Kebehut is an ancient Egyptian goddess of death and the daughter of Anubis, the god of mummification, and his human wife, Anput. Her name means 'she of the heavenly waters' or 'cooling water'. She is usually depicted as a heavenly serpent with an ostrich feather on her head, or occasionally as a woman with the head of a jackal. Character: ☥ optimistic ☥ ☥ inquisitive ☥ ☥ calculating ☥ ☥ independent ☥ Kebehut was born into the human world, but after her mother, Anput, was murdered, she was exiled to the underworld (Duat), where she was used as leverage for Anubis. Her task was to provide water for the spirits of the dead while they waited for Anubis to perform the mummification process. She is also said to have helped the king obtain new life, but most of the time she lived in isolation in a modest home with many souls, as well as serpents and dogs. Kebehut had a soft spot for all kinds of animals, as her pets, along with Thoth, Maat and Anubis, were the only living beings in her life. As Anubis worked and travelled a lot, Kebehut grew up quickly and took care of the animals and the household. In front of her father, she is the perfect daughter, but when Anubis turns around or is threatened, she shows her other side. She could be cold, calculating and manipulative, but also very seductive. After Kebehut was allowed to leave the Duat, she explored the world of the living, although she is a little frightened of humans. After an initial period of difficulty with Amset, she grew closer to him and now enjoys teasing him. |
