Do not open account with this bank. Have been trying to access my account for 4 days to initiate transfer, keep receiving error messages stating that it couldn’t completed. Customer service isn’t much help. Links to unlock account don’t work. Stay away from this bank unless you don’t want the ability to access money. Michael Field
On 1-7-2026, I received an email alert advising that a "certificate of deposit" had been automatically renewed on 12-27-2025 - exactly one day after the ten-day grace period in which I could have taken some other action. I received no email to advise when maturity was approaching. They did make a notice available within the online banking profile, which of course one would never see unless they had some reason to log in - and unlike other institutions, they did not send an email to advise that such a communication had been posted. The email alert that was finally sent to advise of automatic renewal was NOT sent on the day of the renewal event; it was intentionally delayed such that the grace period would be exhausted before I received it. As I result, I was forced to pay about $600 in penalties to recover my investment. Over decades of investing in CDs with numerous banks, I have never been treated like this, and I regard this to be an unscrupulous scam. Perhaps this will serve as a forewarning to others; I will certainly never use them again for anything.
Don’t believe anything that they tell you! Was promised a higher rate when I was looking at moving my money. They promised a higher interest rate so I stayed with them. They said that no written verification of their offer was available. Turns out the increased rate never happened and when I called them and was also at the same time looking at my statements my account was blocked, and got a message that my statements were no longer available.
Should be called Crooked Bank!
Lubaki Nkete and Erin Hodges put my account in collections while I was out due to cancer treatments. They never sent me a final notice and put accounts in collections that were not even 30 days past due. They decided to stop responding and gave no guidance on how to proceed with net accounts that needed to be paid that were not past due. The collection agency didnt even have the correct invoices and these 2 ladies knew I was going through cancer treatments. Disgusting people and actions! DO NOT USE CIT
One day out of the blue I was no longer able to get into my account. I answered the same questions over and over on the phone with different people, it was a complete hassle getting back into my account. Account was closed after 4 months as soon as I was finally able to get back into my account.
I have had a Premium savings account with Cit for 2 years and have had no problems with them. I am surprised to read all the negative comments and no positive ones. I'm sure I am not the only one who has had good service from Cit. Makes you wonder if something is not right about these reviews. P.S. I know several other people who are Cit customers and have not had any problems with them. ?????
Haven't been able to log in for 5 days now. This is ridiculous.. and definitely not the first time this has happened. It's a routine occurrence with their app/website.
Stay away form this bank. They allow people to open accounts under your name with no identifiable info. The do not follow the Know Your Customer (KYC) laws and when you contact them to inquire and report fraud... THEY DO NOT HAVE A FRAUD DEPT who you can speak to or obtain key info. SHADY AF. Better going with a legitimate bank
I am writing this review to warn future customers about the arbitrariness and irresponsibility in the handling of essential services by CIT Bank.
I recently registered on their platform and completed the enrollment process for the Zelle service. Initially, when using an email already associated with another entity (a common mistake I immediately tried to correct), the system prompted me to change it. I did so: I moved the original email to secondary and successfully enrolled with a new primary email. The system allowed me to use Zelle, receive a transfer, and validate my account.
Without any prior warning or clear communication regarding a terms violation, CIT Bank proceeded to block my access to Zelle the next day, unilaterally.
What is far more serious and completely unacceptable is that CIT Bank's action did not just affect me on their platform; somehow, this institution triggered an alert that caused the blocking of my Zelle service at my other main bank.
I feel deeply harmed by the disproportionate and arbitrary actions of CIT Bank. Instead of communicating or requesting clarification, they opted for a block that has had direct and negative consequences on my ability to manage my finances at other institutions.
This is not just an inconvenience; it is a demonstration of risk management and customer care that is, at best, negligent, and at worst, abusive. I demand an explanation and a resolution to this unjustified block that has created a chain problem for my financial life.
Warning to Future Customers: Exercise extreme caution regarding this bank's unilateral actions, which can have severe repercussions beyond their own platform

Website is terrible. Want to check your balace? You have a 10% chance that you will be able to even log in. Most of the time you can't even get the website to load at all. IF you actually can log in you have almost no chance of actually transferring $$ before it times out in an endless loading loop. I'm done. I'm going to move all my $$ out. Of course that is easier said than done..... The rate of return on their savings account it good, but I'm tired of dealing with the access issues... which have been going on for YEARS.

CIT BANK’S BEHAVIOR TOWARD MY ACCOUNT WAS OUTRAGEOUS — I’VE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE IT
I am beyond furious with CIT Bank. What happened to me is so outrageous that I feel obligated to warn EVERYONE.
I opened accounts on 9/24/25, deposited $52,250, completed every requirement for their $300 and $100 bonuses, and then withdrew the large deposit — but I left MY money in the accounts:
• $100.10 in checking
• $137.34 in Platinum Savings
Then, on 10/29/25, CIT Bank shut down BOTH accounts without ANY notice, ANY warning, ANY explanation, NOTHING.
No email.
No call.
No message.
Just gone.
And here’s the part that has me absolutely LIVID:
They did NOT return my remaining money.
MY $237.44 simply disappeared when they closed the accounts.
In my experience, it felt like they just took it.
I don’t care how they try to justify this — no legitimate bank should EVER close an account with zero notice and keep the customer’s balance. The fact that this happened is absolutely unbelievable.
When I contacted customer service, the responses were dismissive, vague, and completely unhelpful. No explanation. No accountability. No resolution. Just “the accounts are closed.” Meanwhile, my money is still missing.
I want my money back. ALL of it.
And until CIT Bank fixes this, I will warn EVERY SINGLE PERSON I CAN:
⚠️ In my experience, CIT Bank closes accounts without notice.
⚠️ In my experience, CIT Bank did NOT return the money in my accounts.
⚠️ What happened to me felt completely unacceptable and deeply untrustworthy.
If you are considering banking here: DON’T.
What happened to me should NEVER happen to anyone.
CIT Bank’s actions raise serious concerns regarding:
(1) unlawful account closure practices,
(2) improper withholding or seizure of consumer funds,
(3) failure to provide legally required disclosures,
(4) deceptive promotional practices, and
(5) potential violation of federal consumer protection laws.
I am filing this addendum to ensure there is a clear, written record of the timeline, the amounts involved, and CIT Bank’s refusal to return my funds. I request immediate investigation and full restitution of all money wrongfully taken.

This trash bank will lock your account and will do everything possible to not make contact with you as the customer. Do yourself a favor and keep your cash somewhere else.
Update: I've called several times and this bank really does not care about you.

I have been transferring funds into my account days prior because I knew I had to send a wire for earnest money. The money is pending and will not be available until after my deadline. I called the bank, and they apologized. It's a process, as I was told. So it takes 5 days to settle a $20 transaction? This is ridiculous! The minute this money settles, I will be transferring my money out of this bank.

I just spent time trying to open an account online and at the end it says unable to open an account. Total disgusting treatment. I have top credit and top history. I will never use them again and advise others to steer clear!

Truly fell off. I joined when they have a 5% interest rate and since then, it's dropped below many competing banks. This would be whatever except their website and app is CONSTANTLY down' I think 80% of the time when I try to check my balance, it's just loading loops and a non-working site. It's not a nice experience to have so much money locked up in an unreliable place so I'm transferring it all out ASAP.

Update:
I called the number CIT bank left for me. It was an unpleasant experience. The person had to follow a ridiculously long proceedure that took ages. Even then it didn't work several times. Finally I got access to my account and withdrew all my funds.
Apparently they upgraded their access to online banking without informing their customers! I recommend having nothing to do with them.

Do not waste your time or money with this bank, they are complete garbage. First Citizens owns this bank but whoever is in-charge should be fired immediately. Their app is absolutely horrible. I mean it’s a completely online bank, your Tech should be top notch. They take forever to credit transfers to your account. Im sorry but 7 days in 2025 when the transfer is complete the next day is just way too long. Their high yield interest rate falls constantly. Just avoid the headache, this bank sucks!

When I went to the account online (or on the app) to make a transfer an offer comes up for a higher interest rate. Very deceiving message because it cancels the transfer. You have to say no to the offer to transfer your money. I had to get an agent on the phone to explain that this was a retention offer. It doesn't say that.
Overall it has been a difficult digital experience and I am ending it today.

Overall the bank account is fine. However, they said I'd get 4.6% interest on my savings account, which I never received. I received 4.3% on my first month and went down to 4% the following month. I'd have to say they are not "Honest" overall when it comes to their interest percentages.
Customer service of CIT bank is hampered by an ill constructed security system, and website (i.e. bad IT). I was told usernames have to be in all caps. Mine was in all lowercase was not rejected when I opened/created the account.
So when I went to enter my account page for the first time, I entered it in all lowercase, as I had, when I created the account, the site would then request to send SIM codes to phone numbers that are not all connected to me. Of course this looked like the phishing expedition so I called them. I had 4 conversations with the 3 different reps throughout the day (the first rep was useless, I think because he might’ve been new and didn’t understand exactly what the problem was with their system) and it was obvious this is not their fault.
It’s the website and IT security design. The last rep told me there is a fix coming for this or at least a notice about these problems coming out, but I wasted hours and they wasted hours speaking with me. Again, nota service desk problem. They are stuck with bad IT security and website design.
