Hello and welcome! I'm Sparky Lurkdragon.

This about page is intended to be more of a Before You Follow than a Do Not Interact. If I don't want you around, I will block you. This information is intended to help you make a decision that works for you personally. I will add to it as need be.

Hate it when TikTok farm cosplayers and cottagecore types say stuff like "I'm not going to use modern equipment because my grandmothers could make do without it." Ma'am, your great grandma had eleven children. She would have killed for a slow cooker and a stick blender.

I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have historically been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.

Taking these screenshots from Facebook because they make you log in and won't let you copy and paste:

People who say "species dysphoria isn't real/is making a mockery of trans people" are crazy to me bc like. You DO realize that dysphoria isnt exclusively tied to gender right. You can be dysphoric about so many things.

It's a feeling of discomfort that tends to particularly be about one's self image. Of course there's gonna be individuals out there uncomfortable with the human body. I'm confident there's people who feel that way even outside of nonhuman/alterhuman spaces.

Like I'm flat fucking sick of people acting like they're taking a brave bold stance as the holder of the forbidden information and enlightening us all with their secret knowledge by coming into a conversation to drop "actually........ America? Has did a bad." as if nobody else in the entire fucking country has ever taken a history class in their goddamn life

No shit, Sherlock. What are you going to fucking do about it? Nothing? You're going to do nothing, right? Don't lie to me.

Well yeah, their position is America is bad, so it's always bad. Let's just ignore the many many people who have tried and in some cases, had various degrees of success to actually hold America to the ideals it was founded on. And if we acknowledge them, then they're actually bad too because they aren't helping destroy it.

That's the position-smug suicidal defeatism.

and it comes from such an intense and immense place of privilege because the people who do it can afford to fucking wallow in their smug defeatism while other people do the work for them and i'm sick of it

Well yeah-these people don't actually care about other people. Their personality and view of the world is wrapped around America being the worst of the worst and that it must be destroyed. Forget anything like fighting for rights (said by people who either never had to worry about it or take rights that people fought for them to have for granted) or attempting to rein in the more disastrous aspects of America on the world stage; nah, best to do nothing and keep racking up the atrocities because those people affected don't matter except as for fuel to prove how America is so bad it should be destroyed. Because the people in America don't actually count as people. People outside America don't count as people either.

If these people fucking cared, they'd be all over USAID being cut, but they're not, they're happy people are dying because even when America does actual good, its STILL bad and those people helped should die for their sin of accepting aid from The Worst Country To Ever Exist.

Oh and don't forget, they have zero problem helping fascists into power, while sneering about how evil those liberals are and how those liberals would be the ones to help fascists.

These people do not care about other people outside of wanting to punish and it's high time we call them on their shit.

what is the point of oscar the grouch on sesame street?

It’s okay to not like things and it’s okay to be unhappy. He was created from the idea that “non-destructive deviance” would go over well with kids.

THANK YOU!

Basically, the point of Oscar the Grouch is so that kids know it’s okay to have fucking emotions and moods that aren’t all cheery. That’s the fucking point. And that’s even more important to the kids who are living in harsh realities. Realities where their families are falling apart or they’re not getting food every day or they’re getting abused. Telling them it’s okay to express that they are NOT HAPPY because they are HURTING is so fucking important I cannot even say it.

Big Bird is nice, but goddamn, when you’re a kid who’s hungry and you just got beat by your caretaker and all you wanna do is hole up somewhere and tell everyone else to go away because you don’t even have words for how bad things feel? Big Bird is not your dude. Cheery happy, “well, let’s play a happy game!” Big Bird ain’t cutting it for you. Oscar the Grouch is your dude. Oscar the Grouch is the dude who tells you it’s okay to put the lid on your garbage can and be alone and be upset.

Big Bird tries to talk you out of being upset (and maybe sometimes that’s okay). But Oscar the Grouch teaches you that, no, it’s okay to be upset and you have every right to stay upset and grouchy and unhappy until you’re at a point where that can change. Oscar the Grouch teaches you that you have a right to your emotions, whatever they are.

On a more advanced level, the point of Oscar is to start teaching kids that it’s okay to have boundaries, it’s okay to want to just go into your trash can (home/safe place) and not be bothered, it’s okay to defend those boundaries and say “go away!” when you want people to go the fuck away and that you can still have a place on Sesame Street. That not everyone has to be shiny, happy Big Bird.

That’s the point of Oscar the Grouch.

“what is the point of oscar the grouch” who even made you

Also Oscar the Grouch *likes* things that no one else likes and he’s completely unapologetic about it.

The fact that people tell you things you like are stupid doesn’t make it’s true. He loves trash. He loves it because it’s trash. That’s important too.

As is the fact that *even though everyone thinks his interests are stupid*, people don’t take his trash away and they don’t drag him out of his can.

Also he has *fantastic* body language. Boundary laden but also very emotional. And just the way he likes stuff and expresses interest…

…Oscar the Grouch = awesome.

This is a wonderful series of texts post that needs to be shared with all of you

idk who needs to hear this, but low engagement does not mean your writing is bad.

engagement doesn’t solely depend on the quality of the work. whilst it can play a role, other things such as fandom, ship, tags, tropes and posting at the right time of the day/week play a SIGNIFICANT role.

so keep writing what you love. keep writing what makes your heart happy. your work is amazing. the fact that you’re even putting words out there is amazing.

do not let numbers define you or your work.
