Using Connection Pooling the onnection is not closed until the pool=20
performs a cleanup yo can try to add a Thread.Sleep to=20
DoRestoreDatabaseBackup(); or try to change the "Connection lifetime"=20
value in Connection String

It may not be in conformance but maybe there should be a parameter in=
 the
connection string to force a single connection even when the pooling =
on the
driver is set to ON.
I would never have thought to or wanted to do a restore via the old O=
DBC
connection setup and I suppose the .NET driver has some left over log=
ic
assocated with this kind of connection

Sorry if I misunderstood..
I imagine that with connection pooling turned on, then there are other
connections made by the driver at the time you make your single connection.
With connection pooling turned on, there is also the timeout to consider on
connection made, not used and expired...

database file in use (myDatabase.fdb), but this works only when

Thanks for the feedback.  Asp.net is enough new technology for me right
now.  After much thought, I decided to upgrade production box to
Firebird anyway, and now my site is up and running.

feature in a program, using "gbak -RESTORE_DATABASE" command.  My code
is something like this:


myConnection.Close();
DoRestoreDatabaseBackup();
myConnection.Open();


It works perfect with ConnectionPooling = false, but almost never when
ConnectionPooling = true, even if "myConnection" is the only connection
opened across the application.  It's not a problem for me by now, I only
need a connection, I'll work without ConnectionPooling, but I'd like to
know how could I do it in case of working with more than one connection.

Huumm at this moment no for connection to the firebird server the 
provider is sending PROTOCOL_VERSION10 as protocol version i can suggest 
you to modify this by the protocol version used by Interbase 4, in 
GDS.CS line 2150, recompile the provider sources ( using NAnt 
nant.sourceforge.net) and try it, with your app or using the NUnit test 
suite, and if you can please comment here the results of your test :).

Hi,

My development machine is Win XP, Firebird 1.03, .net 1.1, FBNetProv
1.1.  The production box is Win 2k Server, Interbase 4.0 (sic), .net
1.1, FBNetProv 1.1.  The ASP.NET project works great on the development
box.

But when I try to run it on production (IB 4.0), I get

GDSException: Exception of type FirebirdSql.Data.INGDS.GDSException was
thrown
...
FbException: connection rejected by remote interface

trying to open an FbConnection.  The connect string is

    public connStr As String = "User=xxx; Password=xxx;" & _
      "Database=C:\\db\\xxx.gdb;" & _
 
"Server=localhost;Port=3050;Dialect=1;Charset=NONE;Role=;Connection" & _
      "lifetime=15;Pooling=true;Packet Size=8192"

I can connect to IB 4.0 db's via ISAPI DLL's using http on the same web
site.

Does firebird-net-provider work with IB 4.0?  If not, any suggestions
what I might try to connect to the db via asp.net?  Unfortunately,
upgrading from IB 4.0 is not an option.

From your previous answer, which now that I look at it
I should have been able to find myself, using the
FbType enumeration corrects the problem for me.

However, I'm writing in C++, using the interop
services within a single managed C++ module (the rest
of the application is unmanaged), so the behavior
could be different because of this.

I can't post the exact code (non-disclosure contracts
prevent me), but here's the "psuedo-code" example
(unchecked, so I don't even know if this actually
compiles) of what's happening:

Once I get the datatable (similar to your C# example),
I have this:

for (short c=0;c<c_count;c++)
        {
         DataColumn * col = columns->get_Item( c );
         Object *o = row->get_Item( col );

         switch( Type::GetTypeCode( o->GetType() ) )
           {
...// enumerating the various typecodes from
TypeCode::Decimal, etc. (they all work as expected)

             case TypeCode::Object:
              { Type *t = o->GetType();
                n = Type::GetTypeCode(t);

In this example, what I get is an "Object", from which
I get a type, and then a typecode. I'm not sure why -
it's the only field that does this (the ProviderType
gives me a number, as expected), and I've not yet
checked the MsSQL2000 version (I'm doing both side by
side) to see if it does the same thing - I think it
does (which would suggest the problem isn't your
provider).

When I perform the "ExecuteReader" with behavior
options set to "SchemaOnly | KeyInfo", I get a
DataTable that lists all the columns resulting for a
query, but I can't make sense out of the "DataType"
and "ProviderType" entries. DataType seems to be 1 in
all cases, whereas I get various values for
"ProviderType" - but that doesn't seem to correctly
match values from the DbType or TypeCode enumerations.

What table of types should I be using?
