I really think that they should bring back tenor Ricky. I really enjoy baritone Ricky, since it feels very accurate to how Ricky would perceive Space Age Bachelor Man, but the idea of him having a relatively deeper voice after upwards of a decade without speaking, doesn’t feel all too realistic. With male voice changes, you kind of have to talk a bunch to adjust over time. However, since this is purgatory and they get to be seen how they wanted to be, I think it’s interesting that Ricky would imagine himself with this deep, baritone voice with a stronger presence than the tenor counterpart.
I think both versions of sheet music should be available for licensing, and it would generally be very convenient for directors who may not have as many baritones as they’d like! Tenors tend to be more plentiful in musical theater environments from what I’ve observed. Both versions work very well and I think both should be included because they are both very true to the character and bring in different creative opportunities.
