Coming soon for the @destielaureversebb: “I see you, cowboy”

Author: GhoulsnHalos Artist: @wellwatersurprise

Rating: Teen and Up Archive warnings: None Length:  28,000 words Tags:  Space Opera AU; Apocalyptic background; Slow Burn; Space Cowboy Dean; Detective Castiel Relationships: Dean/Castiel

Summary:

Commander Castiel Novak can’t make Dean Winchester, a man who moves through the galaxy like he’s serving penance to an invisible god, fit any criminal box. Investigating Dean uncovers corruption within the Coalition Police Corps.

Dean believes family comes first. Whatever it takes, even collecting ancient artifacts for Crowley, he’ll do it. He doesn’t get miracles.

The problem? The artifacts could trigger an apocalypse and Crowley isn’t the only one hunting them. Dean’s unwittingly caught in the crossfire; Castiel is as entangled too.

Does Castiel choose duty or truth? Does Dean allow himself to be saved, or become the saviour?

Excerpt:

“The floor is yours, Mr. Winchester. Tell us everything in your own words and at your pace. No-one will question you until you’ve finished.”

“My name is Dean Winchester. I'm an Aquarius. I enjoy sunsets, long walks on the holodeck, and frisky people of all genders.” Dean’s expression changes. A serious, yet definitely not regretful expression replaces the brash attitude. Dean holds Uriel’s gaze, staring straight at him and not the camera.

The twisting in Castiel’s gut returns full force. Something is off. He can see no evidence Uriel has forced Dean into this confession. So what is wrong with the picture? He needs to get his hands on all the relevant files. Or maybe he ought to hear Dean out, in case Castiel’s suspicion of Uriel is clouding his judgement.

“I’m a salvage specialist. Looking for parts I can legally retrieve for my Uncle’s business. You tell me those vintage parts were someone else’s property, I’ll give ‘em back. Scout’s honour. No harm no foul, right. I bet Bobby would even spring a few credits for restitution. But I don’t know nothing about no Knights. Never heard the name Azazel Douchebag or whatever it was you...” Dean jerks his head towards Uriel with a scowl. “...said he was called.”

Dean sits as far back as the chair will allow, folding his hands together on the table. The little tug at the corner of his mouth suggesting a challenge to Uriel to prove otherwise.

It’s all a performance. Bluster designed to make people think he’s the carefree, space cowboy when Castiel saw the momentary softening in his expression when he mentioned Bobby. The man means something to Dean—more than the mere title uncle would suggest; Castiel would bet on it, if he ever indulged in such a thing.

Coming soon for the @destielaureversebb: “Ever just the same, ever a surprise”

Author: Marysse / @bardsingingasong Artist: @theloversthings

Rating: Teen and Up Archive warnings: None Length: 35,000 words Tags:  Fairy tale AU; Curse broken by Love; Angst with a happy end; First kiss Relationships: Dean/Castiel

Summary:

According to legend, there is a cursed prince deep inside the woods. But that was nonsense. It was just a tale used to scare anyone who wanted to go into the woods.

Neither Dean nor Sam thought it was true, but when people started going missing in the woods, they had to investigate.

When they found an old, ruined castle, Sam and Dean's last thought was that they were facing a real legend. Things took a turn for the worse when the Beast captured Dean.

Now, the brothers must find a way to break the curse and free Dean.

Excerpt:

"So what are we dealing with?" Dean asked.

‘Fairies? Ghosts?’

Bobby looked at the book thoughtfully. From where they stood, the brothers couldn't see it clearly, but it appeared that one of the pages was illustrated. The illustration was reminiscent of a church stained-glass window, with its vibrant colours. In the window, a young man with dark hair stood with his back to them. What was most striking, however, were the black wings growing from his back.

“Maybe a beast,” Bobby murmured.

Dean turned to look at Sam. His younger brother was looking at him with the same surprised expression. Both brothers had, of course, heard the legend of the forest beast, but had never considered that there might be any truth to it.

“Wait a minute,” Dean said, his voice amused. “You’re not sending us after the legendary prince who became a beast for being an asshole, are you?”

One look from Bobby told Dean that, yes, he was indeed sending them after the legendary beast. Dean opened his mouth to protest, but his stepfather's frown made it clear that he wasn't going to take no for an answer. The young man shrugged, looking offended, and quickly looked to Sam for help.

"But Bobby, we've been in this village for years, and the legend has never been proven true. We can look into it if you want, but I don't think there's anything useful in that story."

"That's exactly what I want you to find out," the man confirmed

Rating: Teen and Up Archive warnings: None Length: 19,000 words Tags:  trans dean winchester, post-op recovery, hurt/comfort, happy ending, domestic destiel Relationships: Dean/Castiel

Summary:

After a fallout with his situationship, Dean Winchester finds himself literally out on the streets. When he ends up in the home of his best friend to finish recovering from surgery, Dean struggles to keep his romantic feelings a secret.

Castiel would do anything for Dean, so when he plucks him off the street, it’s not a question that he’ll help Dean recover. He’s just got to work around the fact that he’s madly in love with Dean, with no hope of his feelings being requited.

Excerpt:

As Cas pushes the door open, Dean can’t even bother to lift his head. He’d stepped into the bathtub to prevent his sopping wet clothes from dripping on the floor any further. Getting his pants off was no picnic, but eventually they’d slapped wetly onto the bottom of the tub. His damp flannel had come off, but his t-shirt had proved to be a worthy foe, fighting him as he tried to take it off without lifting his arms too high. Frustrated and defeated, Dean sat down in the tub, pressing his face into his knees.

From this vantage point, Dean looks like a frightened animal to Castiel, curled in on himself, protecting his soft underbelly. He’s completely bedraggled, his hair thoroughly soaked, rivulets tracing from it down his shins. He doesn’t look up, heightening Castiel’s worry. He moves carefully so as not to spook the man. “Dean?” he calls softly, shutting the door behind him so that they’re cocooned in the small room, just the two of them with no outside world intruding.

Coming soon for the @destielaureversebb: “A Permanent Mark”

Rating: Explicit Archive warnings: None Length:  25,000 words Tags:  Alternate Universe-Science Fiction, Meet-Cute, Angst, Betrayal, Castiel and Dean Winchester Have a Profound Bond Relationships: Dean/Castiel

Summary:

Castiel is a highly efficient member of the AIPD. He's in a new city with a new and improved vessel, but everything goes sideways when he meets Dean. For the first time, he feels. Affection, confusion, anger, love. It's the sort of emotional dysregulation that could lead to an AI being reprogrammed.

Dean is responsible for his baby brother who's still sick with grief, but he can't help but want Castiel. As selfish as it might be, he starts to wonder if he can have one thing just for himself.

But when secrets are revealed, can they overcome betrayal and circumstances out of their control in order to be together?

Excerpt:

The man smiled an objectively imperfect smile: lopsided with slightly stained human teeth. He would look better with a set of pearly veneers, and it wouldn't hurt for him to practice his smile in the mirror, as Castiel was informed humans tended to do. But somehow, it suited him anyway.

"Whatcha looking for?" The man rounded the counter. Pinned to the front of his ratty flannel was an antique name tag with Dean inscribed on it in black ink.

"My balcony," Castiel blurted. His skin was hot like he'd been standing in the sun, even though downtown was filled with towering buildings that cast cooling shadow across the sidewalks. Though his vessel's resting heart rate was 57 bpm and had been steady at that rate on his route to the shop, it had risen rapidly to 65 bpm.

His vessel was malfunctioning. Some sort of late-onset rejection. He had been trained on this—delirium, disconnect between body and mind, fever—but his training hadn't covered rejections that happened after 3 weeks and 4 days in a vessel.

"You're looking for a balcony?" Dean asked. He was still smiling. He'd tucked part of his lower lip between his uneven teeth, and his eyes were… Very green. With golden flecks near the pupils. And they were…

Castiel had to remind his vessel how to breathe. Once he left this place, he would return to the precinct and explain that his vessel was rejecting him. It was unfortunate, considering how well things had been going until now.

When Dean raised his eyebrows, his question finally processed, and Castiel stammered, "What? No, of course not. That would be ridiculous."

He forced his eyes away from Dean and to the plants that lined the back wall. His lungs began working properly again.

Coming soon for the @destielaureversebb: “Duties & Dreams”

Rating: Explicit Archive warnings: None Length: 50,000 words Tags:  historical fantasy AU; platonic lavender marriage due to period typical homophobia; kid fic/parent Cas; dom/sub undertones; wingfic Relationships: Dean/Castiel, Charlie Bradbury/Anna Milton; Sam Winchester/Eileen Leahy

Summary:

Dean Winchester's life has been planned for him since before his birth. As the heir to his father's estate, his dreams are immaterial and, frankly, dangerous. He has long accepted that he will need to put his duties above all else.

While attending to one of those duties, Dean stumbles into a dream-like world and meets Castiel, a beautiful fae lord who has never once denied himself an indulgence. Cas samples desires like a dessert buffet, and Dean is terrified of how much he wants to taste.

Excerpt:

"What are you?" The sound of the mortal's voice startles him. He'd momentarily forgotten he was there.

Castiel turns to him, confused by the question. "I am Castiel."

"That's your name. But what are you? You're not human. Are you… are you an angel?"

"I am Fae, of course. Cannot you tell?" It's not as if Castiel's hidden his ears. Or his wings, for that matter.

"Fae. Like a… you're a fairy. You're a fairy and this is… I'm in. This is Faerie. I must have had an apoplexy. The rabbit and the tree. Hawthorn trees at Maytide. Down the hole. Into Faerie. Must have hit my head. Utterly dicked in the nob. Fit for Bedlam."

The mortal paces in circles, muttering to himself. Castiel leans against a tree, watching him with amusement. Mortals are fascinating. He can only understand a portion of what he says. The mortal stops, trailing off as he stares at Castiel, studying him.

His eyes trace Castiel's chest, his wings, his legs. Castiel is not unfamiliar with desire, but there is something about this man openly desiring him that satisfies something deep within him. When the mortal's eyes rise to Castiel's face and see that Castiel is watching him look him over, his blush returns.

Castiel's answering smile may be just this side of predatory. "What is your name?"

The mortal bends slightly at the waist. "Dean Winchester of Lawrence Park in Hampshire."

Castiel pushes off the tree he was leaning on and approaches. "Well, Dean Winchester of Lawrence Park in Hampshire, what brings you to Eden?"

"I- there was a rabbit."

"And the rabbit brought you here, did he? Did you catch his name?"
