I MADE A BABY PINEAPPLE!!!!

btw I've found these stretches from the WAK blog very helpful when knitting a lot:

Plus make sure to take breaks regularly - and stop if anything starts to hurt!

especially with gift knitting I know it can be tempting to push through it for a deadline, but it's really not worth causing long term injury. (And anyone knit-worthy should be understanding of that, imho.) Stay well :)

Wound up talking about Soul Music to my partner recently, and I described it as a story about grief and memory; Susan is grappling with the question of whether or not her grandfather (who is Capital-D Death, as it turns out) was responsible for her parents’ deaths, and winds up being dragged into her grandfather’s work because he’s too busy trying to get blind drunk and forget about what he’s done. Because despite himself, despite the fact he swears he can give up emotion whenever he wants, he’s fucking aching in sorrow and guilt for having to do what he did, because he had to do it, because they chose to live a mortal life.

And then I paused and said, “And the main plot is that a welsh guy invents rock and roll,” and I think that’s the discworld experience summed up

my corner store guy is a 50 year old man who's my best friend in the world and recently he was like "you're too pretty to be single I have some nephews you should meet. very handsome!" and I was like "a niece might be more up my alley" and he just got more excited and said "ah even better! I was overselling my nephews but my nieces are very beautiful"

OP the tags!!

My abortion was really one the most hated kind of abortion. I wasn't underage. I wasn't raped. I wasn't in medical need.

I got pregnant not through some fluke or 1 in a 100 contraceptive failure. I got pregnant because I was knowingly and willfully having unprotected sex. Out of wedlock too if that matters.

It was my own fault, I was being irresponsible because I knew I could always get an abortion if I got pregnant. My abortion was as close as it comes to 'using abortion as a contraceptive' as anti-choicers love to say.

I didn't abort it because my health was in danger or because I didn't have the ability to care for it or whatever else. I did it purely because I didn't want a child. I wanted sex and I didn't want to deal with any consequences from it.

There's no moral here. I don't feel bad about it whatsoever. I suffered no karmic consequences or punishment from god. My life is amazing. I want to rub this in the face of every conservative and anti-choicer. I did the terrible thing. I had an abortion for the most selfish of reasons and literally nothing happened. Suck it.

I told the wizard I wasn't meant for this time. I was meant to languish in a wheel chair in the sun in the Victorian era.

He stroked his beard and having lived through that time said: "Many cases of tuberculosis and typhoid. Not much hand washing."

I don't like that he's right.

"Not a grand time for werebeasts either."

Dude shut up!

Those who seek wisdom should be prepared for what they find.

But how? The readiness to adapt to new knowledge is wisdom in and of itself, and its lack is tautological in that the premise is that those who seek it are wanting in it. We posit that attaining wisdom is transformative purely through the act of accepting it. It should be the ability to welcome harsh truths and not the power to recall them we measure.

Well, as the ancient warlock Git'Gud once said...

Wanna practice kissing?

Alas, my latest attempt at a potion of permanent oral hygiene has produced the logical yet useless solution of causing my mouth to disappear, and I have been unable to imbibe the prepared antidote.

I scrolled past this without second thought. Paused. Thought, wait, I've never seen a crane on the road. Scrolled back up. No answers. Typed this response, then noticed the book's author. What a whirlwind

Basically they bring it in piece by piece and assemble it on-site, using a smaller mobile crane (trucks with crane attachments) and once the crane itself is assembled, the top part can use hydraulics to climb up and down its own mast, so it builds itself taller like this

There is however no explanation for BJ Nomnom

Anonymous asked:

My dad has motion detectors with built-in cameras along his driveway, and there's a frog that has figured out that if it jumps in front of the detector, the infrared light that turns on will attract bugs. So my dad frequently gets a bunch of pictures of the frog jumping around, and he's really fond of the frog now. He refers to it as his frog, enjoys getting pictures of it, and is always super, super careful in the driveway to check for the frog to make sure it's safe.

Anon. Please listen to me. I would not tell you this if it was not very important to me. PLEASE get me a picture of this frog.

THE FROG!!!!!!!

Rewatching Truman Show for the first time in a long time, and the detail that’s stuck with me this time is the set design.

The characters drive modern cars and hock modern products, but it’s all presented with a veneer of 1950s wholesome applecheeked Americana. Truman’s life is presented as an escape for the audience from the drudgery of the modern day, and the aesthetic they’ve chosen for this is the post-war economic boom. This is the simple time, the movie says. This is the good time. Doesn’t the modern day suck? Let’s go back and see our friends from the days when life was good.

And it’s a lie. Truman’s life is a lie, and the image of white picket fenced suburbia they’ve presented is a lie. It’s an elaborate construction to recreate a false memory that’s comfortable for advertisers. The movie is a satire, but it’s also a very blatant statement against the nostalgia for a golden age which never existed. It’s a lie. It doesn’t exist.

I don’t know. I’m spitballing. I’m biased because I despise mid-20th century Americana and I naturally treat it with hostility, but it’s very gratifying to see a movie kind of agree with me.

Let me tell you a story.

Earlier in the summer, I went to Florida with my friend. We decided to visit a town nearish to where we were staying called Seaside, as we had heard it was a cute place. What I did not know at the time was that Seaside is the place where they filmed The Truman Show. It was a "master-planned community," constructed in the 80s to be the perfect beach town.

Seaside, FL

Seahaven

And yes, it really does look Like That. Not just in their tourist-agency photos, in real life it looks like that. Arguably the irl Seaside is even prettier than movie Seahaven, because the the office buildings where Truman works don't exist; the town is 100% cutesy homes and little shops.

so you’re telling me one of the characters in wake up dead man is a formerly beloved author who, after the culmination of his wildly popular fiction series, has been radicalized online by right-wing conspiracy theorists, has abandoned his successful writing career in favor of spending all of his time on social media (and what little writing he does put out on his substack is praised only by his staunchest supporters), and is SO convinced that everyone’s out to get him that he’s dug a literal moat around his (distinctly castle-shaped) house?

lol. lmao, even.

felt so validated as a trans guy with that one. like okay other people hate her too. filmmakers dont like her. rian johnson i would hug you if i could

“So this fic has been abandoned but you should read it anyways because…” hold up. Have you not been reading all promising fics regardless of completion this entire time

Today I learned that some of yall are filtering fic by “completed works only” which is WILD to me because some of the best shit I ever read was incomplete. Just like how some of the best friendships fade, the best experiences end, the best partners pass away before you’re ready. Nobody wants good things to end but they do and that doesn’t make them less meaningful. And sometimes a tree must be nurtured before it can grow
