my rom-com slice of life spin-off

its okay because will comes to his senses 10 minutes after this + kicks mike out + mike has to walk back to his dorm/home w blue balls and his tail tucked between his legs (SMILES)

Will still isn’t used to sleeping in El's old bedroom. He refuses to change anything about it. Not that there was much to change, it's still the carcass that she left when she moved to California. No drawings of dogs that they scribbled together at breakfast, no rainbow crafts, no hand-me-downs littering the floor. He wonders if her room in Lenora is still there, dented with gunshots. Another thing the government took from her. She lived her last year of life as a shell of herself. Who she was was something not even she knew. But Will did.

So did Max. They’ve been hanging out a lot more. Being targeted by the same serial killer is a great bonding experience. There’s a silent agreement between them that El is included in this. When Max talks about the summer she spent with El, Will wishes he had ditched the boys to be with them. It’s another notch in his belt of regret. Grief and regret feel like the same word.

There’s more to life than stupid boys, is something Will probably needed to hear earlier. If he had, maybe the foundation of jealousy his relationship with El was built on would have cracked earlier. All that lost time because he wanted his friends to feel like real friends. If only he had realized that the friends he needed were the ones he avoided. He hopes El felt like that time was made up in Lenora.

Sometimes when he really misses her, he plucks the only shirt of hers that fits out of the closet and wears it. Really, it’s his shirt that he donated to her. It adopted her signature flowery log cabin scent over the years, though.

Will thought it would be easier to get over Mike now that they aren’t living under the same roof. They might as well be with all the visits Mike takes to the cabin. Will wonders if Mike sleeps over because he enjoys his company or if he just needs an excuse to linger in El's room again. Mike says they’re best friends, but it doesn’t feel like it. It hasn’t in years. Even when she's gone, Will is still his second choice. But Will won't let himself be upset over it because he misses his sister too. He wishes it didn't leave a sour feeling in the pit of his stomach.

If Will is wearing El’s shirt during one of Mike’s weekly sleepovers, he can almost guarantee that Mike will invite him up onto the bed in the night. Mike scoots close enough to take in her faint smell and blur Will into his peripheral vision, but just far enough that they don't touch.

I’m not a second El, Will says.

I know, Mike responds.

Do you? Will thinks.

Will stopped wearing her (his) shirt around Mike after that. Mike never asked him to join him on the bed again.

the fact that kali was viewed as entirely expendable.

the fact that when both el and kali collapsed, hopper grabbed el and left kali on the floor, giving us that gutting shot of her all alone in pain - and there’s no way of knowing if hopper would’ve gone back for her, had el not begged him.

the fact that in mike’s epilogue about el, he couldn't even imagine kali going along with el to see the waterfalls; that she's not even seen as important to el, just 'the mage's sister'. instead, her last bit of free will is used to help el escape, but she doesn't get to go with her.

the fact that no one thought to even carry kali out of the lab after she'd died, so they could at least bury her properly, instead of leaving her there, alone, on the lab floor in the fucking upside down.

the fact that so many people were there to help look out for el, but no one was there to look out for kali.

killing the duffers with my mind.

Will and Lucas have hugged in every single season by the way.

Maya Hawke and Jimmy Fallon coming out as Byler shippers was so refreshing after having to go through this torturous depressing first week of nothing but mockery and humiliation at least we know some parts of the cast fully supported it.

The only byler conspiracy going around right now that I believe in is that a good chunk of the crew and cast wanted or expected byler to happen. We have confirmation of this for a few people. They may be just saying that to garner good will, but some seem genuine.

It's nice that a few people who worked on the show are respectful towards us. We needed it after Gaten said those odd comments about byler being "funny" and that we should find it beautiful how Mike still wants to be friends with Will despite him being gay. That was especially weird because I didn't expect or want anyone from the cast to talk about byler other than Noah (or Finn I guess). Even they haven't discussed it since the finale. Unless I forgot something. The only thing I remember Noah saying is that he had to tell the Duffers to give byler closure.
