No Customer Loyalty

I have been a Helsana customer since 2008 (basic and supplementary insurance) and recently faced a very disappointing experience.
A registered letter sent in October regarding maternity and accident premiums — paid for years despite no longer being relevant — went unanswered. During a call on November 14 on another matter, I mentioned my letter, and the response was cold and dismissive: “no reimbursement, no goodwill gesture.” In short, no appreciation for 17 years of loyalty.
My request to upgrade from semi-private to private hospital coverage was also refused without explanation, despite a transparent medical questionnaire and no foreseeable hospitalization.

I understand that insurers make profits — around 75% net in my case over 17 years — that’s not the issue. What’s unacceptable is the lack of empathy, rigidity, and condescending attitude.
Helsana shows no sense of customer loyalty or respect. I cannot recommend it.

Absolute mess

Absolute mess. Just moved to geneva for 1year 3months, my experience with helsana was a total disappointed. Everytime u called the customer service, write them a message on helsana app- same question but different answers from different people. You have to be extremely careful with them. Extremely unprofessional. I will change provider as well.

The most unethical insurance company in Switzerland BY FAR

If you have a mandatory insurance that you know you will NEVER EVER use maybe consider them because they are slightly cheaper. Otherwise, avoid them like the plague. Their policy is to deny all claims and to make your life so hard you give up. A vile, vile company.

It's a bad insurer. Avoid at all means. My wife cant sleep and suffering of pain but these people require 4 week to review.

Agree with the negative reviews. Have been with them since March 2025. Really poor communication: emails bounce around among the various customer service people and you are lucky to get a fast answer. Reminders needed for them to respond. I am now probably transferring to another provider.

Ignoring client for a month and then presenting them with a fait accompli

I wanted to get an insurance with Helsana. I provided the documents they requested and was told to wait for them to contact me back. It took them one month! Just to ask for more documents which I didn't provide as I no longer wanted to get the insurance with them. Shortly after I received a letter that they had contacted the French authorities on my behalf and had started my contract. No clear communication whatsoever as to where we are at with the procedure! I wanted a call with the service desk but I only received a reply that my insurance was valid and a questsion if I had their new app. Even though the phonecall was scheduled, nobody contacted me. I do not even know how to preceed with the paperwork on my side and Helsana is not helpful at all.

Absolutely awful experience with…HELSANA telemedicine and the invoice paybacks

Absolutely awful experience with Helsana – avoid if you value proper support

I’m beyond disappointed with Helsana. I called their telemedicine line for advice and was explicitly told to go to the emergency room at the University Hospital Zurich. I followed their instructions - waited eight hours in the ER .. and now I’ve received a bill of CHF 1'095.25.

What does Helsana do? Refuses to cover a single cent.

How is this even possible when I was acting on their medical advice? I didn’t go there on a whim - they sent me. And I’m the one left footing the entire bill? Absolutely ridiculous.

Their telemedicine service is useless, and their coverage is even worse. I honestly feel scammed. If this is how they treat loyal customers in urgent medical situations, I suggest looking elsewhere for proper health insurance.

Sick pay denied despite medically certified incapacity for work – and all this during an active employment contract! Weeks of silence, just excuses. The illness is real, the evidence is clear.
Helsana not only ignores its obligations, but also turns its back on people in need.
Never again.

Krankentaggeld trotz ärztlich bestätigter Arbeitsunfähigkeit verweigert – und das mitten im gültigen Arbeitsverhältnis! Wochenlang keine Antwort, nur Ausreden. Die Krankheit ist real, die Beweise liegen vor.
Helsana ignoriert nicht nur ihre Pflicht, sondern auch Menschen in Not.

They lost their way

I have been with them for 7 years with no issues until now! Very disappointed with their service after refusing to pay for treatment i had with a doctor for over 2 years for Chronic Migraines. Do not use them as they are no longer as good,as,they used to be.

Since 2022 we are by helsana, the worst insurance company what I ever met. Till August 2023 was everything ok. Then it's happened, that emergency they needed to remove one of my back tooth. I payed on the place. Sent the invoice, they were not even reacting on it. Then I had a skin reaction for something, till today I did not find out the reason. Went to my house doctor. I'm getting an invoice, please do not pay it! Ok. Months later I'm getting from helsana a Mahnung, that I was not paying. When I called them, the worker from them she said, that I need to pay by myself, because I have 2500 franchise and 700 Selbstbehalt.... We told her, that this she was explaining differently. And why they not pay the emergency, the answer was, because I don't have a teeth insurance. After this because, probably an allergy, I got emergency an infusion, this I also got in an invoice, of course, months later with a Mahnung. So basically, I need to pay 400/ month for nothing, and by it I have to pay all my medical expenses too. The cancellation they are not accepting, even that we can cancel straight, if they going up with the price!!! They confusing everyone, they sending the invoices 1000 times with a differently date, differently amount, double, and so on...... Ah. No!
Then we agreed with helsana, that all our open invoices we pay out till end 2025, and we leave. Now they started to send betreibungs, and again, the separate all invoices to put more costs on.....
Please don't go to helsana!!!

American style fraud, they will generate obstacles to avoid reimbursement

I was quite satisfied until about mid 2024. From that point onwards, HELSANA does nothing but create obstacles and slow any reimbursement. I am awaiting thousands in reimbursements. They bombarde me with forms to fill and find impossible conditions to reconsider reimbursing costs. They will reimburse charges for years and suddenly claim those charges are no longer covered. This has the feel of an American insurance scam, where the company exists only to reimburse as little as possible. What a nightmare.

Legaly binding requests for information!

I tried to move to Helsana from CSS in 2023. Filled all the papers, got the proposal in November.
Suddenly I released that I skipped the date to move away from CSS, so I was forced to stay with them for another year.
Despite this fact, Helsana sent me a 10k bill in January and told me that my request was a legally binding one (I never signed anything!), and that I must pay those money to them. I said No, and I was ready to go to Police, but hopefully they pushed back.

So be careful, read the small text, clearly communicate that your request for information is not legally binding until you sign the policy!

Completely inefficient company

I cancelled my family's insurance with Helsana in April 2024. A few weeks later I received a card in the post for complementary insurance for my son, which I never requested. I sent several emails asking what was going on and requesting that it be cancelled. I got no reply but the money was deducted from my bank account each month, presumably using the authorisation I gave when I was still a client. Eventually in August the company confirmed the insurance had been cancelled and I was reimbursed. But then in September I received invoices for July and September, and in October I received an invoice for June. Despite numerous emails, the issue has still not been resolved. It's been an incredibly infuriating and opaque process and I do not recommend using Helsana.

Shockingly bad

Very bad customer service, very expensive service, little to no understanding of customer needs, little to no help from Helsana. Swiss system really suffers from bad health insurance companies, and Helsana is the worst I've come across.

Great Team

Never write reviews and was specifically looking for peoples views on Legal insurance. Felt the need to defend the team that has helped me with the health insurance as they have been nothing but accommodating, flexible and quick to respond. Have been with them for 4 years. No issues at all.

Avoid Helsana - Unlawful Practices Exposed

I am writing to urgently warn you about Helsana Insurance. My recent experience with the company reveals one of the most disgusting encounters, raising serious concerns about their illegitimate practices and potential blackmailing of clients.

Despite canceling my insurance with them, I have repeatedly received threatening letters from Helsana Insurance Company Ltd, falsely claiming an outstanding amount.

Furthermore, the company disguises itself as "Helsana Insurance Company Ltd, collection services," falsely posing as an official authority. They have consistently ignored all my emails and letters. Despite providing evidence of canceled travel insurance, they persist in demanding payment, indicating illegal actions. It appears that Helsana Insurance is managed and owned by individuals with criminal intent.

Exercise extreme caution and avoid any dealings with Helsana, given their unlawful practices and apparent ties to illicit activities.

Absolutely horrible

Absolutely horrible. No service with high overcharge. Took it due to a broker recommendation, without own search and will cancel as soon as possible, but as I currently stuck with it would like to advise everyone to never take this insurance.

I changed my insurance and I got a new…

I changed my insurance and I got a new policy with Helsana. I specifically asked about the massages and the therapist i'm working with (after the check, the person that was insuring me told me that he is in the list and that Helsana gonna cover the costs)and I stipulated an additional insurance that covers 75% of the costs. After the first treatment, Helsana rejected to pay the costs obliging me to change the therapist with some on their list (that I never received). Great scam just for selling the insurance to more people possible!!! I already sent the message with the cancellation of my policy at the end of the year
