Kind of fucked thinking about the fact that there is one single American legally authorized to research the critically endangered pygmy raccoon in Mexico and it is, in fact, the same person who did Dashcon.

This person is also this person

And is currently the only person from the United States legally permitted to research the critically endangered pygmy raccoons (Procyon pygmaeus) in Cozumel, Mexico.

For reference, this is me, BTW! I was 15 when I started Dashcon and 17 when it actually happens, and now study tourism’s impact on the critically endangered pygmy raccoon. I’ve been researching them before now, but due to Mexico’s laws, I’ve only been allowed to do data collection from abroad (so think surveys to tourists and video analysis on social media.) But now I’m authorized for in situ research!! Yippee! I even got a grant through my university as well to fund the whole project 🥺

This is the reason this hellsite is truly a homesite. We grow here. You can go back and see how it happened. I was a Bachelor’s student when I started my tumblr. Now I’m an Associate Professor and Curator, with my own lab and Denmark’s national collection of 70,000ish reptile and amphibian specimens in my care.

Wait aren’t you the one who has to do studies in a swimsuit cuz otherwise the tourists wont talk to you? I saw that on tiktok today are you telling me ur also the one who started dashcon??? Man it keeps getting better-

Yeah dats me

Still haven't found a home for these two. Only interest at work was someone wanting some barn cats and fuck that.

Anyone in California want a pair of entertainingly rambunctious chaos gremlins? They're getting more social as lots of people at work are holding them now, but they still mostly spend time with each other.

You know technology literacy is dying because I saw this meme with 76k likes

F11 the full screen button? You’re scared of the full screen button? F10?? It opens the menu bar???

Computers are so scary what if I accidentally hit F12 in a steam game and it takes a screenshot. What if I press shift + F12 while in word and accidentally save my document 😖

If you had to learn what the F keys on your computer do through me reblogging this post, then I'm glad you did. Computer literacy is not a skill that gets taught anymore, and it is absolutely one that needs to be taught in order to be learned. Don't ever feel bad for not knowing something, but ☝️ don't ever stop learning learning about your environment, the tools you use, and especially the people around you

Never stop learning+ Never stop sharing what you learned

My apologies, this one is a lot of words, but I thought it was important to outline all of these. My goal is to do deeper dives into each in upcoming strips. You can support my work (and upcoming work trip to Greenland) by getting me a coffee !

it's hard posting on here, because people tend to skim over your sentences and reply to what they thought you said based on how attacked they felt by the 2-3 words they recognized, and then other people will reblog that version and say "hey this second person actually has a point", and meanwhile you're just crouched in front of your computer gripping your own head with blood coming out of your ears and nose and mouth and anus

"crime" for conservatives is basically just existing in public as a person of color

always thinking about that Oxford study that found half of adults define "young people hanging around in groups" as "anti-social behaviour"

>"anti-social behaviour"

>looks inside

>socialising

its actually crazy how much local art events and other potentially interesting stuff i completely miss out on just because the orgs all post on instagram and facebook only. two standouts among the worst fucking platforms in the world with the most egregious ui and slop saturation, so dogshit that id be unable to use them regularly even if i wanted to. stop it you all. get on tumblr or something

even orgs and collectives that used to have proper websites of their own now just put all their updates on fb and ig. stop! stop it! youre making me feel like an old geezer! ok well old geezers nowadays are very much on facebook... an ancient geezer. youre making me feel like A Ancient Woman

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head.

Sometimes I wonder how many of the 90 thousand people who have interacted with this post have been like “I think I’ll go to OP’s blog and see what other lovely nuggets of wisdom they have” and then get hit with a wall of nothing but homoerotic drawings of the men from the Yakuza franchise.

[Image description:

Panel 1:

A frustrated artist with a big colorful thought bubble labeled INFINITE POTENTIAL over their head and a pencil in one hand hunches over a blank sheet of paper and asks, "How do I pack this down into sometime I can actually share?"

Panel 2:

The artist looks at a small grey box in their hands and asks incredulously, "All that work for THIS?!" Brow furrowed, they shove it off on a second person. "Here you go, I made this, it sucks."

Panel 3:

The recipient peeks into the small grey box and colorful light pours out onto them. Holding the open box, they look around in awe, surrounded by the colors of infinite potential the artist had originally imagined.]

The middle person is the one who drew all the homoerotic yakuza art

person who assumes maleness as default and refuses to interrogate this: yeah this character has no gender, they're just a little Guy

today in defenses of boromir that no one asked for: tired of reading that boromir’s death was in vain because he failed to save merry & pippin from the uruk-hai.  the fact that this clearly important warrior was willing to die to protect those two is what convinced the urukhai that they had indeed captured the halfing who carried whatever important thing saruman wanted.  they took the hobbits to isengard (to isengard gard) because they thought they had the right ones!  boromir didn’t succeed in preventing their capture but he did in fact keep them alive by making them seem valuable.  furthermore, he actually also saves frodo in this way: because the orcs and uruk-hai think they have what they came for, they stop looking and turn back: if they had not, they might have ultimately found and captured frodo or at least raised the alarm that a hobbit with an Important Thing was on the loose, setting others searching.  which is the very heart of tolkien’s worldview - that you do the right thing because it is right, and doing the right thing is never in vain.

to conclude this essay boromir died a hero and saved not just merry and pippin but also frodo and sam.

some excellent additions in the tags here @erynalasse & @manta-ray-parade

[ID: Tumblr tags that read ’“#thank you op #and also on a wider note #it bothers me that people say boromir’s death was in vain #as if utulity is the only axis we measure worth on #i’m sure tolkien would have disliked the implication #that honor and courage and a real effort to do better #especially after succumbing to temptation #somehow don’t matter #because they do!

#but also his willingness to sacrifice himself for the hobbits/fellowship shows the ring did not end up consuming him #his love for the hobbits saved him from the ring’. There are two pleading emojis at the end. End ID]
