Okay I mean absolutely no offense to anyone I see what they’re trying to say. But like. I really hate when people say Apo shouldn’t kill Scott because she should move on and not spend her time thinking about some terrible man and should be able to continue her life totally forgetting that awful person she met.
And like. I agree with the IDEA. But it is just simply NOT AS APPLICABLE as people act like it is. I’m not saying Apo should kill Scott purely because he wronged her and it’ll be cathartic or whatever vengeance plot ppl seem to think I’m after. It’s THE CURE.
People who don’t watch Apo probably don’t realize: they hate everything about being a vampire!!! They are actively suffering. They hate the idea of immortality, the fact that it’s temporary is what makes Apo think life is special and now nothing feels significant anymore. They miss being warm, their body isn’t warm anymore and the sun hurts as well as fires. They hate blood. They can’t stand it, it freaks them out heavily, and now they need to consume it and can no longer consume actually enjoyable things. Being a vampire is RUINING THEIR LIFE.
The idea that she could move on from Scott and forget about him is… nice, until you consider that the only way for that to possibly happen is if she just pretends she was always cursed with vampirism. Every time she has to suffer through drinking blood she’ll have to pretend it’s normal. Every time she feels cold she’ll have to pretend there isn’t a reason for it. Every time she thinks about how she won’t grow old she’ll have to try to forget what happened to her.
And it’s all REVERSIBLE. If only Scott WOULD DIE. Like, I get you all are hoping she isn’t haunted by Scott’s memory for HER sake, but it’s realistically only for SCOTT’S sake that Apo forgets about him. You are asking and hoping for her to come to accept a life that goes against everything about her character, just so she doesn’t kill Scott.
And you know what? Maybe she doesn’t want to kill Scott. She didn’t, after all. Maybe forgetting about Scott entirely is what Apo wants too. It sure sounded that way. But it doesn’t feel good for them. It’s sad. They’re accepting that the rest of their life (that they’ll purposely be cutting short) will be miserable. The only good thing they have is Cherri. Isn’t that terrible? They’ll have to hide their vampirism, struggle to make new friends because of it, struggle to live a normal life, all because of Scott.
I just don’t think they can forget about him, as much as they try. The reminders of what he did to them will be constant, and with it may come the thought that it could all be undone if Scott were to die. If he had died, they would be free. They could live the life they wanted to. They wouldn’t have to suffer like this.
And yes, those thoughts are haunting, and I could see why you’d wish she’d move on from them with good intentions. But it just means you hope she suffers for the rest of her life while absolving Scott of all repercussions. While the other option, that some of us are wishing for, is that she gets to live a good life at the cost of Scott’s. The one who forced her into a bad life in the first place. I can understand why people wouldn’t want that, and I won’t fault you for it, but god, stop acting like it’s for Apo’s sake.
Make it not about Scott. Say you hope Apo comes to somehow enjoy the vampire life, even though that seems unlikely. Say you hope she finds ways to manage the symptoms and make them less terrible. Don’t say you hope she forgets that there’s a solution. Moving on from someone who hurt you greatly, even permanently altering your life, is a fine thing to do, but this is the rare fictional case where their death would actually physically fix it. It’s not applicable to similar real life scenarios.
Like, okay, if you say the things I mentioned would be better, about Apo truly coping with vampirism, THEN her moving on from Scott entirely is actually a pretty good thing. So I guess my real problem is just that people START with moving on from Scott? And really ONLY mention that. Like it just makes it feel like they don’t get the problem because Scott being okay is not the root of it. If there was an alternative cure that Apo could take that would let Scott live, then yeah, only people who truly do want revenge plots would be rooting for Apo killing Scott. But as it stands there is no alternative cure and therefore there are non-cathartic reasons to wish death upon Scott. Sorry Scott. If only your redemption arc came before you permanently ruined an innocent girl’s life. Which I still don’t think you even feel bad about btw. I don’t think u even think about it.
