GUYS! I HAD A REALLY FUNNY AU THOUGHT!
Basically, Gwi-ma makes a deal with a really lonely Zoey only to realize he duped himself into a deal he can't back out of.
For more details:
It starts off with Zoey visiting Seoul with her family on a trip or something, her parents argue during the entire duration which leads Zoey to feeling lonelier than lonely. She has no friends because kids think she's weird, her parents argue all the time, and no one truly understands her.
Enter Gwi-ma! He sees a vulnerable child that he can easily trick into making a deal with and take her soul, so enters her mind all overconfident and cocky. Zoey however, was extremely specific with what she wanted and kind of beat him at his own game and ended up making an extremely stupid deal on his part. It goes a bit like this!
All alone little girl?
Zoey: *Sniffle* Yeah...who are you?
Someone who can help with your loneliness
Zoey: Really? You'll make it so I'm not lonely? Ever?
Yes
Zoey: You can help me feel better about myself and stop the mean people from bullying me?
Most definitely
Zoey(energetically): You'll be my friend no matter what! Be by my side through thick and thin! Bestest friends forever and ever!
Uhh...Sure, whatever you say
Zoey: OKAY!
Alright, it's a deal
This deal had a long time effect on both of them.
Zoey made a deal that would inevitably lead to her becoming a demon, but Gwi-ma faces a LOT of struggle as well.
1. This deal makes it near impossible for him to get into her head, since (in her own words) that's not what best friends do.
2. He can hear Zoey's little voice go off in HIS mind and vice versa and he knows when she is in need of help
And 3. Not only that, but if he DOESN'T help, his flames starts to dim because he'd be breaking his own deal of being her friend forever.
He is essentially SOUL BOUND. This leads to him ACTUALLY needing to care otherwise things will go south for him. Much to his dismay and much to Zoey's appeal.
The relationship start
Their friendship starts off really rocky, with Gwi-ma hugging and puffing every time Zoey wanted to spend time with him or asked for help, but after a while they actually bond rather well. (Their relationship becomes nearly parental on Gwi-ma's part.)
But things get a little complicated when Zoey becomes a hunter. Zoey finds out about who Gwi-ma is, but can't bring herself to hurt him since the big pile of flames was and still is her best friend and Gwi-ma finds it hard to see, since he actually cares now. (He also judges Zoey's taste in women, especially knowing Rumi's secret.)
This sets up conflict as it could end with Gwi-ma being fully cut off and Zoey being heartbroken with the absence of her first friend, Zoey betraying the hunters in order to preserve that friendship, Zoey giving into the patterns that were consuming her a lot slower because of her relationship with Gwi-ma, or Gwi-ma saving her the choice and ending their deal know that it would hurt him and that she has other people in her life now.
