brain: what if we gave Daena more trauma about her time with House de Riva? 😈
me: but, but why?! 😭
brain: funsies 😈

I mean between Viago's propensity for poisoning and how I headcanon he trains the fledglings, and Daena's non-standard biology due to being a Valyrian...

yeah, that girl had terrible time there.

inquisitor Daena might have been spared in her verse, since she left for Conclave very soon after Viago's came to power and stayed away for years, though.

yeah.

I basically gave Daena psychosomatic reaction to anything that comes in little vials. She can't take health potions because she immediately feels sick and starts throwing up.

She also won't eat or drink anything if Viago handled it at any point. Still has problems with eating food if she doesn't recognise each ingredient that went into it, even years after leaving House de Riva.

Poor Daena 🥺

It gets better once she leaves House de Riva at least? Because she can vet the kitchen staff and what kind of foods they prepare and the suppliers too. And in the Lighthouse, Bellara is doing the cooking so Daena feels safer eating that.

It's not that Viago was singling out Daena with harsher training or trying to kill her or anything like that.

It's just that her Valyrian heritage means that she doesn't react to stuff the way normal humans would. So Viago would give her a normal dose to get her acclimatised to it and then. Well, she could have no reaction whatsoever. Or she would have much stronger reaction than expected. Or there would be unexpected symptoms that basically nobody else had.

Same with antidotes. She would take one and it technically neutralised the poison but she would have weird side effects.

"Never seen that one before" is not something you want to hear from the people monitoring your health.

Maria Skłodowska-Curie's notebooks are crazy once you think about it. They're so radioactive they have to be sealed in a lead box. Imagine a world where atomic theory is forgotten and a dude just goes "yea there's a book that details the secrets of the universe, the machinations of the creation of existence down to its barest essentials, but if you get close to it you fucking die. The more you read it the more your body slowly disassembles into mush." like wat excuse me

Daughter: You realize this puts you in the top 1% of the top 1%, right? The elite of the elite! That's extremely good.

Father: *glaring at his brand new "#272993 Dad" mug* I still don't like it.

Father's Co-Worker: *drinking out of a "#5122653 Dad" mug* How was Father's Day?

Father: *feeling smug* Pretty great, actually.

fuck this I can't think up anything clever I'm just gonna tag the verse as inquisitor daena

you know, it's great that renarin is explicitly autistic, but it does make for very weird reading when you're reading a chapter from another character's perspective and they're acting exactly like renarin (again, textually autistic) and then you're supposed to believe that that character is not autistic. what do you mean szeth has the exact same dilemmas over making decisions for himself and telling right from wrong and being mocked by his friends, but he's not autistic? ridiculous. especially when it's one of renarin's relatives. i mean, autism is genetic, where do you think he got it from? the man with a rigid, inflexible moral code who is incapable of talking about anything without relating it back to his favourite book? surely not

Renarin: god, I wish I was neurotypical like my brother.

Adolin: hi! I was told how military hierarchy should work, decided it was dumb, and ignored that rule completely for the rest of my military career! I love weapons, so much I insisted on bringing 20 of them to a realm where we have limited carrying capacity and magic necessary to bring said weapons! I have literally fumbled every woman I ever dated because I cannot pretend to be interested in their interest, and struggle to prioritise time with them! One time I bought a girl a sword and then talked about swords to her for an hour! I prefer duels to most other forms of communication!

Just got a chatgpt ad where the use case was "can't decide a new years resolution". I can't think of anything more sad than needing a robot to tell you what your own ambitions are. Loser shit.

i just saw a post on reddit titled "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" and it was about OP clicking off a fic because they don't like the direction it's going in. slightly different context but can we all be more like this reddit OP. i think "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" should be the new "don't like don't read." dead doves may give you diarrhea but don't make that everyone else's problem.

this is a great way to frame it lol like just bc i'm lactose intolerant doesn't mean i should leave a bad review on the ice cream parlor

i was talking to my mom about cardassians and said something along the lines of ‘what must it be like to be a cardassian civilian. like abstractly knowing the rest of the galaxy thinks of your species as ‘the evil ones’ and kinda sorta knowing your government runs labor camps and torture prisons and is a military empire, and it’s a huge deal for everyone else in the galaxy, but you just like run a restaurant so it’s not a big part of your daily life, so you just like, go about your day and make soup and don’t think about it’ and then halfway through my sentence i actually heard myself and then had to go sit down for like ten minutes. like sat down in a chair and stared at the floor for ten minutes

“you can’t hate ICE agents for wanting a fat paycheck” ah yes. people who are willing to disregard all morals for cash. congratulations you played right into their hands you uneducated piece of shit

you couldn’t pay me an amount even feasible to do this evil shit. you are lower than dirt

This. You can and should judge people for working for ICE, they're people who willingly signed up for an American secret police force that's violating the rights of people constantly in order to act as enforcers of a fascist government.

Basically everyone is not an ICE agent. Like, virtually all of us, the entire population, are not ICE agents. No matter how steep our bills are, very nearly every single American is not an ICE agent.

We can, and should, judge them forever. It should be the sort of thing their grandkids are ashamed to discover. The sort of thing that hamstrings a career forever. "What were you doing in 2025-26? Oh, you were with ICE? Thank you for your time, get out right now."

They should all be judged and shunned for the rest of their lives.

My abortion was really one the most hated kind of abortion. I wasn't underage. I wasn't raped. I wasn't in medical need.

I got pregnant not through some fluke or 1 in a 100 contraceptive failure. I got pregnant because I was knowingly and willfully having unprotected sex. Out of wedlock too if that matters.

It was my own fault, I was being irresponsible because I knew I could always get an abortion if I got pregnant. My abortion was as close as it comes to 'using abortion as a contraceptive' as anti-choicers love to say.

I didn't abort it because my health was in danger or because I didn't have the ability to care for it or whatever else. I did it purely because I didn't want a child. I wanted sex and I didn't want to deal with any consequences from it.

There's no moral here. I don't feel bad about it whatsoever. I suffered no karmic consequences or punishment from god. My life is amazing. I want to rub this in the face of every conservative and anti-choicer. I did the terrible thing. I had an abortion for the most selfish of reasons and literally nothing happened. Suck it.

Another thing about light pollution and adjacent things is. They threatened my area with rolling blackouts last winter. Now this was of course largely because the AI datacenters are hogging all the electricity, but in the notifications about it they always specified that that residential areas would be the blacked out areas. Not offices. Not businesses. If you're at home and freezing, well, you can just go loiter in a McDonald's I guess. Never mind that this is extremely difficult for disabled people and often not allowed for pets.

Well, as winter turned into spring, I started biking home from work. A long, circuitous route that took me through residential areas, and past offices and businesses. Offices and businesses that were closed for the day. And yet their signs were still lit up. The lights were still on inside. There were TVs playing in empty breakrooms. All the computers in the school district offices stayed on, their monitors not even going to sleep, all night. Paused to take a break in an empty strip mall once and when I leaned against the glass of a restaurant I could hear the music still playing inside.

Like. There's something deeply rotten about the priorities here. These places that are so flagrantly wasting electricity will never be subject to the rolling blackouts that could freeze you out of your home. Not even at night, when no one is there, when they don't need their lights on. Their waste is prioritized over normal people's life.

i saw someone lamenting that so many tumblr users block eachother before they ever even interact just because the blockee seems annoying. i went to their blog and i looked at their pinned post and then, dear reader, i blocked them
