Thanks Darrick Yes I installed it on an AWS free trial and it was dead simple. I have decided to go down the Mikrotik Hotspot route for now however and see how that goes. It is truly sad that the UniFi software foundation is based on Java, the snippet below explains the two requirements, neither are a part of AstLinux. https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Updates-Blog/UniFi-4-6-3-is-released/ba-p/1215585 (UniFi.unix.zip) -- readme.txt snippet -- This is UniFi build for Linux/Unix-like system. It is not officially supported / regularly tested. It's basically a package that strips all of the native components Limitations =================== * Auto update (of UniFi controller) does not work * Backup/Restore does not work (see FAQ) System Requirements =================== * mongoDB 1.6.5 (http://www.mongodb.org/downloads) * Sun Java 6 Install =================== 1. unzip it to a directory you prefer, e.g. /path/to/UniFi 2. make sure you have mongod installed (out database server) for your platform 3. make sure /path/to/UniFi/bin/mongod points to the /path/to/mongod 4. to run it, cd /path/to/UniFi/ java -jar lib/ace.jar start 5. to stop it, cd /path/to/UniFi/ java -jar lib/ace.jar stop -- Supporting the UniFi controller would fit our "Add-On Packages:" abstraction if only it were a glibc blob (like FOP2) or all PHP/HTML ... but it is not. I think the main issue is that it appears to drag Java, at least the Mac and Windows versions do, I presume its the same on Linux. I have not investigated as these APs were just brought to my attention recently... and frankly my current WiFi setup is working fine for now so I don't feel any particular need to change. No Im thinking of just putting a single controller in the cloud with multiple sites. I have already run one up on AWS. It would be nice though if it was local on the router.
