Xennial. Queer. they/she/he. Writer, artist, zinester. I don't feel the need to explain my art to you, Warren.

I have gotten like 40+ new followers in the past month, and I just finally went through and checked them all out. Around 85% of them appear to be bots. (Or if they’re real people they’re exhibiting bot-like behavior so I blocked them too.)

a rule is to break

I said to someone, recently, that I no longer write poems about politics or sex. Oh, sure, I mention political topics or sex in poems, but that is different than having the poems be ABOUT those things. I said that, and then… 90% of the poems I have written in the past few weeks are either overtly political or explicitly sexual. Oops.

I wrote the above six months ago, and it’s even more true now.

It’s true now, too. Still, or again. Oh, and speaking of poetry…to the people who sent me prompts or questions or what have you for my birthday, I have been working on those poems. I know my birthday was two weeks ago, but life has been lifing so I haven’t gotten a chance to finish or post ‘em yet,

No matter what a post on tumblr tries to tell you, your moral and ethical stances will never be determined by what you reblog and what you scroll past. Don’t let manipulation tactics force you into doing anything you don’t want to do.

I find it very interesting to note the times in which this post has a sudden resurgence. It often follows very stressful, upsetting events, where a lot of “REBLOG THIS OR YOU SUCK” posts start appearing on this site.

So I’ll say it again: it is okay if you come to tumblr to escape upsetting news. It is okay if you’re just here for fun and fandom. It is okay if you do not want to use your tumblr as a place to read about or spread the current events that are circulating. It is okay if you need a place to decompress and just relax. There are other ways to be involved in/support causes and you are allowed to set boundaries on social media platforms without it being indicative of your belief systems.

Your beliefs, values, ethics, and moral stances are not determined by whether or not you reblog something.

I will almost always skip any “rb if you hate transphobia! rb if you hate ableism! I can see who skips!” because it’s dumb. it makes me uncomfortable. me not reblogging a random Tumblr post doesn’t determine my stance on societal issues

As we speak of Renee Nicole Good, let’s remember Silverio Villegas González who was also shot and killed by ICE agents while in his vehicle, then ICE made claims that differed from video evidence. Let’s remember Marimar Martinez who survived after being shot at by ICE five times, but then had to fight against felony charges that were based on claims that differed from video evidence. Let’s remember Jaime Alanis, Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez and Josué Castro Rivera who all died as a result of ICE raids.

Let’s remember everyone that we know of who died in ICE custody due to neglect and “undetermined causes” in this past year alone. Again, these are the deaths that we know of:

Genry Ruiz Guillén, Serawit Gezahegn Dejene, Maksym Chernyak, Juan Alexis Tineo-Martinez, Brayan Garzón-Rayo, Nhon Ngoc Nguyen, Marie Ange Blaise, Abelardo Avellaneda, Jesus Molina-Veya, Johnny Noviello, Isidro Pérez, Tien Xuan Phan, Chaofeng Ge, Lorenzo Antonio Batrez Vargas, Oscar Rascon Duarte, Santos Banegas Reyes, Ismael Ayala-Uribe, Norlan Guzman-Fuentes, Miguel Ángel García Medina, Huabing Xie, Leo Cruz-Silva, Hasan Ali Moh’D Saleh, Gabriel Garcia Aviles, Kai Yin Wong, Francisco Gaspar-Andrés, Pete Sumalo Montejo, Shiraz Fatehali Sachwani, Jean Wilson Brutus, Fouad Saeed Abdulkadir, Delvin Francisco Rodriguez and Nenko Stanev Gantchev.

You can read their stories here:

She was a mother of a 6yo child whose father passed away in 2023. Renee was remarried to a woman - so, to put it bluntly, not only has a child been orphaned by both biological parents, but the possible ramifications of a same-sex stepparent keeping custody amidst all the scrutiny and awful, virulent rhetoric to come makes me nauseous just to think about. Not only will Renee's wife and child need support for therapy and other immediate financial impacts of such a traumatic loss, an ample legal fund may be needed as well. I hope I'm wrong. But in case I'm not, please consider giving as and how you're able.

not a fan of the idea that white supremacists or american nationalists will be swayed against ICE by renee good’s murder cuz she was a white woman. i don’t know why leftists and liberals think white supremacists generally care about the wellbeing of white women lol. white women are either viewed as cattle to be herded, property, tolerable only when they uphold white male supremacists and their own relative subjugation, or an accelerant of social decay for opposing white male supremacy. this will change nothing for that group.

she has been firmly placed into the “social decay” category in less than 24 hours

Laura Loomer needs to die

the nearest depiction of an animal or other sentient fantasy creature to you at this moment comes to life right where it is (i.e. cat photograph, shark plushie, dragon painting, etc)

assume it doesn’t know you (unless it’s actually a specific animal you’ve met) and that it’s normal for its species and would do whatever was natural for it. including being too giant for and destroying the room it’s in. as well as dying immediately if its environment can’t support its life

I’ve been wanting to say something about this since I first heard about it, but I’ve just been reading everyone else’s takes. People have mostly already said everything I was thinking, but I’ll just add a few comments:

1 - I’m so tired of the idea that if one criticizes T Swift, that means they’re a misogynist, and the fact that Maggie Nelson seems to agree with that line of thought is gross to me. Especially because a whole section of her book On Freedom is about the climate crisis and how much of it billionaires are responsible for, and then she’s here defending a fucking billionaire with a private jet… Not a good look.

2 - One really could write an interesting article/essay about how women and queer people who write largely from their own lives are often denigrated in a way cishet men aren’t. One could even draw comparisons between female singer-songwriters and Sylvia Plath. I just don’t think T Swift is the right example there. As the writer says in this review of The Slicks: There are brilliant, prolific woman musicians who write deeply personal work who could only dream of achieving the kind of wealth and fame that Swift has managed to accrue in her relatively short life: Bjork, Courtney Love, Esperanza Spalding, Joni Mitchell—and all of these women’s work, despite their personal nature, despite their profuseness, have been critically acclaimed.

3 - Also, jfc Maggie, The Slicks is NOT A ZINE. Honestly if you’d written and self-published it as a zine I wouldn’t be so pissed. I’d still think it was pretty ridiculous, but it wouldn’t seem so money-grubbing.

4 - The most succinctly devastating review I’ve read comes from StoryGraph:

Tumblr Code.

If I ever see any of you in public, the code is “I like your shoelaces”

that way we know we’re from tumblr without revealing anything

I’m just going to say this to strangers until i find a tumblr person

must keep reblogering!! Im going to be so suspicious if any one tells me this now!

Remember the answer is: I stole them from the president.

always reblog tumblr identification

Said “I like your shoelaces” once to someone because I genuinely liked her shoelaces. She looked at me with horror and responded “Thanks, I stole them from the President.”

I was like “No, no, I actually like them, not the Reddit thi - I mean, I have no idea what you’re talking about” and we laughed. It was nice.
