The Webcomic Library

A lover of webcomics who wants to share their passion with others! https://tagpacker.com/user/webcomic.library

Happy Pride Month, my good peeps! One of the big motivators early on in the Webcomic Library's creation was the fact that one of the biggest questions I regularly came across in my circles was where others could find stories that represented their identities. Being an aro/ace queer myself, I had found solace myself in finding comics with lgbt+ identities and being able to point people directly to a medium with such a vibrant queer presence brought me a feeling of purpose. The power of seeing a facet of who we are in the characters who inspire us and feel more comfortable being ourselves is something valuable that's worth sharing. When the Library of Congress picked up the Webcomic Library to archive the comics community due to its documentation of LGBT+ representation it only furthered my enthusiasm. Today I have over 30 tags dedicated to showcasing LGBT+ representation and over 1,500 series have canonical queer characters.

I hope to continue exploring stories with you all and I hope yall will find stories that speak to you today!

Happy Trans Visibility Day, my good peeps! One of the things I enjoy about The Webcomic Library database is how much I can spotlight all these different trans experiences. From the binary to the nonbinary; the real people sharing their lives to the fantasies that bring a sense of empowerment. Over the years we've managed to document over 650 series with trans representation and we always have the opportunity to do more! Since the Library's work is documented by the Library of Congress for it's coverage over LGBT+ stories in the medium I'm always looking to add new queer stories to share with you all and am always exited when new ones are submitted to the collection. I hope all of you feel loved and safe today with a story that brings you joy!

Hello, my good peeps! I wanted to give a little update to where I'm at with my work on the Webcomic Library. As many of you may already know, last year I had to step away for a while due to medical reasons. While my condition lot more stable now I still have a lot going on with doctors, treatments, and some major procedures to plan for.

Right now, however, I'm calling this the year of the "Get Luma to Touch Grass" initiative. I went to Ikkicon this Winter and got an offer to potentially panel with a comic creator. I met some lovely folks at the Bunt! signing who I'm hoping to meet up with as well. I also been seeking out opportunities to volunteer at my local libraries and learn more about the more formal side of things. Plus, at the beginning of the year I got onboarded to a special project I've been working on these past few months! It's still in the early stages so there's not much to share yet but if you already enjoy the work The Webcomic Library is doing I'm sure you're gonna love this!

Next month is going to be busy as well. I'll be going to Staple! in Austin on April 13th and 14th and in May I've finally got the clearance to go to TCAF in Toronto, Canada. I'm extremely exited to meet up with more comic friends locally and beyond!

All the while I've been playing catch up with the Webcomic Library database. Series by series I've been catching up my reading while updating tags, art, and other information while also working to add more new comics for yall to check out. I've even been getting a bit of help from folks submitting new series and helping to update previous entries.

There's still a long way to go but I'm so glad to find my stride again. I have so much to be grateful for and I'm glad that one of those things is that I get to keep sharing stories with you all. If any of you are interested in helping support this project and what I'm doing, I encouage you to check out my linktree. I have links for submitting and updating series, different places on social media I inhabit, and different ways to donate so we can keep exploring this community together. Thank yall for joining me here in my little pocket of the internet!

Hiya peeps! today marks the 7 year anniversary of the Webcomic Library. What started as a way for me to sort my collection of comics and recommend stories to friends has become something beyond anything I could have imagined. I look at what we've accomplished here and can't help but feel awe. It's hard to comprehend how much this project has changed my life. I've made so many friends, watched so many people I have come to admire grow, switched careers, made something that will be used for generations to come, and so much more.

As I've stated previously my journey over this past year regarding my health has been rough to put it mildly. While I hope the darkest part of it has passed I still am looking at countless doctors appointments, treatments and surgeries for my Ulcerative Colitis and other conditions in the next year(s) to come. This time last year I was just starting to try and get answers and fighting to stay out of the hospital due to the immense amount of pain I was in.

I've had to put so much on hold to make sure I could come back, including the Webcomic Library, and the fact I had to make that decision at all still breaks my heart. Despite all of that, I'm still proud to say that I'm still here. Granted, I'm not in any position to put in as much as I've been able to in the past, but I've begun picking up where I left off. I've started posting to Bluesky and been having a ball! I've also been slowly adding more comics to the database.

Most importantly, the step back has given me the opportunity to look and see where I wanna take this project. I've done a lot over the years and the central point of everything has always been the database. In the coming year I want to get back on top of my backlog of updates as well as adding new stories for yall to explore.

I'm starting with revamping my submission form to be a bit more user friendly in the hopes of documenting more than I can on my own. I'm always asking for help with this and now more than ever I need it. I'm also looking into working more closely with comic groups and publishers to expand my collection. When I get caught up with my backlog I'm hoping to work on adding and editing my tags.

It's been a long road and there's a further stretch ahead, but I'm far from done yet. Seeing how the Webcomic Library has helped people find stories that touch them, creators find inspiration and motivation, and just helped the broader community... it keeps me going. I'm so lucky to do what I do. Thanks for giving me that chance.

Hiya peeps! A little Webcomic Library lore for you: Before I started this project I was very much involved in the ace community. I realized I was on both the ace and aro spectrum around 2014 and quickly started trying to find community. I looked for stories, get involved in chatrooms, and gathered any and all ace resources I could. I got involved with theasexualityblog, whose creator is the originator of ace week! I help with coming up with ideas for events, moderating the chat room, consolidating resources with anyone wanting to learn more about the ace spectrum, and more.

In the chatroom, I was consistently asked by others about where to find stories with ace representation. I had learned about my sexuality around the same time I started getting into webcomics, so I naturally shared those with others. Eventually, people started asking for subjects beyond just ace content including other characters on the LGBT+ spectrum, disabled rep, various genres, etc. I made a whole google spreadsheet so I could just direct people to a single, consolidated space when the question came up. This spreadsheet is what the Webcomic Library is based on today.

I started the WCL of November 26th, 2016 as part of an effort to promote another ace based event: Ace Card Day. At the time I had 20 comics documented with canon ace spectrum representation. Today I'm proud to say there's now over 300!

I'm not as directly involved in the ace community these days but it's undeniable that this project wouldn't exist without the support of others who, like me, wanted to find stories that expressed that facet of our identities. Representation has power and I look forward to continuing to share those meaningful stories with you all!

Welcome to The Webcomic Library!

Of course, I do more outside of the database. I'm active on Tumblr, Twitter, and Bluesky boosting comics, sharing resources, and general comic ideas and news. I also currently have a discord for people in the community to meet (PM for an invite), I've run a virtual convention in the past, and collaborated with many platforms and collectives including Hiveworks, Webtoon, and Screentones. Thanks to the work I do here, my dayjob currently is at Tapas as a Content Moderator . The Webcomic Library is currently actively archived by the Library of Congress, including my Tumblr, as part of their efforts to document the broader comic community. To put simply: I get around!

Being a one person project I do a lot of legwork to maintain and expand my efforts. That being said, I could always use help and support to bring the Webcomic Library to heights I couldn't achieve on my own. You can help this project by:

I'm really proud of everything I've done with the Webcomic Library over the years. I love working to bring stories to others and support the creators that make them. The plans I have to continue bringing that passion to yall is exiting and I'm elated to share what I have in store. If you're interested, I'd love to have you join me in this journey!

Happy Asexual Awareness Week, my peeps! This time of year always makes me really nostalgic. I got my start really getting into webcomics around when I started being active in the ace community. I worked with The Asexuality Blog on consolidating resources, helping come up with ideas for community events (including this one), and moderating an ace chat room.

During that time I became the go-to person to refer folks to ace representation. It got to the point I started keeping a google spreadsheet of all the webcomics I found so I could more effectively share a full list. I would add categories as people would ask for specific types of rep with all of those tags still available today within our 300+ search options.

I even started the Webcomic Library on November 26th to align with Ace Card Day so I could celebrate by sharing a full collection of all of the 30 comics I had found with Asexual representation.

Now nearly 6 years later we have amassed over 300 comics with ace spectrum representation from all over the internet and so so much more. While I am not directly active in the ace community these days there is no denying that this project wouldn’t have been possible without their support. My journey of finding my identity and the people who relate to that experience has been something that has shaped who I am today. It has taught me so much of the power of representation and what is possible with a community of passionate people by your side. I hope you will consider exploring the stories I’ve collect over the years! I hope you find a character whose story speaks to you.

2000 Comics Catalogued

Tonight after over 5 years of work we have 2000 comics into the Webcomic Library. A lot has happened to get to this point and naturally this makes me a bit reflective and emotional to say the least.

When I decided to present my collection to the community I had 200 comics I regularly kept up with that I wanted to share. This time was also one of my lowest points. I held on tight to the things that I knew made me happy and couldn’t be taken away so easily. I found inspiration in the stories others told and wanted to share some of that spark with more people, even if it was just a little fanblog with its own little twist.

Since then the Webcomic Library has been my rock. Even in the darker moments I knew I had something to work on and look forward to. I’ve been able to learn, meet people who inspire me every day, and I’ve been able to read so many stories that get me exited to experience what the world has to offer. Knowing that others have found joy or will in the future thanks to the Library of Congress means more to me than you will ever know. I’ve gained so much more than I ever thought I would achieve in general and the idea that we still have an opportunity to do more excites me. I have so many more works I want to explore and projects I want to pursue through the Webcomic Library. I unbelievably lucky to have the chance to be part of so many folks stories. I hope you will consider continuing to be a part of mine. Thank you all for being a part of this journey with me!

Birthday and Some WCL Project News

Hiya peeps! My birthday has come around once again. So much has happened this past year and it feels like I’m finally getting back on track to where I want to go both in life and with the Webcomic Library. I’m grateful to still be here, sharing comics and this community with you all.

Now normally this is the point where I ask folks to consider looking at the library and sharing their favorite stories but this time I have a request regarding a new project under the WCL umbrella. You see, over the past few months there’s been a large wave on anti-LGBT+ legislation and reprimands happening across the US, including in my state of Texas. One of the things happening is a large movement pressuring librarians to ban various books regarding sexuality, race, LGBT+, and other topics of great importance.

With my work on the Library over the years being geared towards documenting the diversity shown in comics these events have gotten me both angry and inspired. I figured now was a good of time as any to begin actively cataloguing the stories that are currently or have been threatened with being banned for their content. right now I’m focusing on comics affected by the events in Texas but I hope to expand my range out more as I catalogue more content

To begin this project I have made a new tag in the Webcomic Library Database to make these works identifiable for others looking into these events and comics. I already had a few in the database under this category but I have already begun actively cataloguing new content for this tag. I have also made a list of the comics I’m looking to add as part of this project. Luckily I can find most of these comics at my library of choice, at least for now as district I live in has been participating in these bans. I have also made a list of these comics in the Library’s Bookshop and Amazon storefronts so people interested in supporting these creators can easily find this content. Unlike my normal storefront lists not all of these comics are in the WCL database yet but I wanted to have a full list available to others as soon as possible.

Now this project is a bit of an undertaking. Whenever I add new comic to the library I do my best to ensure the tags listed are as thorough and accurate as possible. Unless the entry is submitted, I’m usually actively reading the content myself to achieve this level of analysis. On top of that some of these entries are a bit harder to find because they are out of print.

If you’re interested in helping support the Webcomic Library in this project or in general, here’s a few ways you can:

1. Submit comics to the library! The library keeps up with so much content having someone who really cares and wants to share that story with others is a fantastic resource. You can submit comics to the library by emailing [email protected]. If you aren’t sure where to begin documenting a comic, there’s this nifty template that runs through everything the WCL keeps track of.

2. Show your support digitally! Reblog this post, look into following and rebloging from these amazing story tellers, spread the word! Making sure people know about these issues and supporting the people affected is such an important tool and the first step to making change.

3. Read some comics! Libraries are often big buyer of books from creators. You can buy comics yourself through the Amazon and bookshop links. If you go through these links a portion of the money you spend will also go to the WCL. So long as they haven’t been banned, you can also request these comics to read at your local library and give support both to your librarians and the comic creators in one go!

4. If you’re interested in helping support the WCL directly I also have a Ko-Fi. The money goes right back into buying more books to share through the library!

Sharing stories has always been near and dear to my heart. As someone who knows the power of seeing parts of yourself and your experience through another's eyes it’s heartbreaking to see people say those stories are inappropriate for the populace at large. I hope through my work with the library I can help amplify those voices and help people find the stories they’ve wanted in their lives. Thanks for listening!

5 Year Anniversary!

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of the Webcomic Library! It feels... odd. A lot has changed since I first started this project both on a physical level and a personal one. My circle of friends is different, I’ve changed jobs a few times, I’ve gone back to school with a plan of where I want to go in the future. So much has changed since then and yet I can’t help but feel like not much has changed at all.

Looking back on where I started, though, I can’t overlook how far I’ve come from when I first started the Library. I’ve met so many amazing people, done so many things, and have grown as a person because of what we’ve managed to create here. When I started the library I had a little google doc of 200 comics and now we have a formal database of over 1900 stories. We’ve built a community together, made a discord, got the library formally archived in the Library of Congress, did our own virtual con, and other amazing things that are beyond anything I could have hoped to achieve.

In starting this project I’ve just fallen more in love with the webcomic community. It amazes me how much love people can put into their characters and stories. The amount of work used to place their stories into the hands of potential readers that easily gets taken for granted especially as media gets faster and in some ways harder to navigate. These stories exist in so many cracks and crevices of the internet it can be hard to really get the full scope of how large this amazing group of creators are. I can only cover a drop in the ocean of what these people have accomplished

Some of you might have noticed I’ve been more MIA than usual the past few months. I don’t want to go into too much detail but there’s been a lot of things going on in my personal life that have been challenging to get through. It’s a variety of sources that have been growing increasingly hard to work through and the past few months have just gotten overwhelming. These circumstance have frustratingly affected WCL. I know what I’m dealing with now won’t last forever and have been working to change things for the better but this is going to take time. It will be a while longer until I can put out content like I normally do but I’m still working on what I can in the meanwhile. I have so many things I still want to do with the Webcomic Library and am so exited to keep working to show you all the amazing thing the webcomic community creates.

to wrap this up I just want to give a huge thank you to everyone whose supported the Webcomic Library over the years. From the comic creators who take the time to share their stories to the world, the readers looking to learn about what’s out there, the new folks looking for a starting point for how they could get involved in the webcomic community, and everyone in between. Yall are the people who keep this amazing medium going and evolving. I’m so exited to see where comics go next and I sincerely hope yall will continue joining in on this amazing journey!

The Webcomic Library Con 2021 has wrapped up! This was a first for this project and when my mods and I started this project we weren’t sure how many people would be interested in participating in an event like this, either as a watcher or as a panelist. We were blown away by the support we got from this idea! It means so much to have people from all over the community and the world come together to show what we can accomplish together.

Right now you can find the full streams of all the panels of Day 2 on twitch. After some editing and adding proper subtitles we’ll be housing these for free on Youtube as a way for you to relive the con and check it out if you didn’t get to experience it in real time.

We definitely want to have a Webcomic Library Con 2022. We already have so many ideas for new panels we could present and ways to make this experience bigger and better. We will be asking for feedback and ideas from the community soon so keep an eye out for that! We’re really exited to see where we can take this idea and make it something for everyone to enjoy!

Lastly I want to give a final shout out to everyone who helped make this convention come together. from the panelists to my moderators to the person who created the promotional art for this convention. It was such an honor to work with them and they all are worth checking out and supporting. This wouldn’t have been possible without them. I’ll have all of their links in the “Read more” section of this post.

Thank you all so much again and I look forward to showing you what we have in store next!

The next panel for the Webcomic Library Con is going on right now! Anabel, the creator of New Century Club, Eyre, the Creator of Pony Magic Fairy Girls, Artem Ficta, the creator of Ring Spell, and Gareth, an award-winning harpist and composer will be talking about the application of music in comics and what the two mediums of art can learn from one another. This is certainly going to be both a fun and informative stream so we hope you’ll stop on by!

Day 2 of the Webcomic Library Con has begun! We're starting off with a Lettering workshop hosted by Emma, the creator of Honestly Not a Robot, and Shiza ( @shizamura), the creator of O Sarilho. Lettering is an underappreciated aspect of comics so we’re gonna shed some light on how it can elevate an already amazing comic to the next level. We hope you'll join in on learning about this lovely part of comic making!

We’ll be ending the first day of the Webcomic Library con with a Figure Drawing Activity! Sarah, the creator of Adorkastock will be modeling while Mia ( @mintandvanilla), the creator of Tarot Tournament, will be drawing. Feel free to join in and draw alongside these amazing creators!
