I just finished a big weaving project for my first official art show! The theme is local natural dyes, and all the colors of this piece come from flowers that can thrive up here in a northern climate.

Technically, itโ€™s a painted warp with corresponding dyed weft that follows the curves of how the dye concentrate was applied, plus some black borders. Everything is linked together with clasped weft, which sometimes required up to 6 shuttles. Itโ€™s about 8-9 feet long and almost 3 ft wide. Dye plants used were marigold, bachelorโ€™s buttons, cosmos, and coreopsis, with an alum mordant.

Very proud of this thing! I normally focus on weaving practical objects, so trying to come at it from an art-mindset was challenging.

the problem with used books is that they are, individually, very cheap, so buying many of them feels affordable. but the math maths even when you aren't looking.

The sooner you start, the sooner you'll be done with it and the sooner you can stop thinking about it. Go on, up you get, it won't be as bad as you think.

You won't want to do it later either. You might as well just do it now. Even if you don't finish it all, anything you manage to get done now is something you don't have to do later (when you still won't want to do it)

When you point out to people who are against animal testing that there are potentially lifesaving medications that need to be tested on mammals before going to trials that could potentially harm human lives, theyโ€™ll say shit like โ€œWe should test on prisoners instead.โ€ Bitch. Why are you working for PETA? The WW2-era Imperial Japanese Army needs you. There is suchhhhhhh a strong thread of fascism laced through the current animal rights movement and in so many animal rights spaces and theyโ€™re extremely transparent about it.

a lot of people treat drug addicts, gamblers and people with eating disorders like vectors of a contagious disease and think that is activism

getting older is all about getting weirder and sexier and more perverted and gluttonous and intelligent and blunt and eloquent and spontaneous and skilled. i love that for us.
