One's first impression of Ramune goes like this: she's a flirt, a good listener, and dresses like a Shakespearean princess in hiding. Follow her deeper into the woods and she'll happily open up. She says she comes from a rich family back in Light, one with a bad case of helicopter parenting. The dull life of a noble didn't interest her—so, one night, she left. Perhaps that's why Ramu doesn't seem to grasp the concept of money nor realize when she's overstayed her welcome. Sweet as she may be, her list of favors owed is long. This fanciful soul sure knows a lot about forest life, too: what's fine to eat, which paths are harmless, exactly what the eerie overgrowth wants. "These trees are hungry alright, hungry as they've ever been," she'll chirp, then add "no different than you or I." There's something off about that sparking attitude, something otherworldly about those sudden deep cuts. It's the sort of thought that quickens one's breathing. This creature petting that mossy trunk might've watched time begin, she might've planted the forest she weaves through so easily. Well ... Better to have her leading dragons through than tangling them in it. |
