Lonnie, Good memory. For grins, I was looking through my email archives and came across our messages. And you said the same thing, ha. It will be interesting to say the least. If any forward progress gets made, I'll update the group as it seems the distro that I used now with amateur radio linking has become deprecated and no longer maintained, though there is a growing interest in using embedded systems for RoIP. I've successfully built astlinux images before, so this might be a winter project. Thanks, ~Benjamin On Tue, 2014-12-23 at 09:33 -0600, Lonnie Abelbeck wrote: > Hi Benjamin, > > I recall you asking this question before, I did some googling and found this (2009) link: > > Building your own USB Radio Interface > http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/27 > > Which references app_rpt and chan_usbradio, which seemed to only exist in the short term Asterisk 1.6 series, both app_rpt and chan_usbradio were removed from the official Asterisk for 1.8 and later. > > [Asterisk Review Board] Remove chan_usbradio and app_rpt. > https://reviewboard.asterisk.org/r/1764/ > > As you know AstLinux is cross compiled, so adding a new channel driver is not trivial, best added via a patch. > > But quite frankly, without previous Buildroot experience and building Asterisk from source experience, this is a very difficult task. Hi Benjamin, I recall you asking this question before, I did some googling and found this (2009) link: Building your own USB Radio Interface http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/27 Which references app_rpt and chan_usbradio, which seemed to only exist in the short term Asterisk 1.6 series, both app_rpt and chan_usbradio were removed from the official Asterisk for 1.8 and later. [Asterisk Review Board] Remove chan_usbradio and app_rpt. https://reviewboard.asterisk.org/r/1764/ As you know AstLinux is cross compiled, so adding a new channel driver is not trivial, best added via a patch. But quite frankly, without previous Buildroot experience and building Asterisk from source experience, this is a very difficult task. And you will have to mostly go it alone. As long as you take your time, be willing to fail often and are a good researcher via google it may be possible. Your first step is to determine the dependencies of your app_rpt and chan_usbradio and see if they are all included. If not the hill got much steeper. Then you need to find Asterisk 1.8 or 11 compatible source for app_rpt and chan_usbradio... Finally, if the source is not maintained, you may be stuck using an older version of Asterisk for the source to compile, with unpatched security issues. without knowing any prerequisites, what can I expect to do to add non-standard, but known to be working, modules to asterisk when compiling astlinux? for example, I'd like to add chan_usb.so. also, there are some other programs that I'd like to add to the distro that go along with what I am doing. ~Benjamin |
