The seated accommodation was an improvement on the old coaches though that would not have been difficult! At least now the lighting is turned down a bit. The reclining seats are no more reclining than in 1st Class on a day train such as Azuma so still difficult to get to sleep.
Was there really no “room” (in a design & marketing sense) for a budget lie down option between basic seating and pricey cabins (esp pricey for solo customers) to be included when the new sleepers were designed & built.

It’s good to hear that the improvements to the seating and lighting made a difference. I understand your thoughts about the reclining seats, unfortunately there was not enough space in this carriage to accommodate a lie down option in the seated section.

Basically great service, though obvs that is dependent on how the contracted repair engineers perform.
