing it loves that thing too. I love the love they're showing. I love the genuine joy and celebration and community it fills me with.

Comedians in the '70s and cartoons in the '90s: weird how your kids can watch violence and murder on TV but the FCC wants us dead if we say the word nipple.

Internet users in 2025: you didn't warn me that there would be erotic themes in the game you just mentioned which is fucked up because I thought it was going to be a normal "morally struggle with killing people" game but now it's gone too far :-/

A lot of you are playing into a lot more reactionary of hands than I think you would like when you act like tits are more shocking than gun violence.

We need to call people posers again. We gotta. We just gotta. No you aren't a countercultural weirdo because you made a battle jacket, you get tangibly viscerally uncomfortable if someone is breast feeding in public and that is incredibly square of you.

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

I appreciate the sentiment but I don't get all those "we made it to the longest night of the year! the light will start returning soon! it's all uphill from here & we're halfway there!" posts because like. Oct-Dec is the easier half of Winter. Jan-Apr is way harder. there's no big holidays or decorations, everyone is kind of over the whole Cozy Hygge Sweaters & Cocoa vibe so they're just tired & restless instead, and the whole thing is so drawn out & uneventful that it feels like it lasts 10x longer

Meanwhile in Ireland: Spring starts in February :) that’s when the daffodils come up and some other flowers also and the sun only goes down after 5pm

The ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, is "what the fuck is 6 7"

The computer, sadly, misinterpreted the space as multiplication.

Truly the best possible outcome this post could've had

being a trans guy is great because you get all the negative effects of being a woman in a patriarchial society and all the negative effects of being a man in a patriarchal society

The Following is intended to be commiseration with our shared suffering and not derailing.

being a trans gal is great because you get all the negative effects of being a woman in a patriarchal society and all the negative effects of being a man in a patriarchal society

also absolutely not intended to derail and just to be like “fuck this shit sucks and I hate that u guys have to deal with it too”

being nonbinaryis great because you get all the negative effects of being a woman in a patriarchal society and all the negative effects of being a man in a patriarchal society

Its fucked up that 2\3 of the people saying this are now red on shinigami eyes. Fuck Shinigami Eyes actually.

at the risk of sounding like a boomer i dont get gooning

like is it just jacking it multiple times a day or is there something im missing here

From what I understand it originally referred to a specific fetish, but it got stolen and is now just the new way to call someone something akin to "porn addict", "degenerate" or anything else to that effect.

To talk about the original fetish though, from what I understand it's a response to all the "porn addiction" hysteria. Basically, the idea that consuming this content can turn you into some sort of brain-dead pleasure drone who only wants to keep consuming. Essentially, Gooners (the fetishists themselves) are a bunch of people who think that it would be really hot if porn addiction was a real thing. I've seen it compared to hypno, except instead of another person it's the content itself that is doing the hypnosis. The whole idea of getting a bunch of monitors and having porn on all of them, or hiding away in a "goon cave" isn't actually about the porn itself. It's about the idea of it, the idea of having your brain turned to mush as you melt into being a hedonistic drone concerned only with your own pleasure, enslaved by the fake world on the other side of the screen, able only to make yourself feel good.

I remembered seeing this image floating around here a while ago because people found it amusing, but I went looking for it again because I think it's a good example of the whole phenomenon:

I myself am not a gooner. I am not a primary source on this matter, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. But I do have respect for them, to see a whole ass moral panic and then to decide to touch your junk about it shows the unstoppable drive of humanity. That you can never keep a horny person down. It's counter cultural and subversive, a celebration of what is scorned that does not try to make itself acceptable, but instead leverages its unacceptability to push into new territory. Gooners are majestic animals and they have my respect.

It does suck that people keep ruining kink/fetish terms. It's one of my more niche takes, and one I don't talk about much, but I do kind of lowkey think that Charli XCX owes the kink community an apology for what she did to the word "Brat". That shit must be hell for all the actual Brats out there.

This sounds like a shitpost but people should be allowed to be horny. As in, sexuality is just part of life for most people and there’s no reason for consensual sexual behavior to be punished. A celebrity getting “caught” at a sex club shouldn’t be a scandal. No one should be fired for having a fetlife profile outside of work. Nudes getting leaked shouldn’t be career-ending. Denying and hiding (consensual) sexual interests doesn’t make anyone more professional, it just makes everyone more repressed. And sterilizing ourselves to be better work drones isn’t productive, it’s just creepy. I’d rather my surgeon get absolutely railed on camera and come to work in a good mood, frankly.

the amount of ace, aroace, + sex-repulsed ppl leaving support on this post is rly heartwarming

also this goes without saying but is also true of ppl who do sex work for used to do sex work. an accountant’s boss finding out that they used to do sex work shouldn’t be a career ender. a restaurant worker shouldn’t be fired bc they have an OnlyFans.
