Don’t report a car stolen you will be blacklisted.

When we had our car stolen I reported it to BD . It turned up and I cancelled my claim. I then get an email saying they will not insure me anymore, so cancel all 3 policies.
That’s right I didn’t claim, I don’t get to keep my insurance and I will not be using them after they have taken thousands of dollars off me whilst I have never claimed. Loyalty doesn’t count for much. Please no if you report a claim without claiming they will never insure you again.

Extremely inefficient and frustrating claims process

My claim with Budget Direct started in early September 2025 after my Ford (market value approx. $7,000 AUD) was rear-ended.

I was first directed to a repairer in Castle Hill, but the assessment was not conducted until 3 November 2025. Then in early December, I was told to take the car to another repairer in Seven Hills for a second quote because the first repairer considered it a total loss.

By mid-January 2026, I was advised the car was repairable and approved for repairs, supposedly taking 10 business days. However, the current estimated completion date is 17 February 2026 — almost 5 months after the accident.

During this period, a rental car was provided at approximately $70 per day for around 5 months (about $10,500), with repair costs estimated at around $4,500, plus additional administrative expenses. Meanwhile, I continued paying insurance premiums (around $900 over that time) and also had to renew registration, green slip, and pink slip (around $1,000 total).

I requested a cash settlement earlier in the process, but was told they must follow internal procedures. In my opinion, the handling of this claim was slow, inefficient, and financially unreasonable given the vehicle’s value.

Overall, this has been a very disappointing experience, and I expected far better claim management and decision-making.

Who said Claims are hard???

OK, Budget Direct was not the cheapest but was the best option when we bought our property. After 3 months in our new home we were hit by an unusual hailstorm that followed a channel about 300m wide through Esk from the South West. We were fortunate (unlike many) that our house remained watertight - though one window was badly cracked.

We thought it would take several months to get fixed (people were talking March to April 2026), and we thought we would be low priority given we were watertight. It did take about a month before Ambrose were appointed, but the work is all done. New roof, new solar panels (that were less than 2 months old), new solar water system, repairs to gutters etc, new antennae - the list goes on.

Ambrose provided a schedule and have completed works on target. Quality of workmanship looks brilliant. Communications were very good, even when logistics (deliveries, skips) did not go to plan.

Absolutely no complaints - only praise for the dedication and workmanship.

fkn useless

i took out a policy for comp ages ago when i first got my car, and the price has slowly risen over time (and no, it wasn’t just adjusted for inflation). the most recent renewal was a jump from $120 a month to just under $160. important to note i have never had an accident, and have a clean driving record - the only claim i ever made was for hail damage when i got caught in an insane storm on the highway, which was back in 2021

i get this is what insurance companies do, prey on people who either don’t bother to check or can’t be asked negotiating a better price or shopping around, but this is a sick joke. youi gave me a much better deal - equivalent policy for $95. don’t bother with these clowns, they are horrible for claims and even worse for their disgusting behaviour with premiums

Budget Direct POOR

Budget Direct – extremely poor service

I contacted Budget Direct after another person hit our car with a trolley. We provided a witness statement, the person’s driver’s licence, and their contact details.

Despite this, Budget Direct advised we still have to pay the $1,300 excess. They were not willing to contact the person responsible or even attempt to recover the costs.

Very disappointing experience. We’re being asked to pay for damage that was clearly not our fault.

I would not recommend Budget Direct to anyone. Save your money and go with a more reputable insurer.

Go with any other company

Go with any other company, terrible company. I had to call 9 times to try ans get my car towed and was told to drive my crashed car to the mechanic???? Save yourself the trouble and go anywhere else.

They are lightning-fast at taking your money and completely useless when you actually need help. The claims process is a nightmare — slow, incompetent, and designed to wear you down until you give up.

Customer service is either painfully unhelpful. No accountability, no empathy, no support. Just excuses while you’re left stranded.

If you value your time, money, or sanity, stay far away. This company exists to collect premiums, not to honour claims. Never, ever go with them.

Extremely average insurance company

Extremely average insurance company. Refused to renew our insurance after only claiming two windscreens within 12 months. Refused to explain why or have any sympathy. Misleading as this is not disclosed unlike other insurance companies. Do not recommend at all. Avoid at all costs.
