Ides was once a philosophy teacher at the Hythveard University, right in the heart of the Kenaz Republic. He came from humble means, his family running a local bar with his many siblings. He loved his job and his field, all the way up until he tracked down a missing student which unspooled an entire conspiracy. A conspiracy he certainly wasn't meant to see. In return for his amateur sleuthing, he was deeply traumatised and fled his home, a shell of his former self.

Koschei hired him to teach his then very young children. The man seemed flighty, and happy of the constant reassurance that he could, in fact, be safe here. As such he has been a staple in the Syndicate from the beginning- their bright eyed and very talkative teacher.

When he isn't teaching someone about something they mentioned offhand but now feel that they must come to lessons about, he works as an informant. No one ever suspects that he might be associated with anything other than dusty books and esoterica, and he finds it very easy to get someone talking about their life. Especially details they might otherwise neglect to bring up.
