terrible

terrible. they don't wait for charging you, but when it's about service, you can easily wait 1 month, without an excuse.

Very disappointing experience with Swica.

It feels like they are only interested in taking money from customers, and as soon as they decide you are “costly” for them, they look for reasons to get rid of you. My supplementary insurance was canceled after I was outside Switzerland for three to four months and was unable to pay during that period.

As soon as I returned, I paid all outstanding premiums in one full settlement. At first, Swica told me that if I paid everything at once, my supplementary insurance would be reinstated. After I did exactly that, they suddenly changed their position and told me that I was “too costly” for them and therefore my supplementary insurance would be rejected.

This feels dishonest and unfair. They gave me hope that the issue was only about payment, took the full amount, and then canceled my supplementary insurance anyway. There was no transparency and no real willingness to support a customer who resolved their debt responsibly.

I would strongly warn others: if Swica decides you are no longer profitable, they may simply cancel your supplementary insurance, even after you settle everything. Very poor customer treatment and trust is completely broken.

I tried to request a callback twice

I tried to request a callback twice, to talk about moving the health insurance for myself and my daughter to SWICA. No response.

I chatted with a salesguy at the Pink Ribbon run, and he gave me his card.

With him, I did get a 30-minute call, but there were red flags. At the end of the call, he asked me some questions for the policy, I answered, but he put in other answers.

eg "Do you drink alcohol ?" I answered, yes, I'm English (?) so yes, sometimes. On the form, he wrote that I never drink alcohol.

eg "What is the weight of your daughter ?" I told him, 45kg. He said "I'll write 50kg, just so it doesn't raise any issues." I told him, no, that's lying.. please write 45kg.

And then.. I got a follow-up email from him asking if I'd checked the Policy document, first at 12.07am on a Saturday morning.... then at 10.07pm on a Monday night (?!!!!)

At this point, I emailed him, and copied in the SWICA helpdesk, to raise my concerns, and saying I was going elsewhere.

Once again... absolutely no response.

I *work* in insurance, I know how these companies sometimes use what you've put in your form to escape from paying for health issues.

The experience I had with SWICA was fraudulent.
And I wasn't even a customer yet !

Avoid.

(Two months later.)

Absolutely no response from SWICA, either directly on TrustPilot about this review, or from the email I sent to their customer services. Yeah... apparently, this is the level of service you should expect from them....

SWICA is by far the worst health insurance in CH

SWICA is by far the worst health insurance in CH based on personal experience, based on experience from my social environment etc.

No communication.
If you call them to discuss (very) urgent issues, no understanding, just excuses.
They will basically try to fool you wherever they can, as long as they're not sure if you will surely cancel the contract. I will for sure in the end of November.

Avoid at all costs. Better pay a bit more for other insurers instead of being handled like an idiot instead of a customer.

Will definitely cancel my insurance with them this year and choose a better insurer.

Poor customer service

Poor customer service, and took multiple attempts to follow up on correspondence before getting answers or support.

I tried to cancel my annual subscription via email. Unfortunately, I missed the end of November deadline by several hours and they showed no leniency or understanding. I'm now stuck with poor service for another year.

Terrible Customer Experience – Avoid SWICA

I have been deeply disappointed with SWICA as my health insurance provider. They constantly challenge valid claims, making an already stressful situation even more frustrating. Instead of supporting their customers during health-related issues, they seem more focused on finding ways to avoid paying out claims.

Additionally, I have experienced changes to my insurance coverage without any prior communication or consent. This lack of transparency and disregard for their customers’ needs is unacceptable for an insurance provider.

I cannot recommend SWICA to anyone looking for reliable and supportive health insurance. Their poor customer service and questionable practices have left me feeling let down and disrespected. Look elsewhere if you value peace of mind and integrity in your health insurance provider.

***Please stay away from Swica***

***Please stay away from Swica***
I lived in Switzerland for 18 years as of 2025 and Swica is the worst insurance provider I had in 2024-25.
1. They deploy shady external agents to lie and get customers.
2. Once you are a customer they will challenge each and every claim that you make, just to make your life miserable. I never had so much issues to get reimbursement for my glasses as I had the additional insurance. Even for Gym subscriptions, my subscription was from 31.12.2024-31-12-2025, and they denied payment saying the subscription must start on day 1 of 2025.
Now after I left I get another reminder of some cryptic 33 CHF to be paid with fees of another 40 CHF extra. It seems they did not give me a discount in July 2024 of 33 CHF and now want to claim it back with a fee of 42 CHF extra. They are total fraud.

Poor communications

I decided to move to Swica Luzern after disaster with CSS.
1. To onboard I printed + filled + signed + scanned 44 page document filled with very similar questions.
2. They are very bad in replying to emails. 50% of my emails were ignored
3. They asked me to fill the medical report for kids in the dental clinic and told me they will cover the costs. I did it, send them the bill from the dental clinic. Silence was my answer despite multiple reminders.
4. After few days I got a mail from Swica that my request for dental insurance for my kids was declined because I haven't provided the dental examination document to them..... which I sent a week ago
5. I was quickly tired with such a poor communications and constant issues even during the on-boarding, so I sent them an official cancellation letter. Surprisingly, they replied fast and cancelled my never-started insurance.
6. Happy end! Thousands of nerve cells saved!

Don't get the vacanza plan with them…

Don't get the vacanza plan with them (or anything, probably). They only have a swiss phone (expect to pay 3 CHF/min) and they literally don't answer, even if waiting for over 30 mins (after which I hang out the phone). They say they have an emergency hotline 24h worldwide, but it is literally impossible to contact them. God help you if you have an emergency abroad (like me).

Really Poor

I find the Swica service confusing and poor, I think there is big disorganisation inside their team. I have had so many issue on coverage, getting services that were promised, it would take my pages to describe so I will just switch to another provider next year. If any one from Swica management would want to contact me I will explain but I have wasted enough time with them and don't plan on writing long letter that I doubt they will even read.

Terrible choice

Terrible choice. Switched to them after getting swindled by an "insurance specialist", then they increased the prices for most parts of the insurance by more than 10%, before the policy even started. When trying to cancel, I was locked in by one part of the insurance that could not be canceled. Never again, stay away from this

Zero Customer Service

Probably the worst health insurance company that I have ever had to deal with. Despite winning awards for customer service, the actual customer service provided is close to zero so I can only assume that standards are very low.
Invoices are complicated, I have been invoiced for amounts already paid and when you try to use their online tool/website to raise a query you just constantly get the message “and error has occurred, please try again later”.
Direct messages and emails to SWICA are simply ignored.
If they can’t respond to simple queries from customers, I would really worry about how they would respond if I ever actually needed to use my insurance cover.
Competitors may be slightly more expensive but at least you will get the service and support that you, as a customer, deserve.

The worst insurance

The worst insurance, ever!! the service is cero...swica subcontract medical services, which do business at the expense patients' health, asking for unnecessary medical tests only to collect money. In my opinion SWICA is a medical insurance that does NOT care about health.
If I need to go to the dermatologist the next available date is in two months!! and to go to the specialist to check a problem I have with my legs.. the answer was be patience they will call you to make the appointment (that was a week ago).. so I am in pain and I still do not know when I will be able to go to the doctor..

SWICA is lying with its complementary health insurance cover

I´ve been a customer of this health insurance company for more than 9 years. Now I´m paying a complementary health insurance which has a cover of 90% of the costs of all preventive treatments provided by the therapists accepted by the insurance (included in a list) with NO LIMIT. But this isn´t true. They just stopped paying the inovoices with no further comunication. I never received an explanation. The fact of NO LIMIT is only marketing. It isn´t the truth. The insurance doesn´t like that you are using the services that they offered you when they sold you this aditional cover.
And the customer service is the worst ever. They just never contacted me.

NEVER AGAIN

NEVER AGAIN, NIE WIEDER, PLUS JAMAIS, NUNCA MAS, больше никогда... After four months of back and forth, I still don't have any policy. Only after me calling them actively they provided some information little by little. I could not even provide my insurance number to get a service, because they have not provided it. My partner just called today and was told, documents have not even been processed. After four months, how can that be even possible? How can you rely on them? They said they will take a month at least to issue my insurance card, which I need ASAP. But of course, the first bill arrived on time!
