BUDGET CAR RENTAL AT GATWICK, rented a car via Expedia paid for it on my debit card, picked the car up which wasn’t what I ordered, I was made to pay for additional protection cover insurance which they already have for all their cars as it is by law to do so, but okay, then at the desk the lady said they have to check if the address I am going to stay is eligible for car rental, which I haven’t heard of such thing before, okay, then she said the address is okay, then I pay protection for £251.79, on top of what I paid for the rental. She gives me the key to the car and sends me off to the car deck alone I get the car thinking it’s okay, but the car was wobbly and had black filmed windows that made my sight difficult. I had to go because I had sick mum that needed my attendance at the hospital. After I got out of the car I noticed all 4 tyres were flat. I get that fixed myself. Few days later they send me an email saying I have to bring the car back to them with no reason, only that its lease has come to an end. So I had to take time off from my schedule for taking care of my sick mum to drive all the way back to Gatwick airport for this. Then they decide to upgrade me a better car bigger to compensate their own mishandling and risk the car they gave me, with no extra charge and no refill petrol tank, I accepted. At the end of my lease period, I asked to add one more day because of unpredicted circumstances, and they got me to pay a full rental price for the upgraded car but not the fee for my initial daily rent fee, I said okay, paid, then next day I brought back the car with half full tank, sparkling clean and all perfectly intact. On my way on the flight I received an email from them with an invoice to pay extra £350 including petrol money and all. I call them then wait more than 10 minutes to speak to someone, the lady was helpful, and all the malarkey. Seriously, if we as customers needed such stress and drama for the time we are leasing something what’s the point? Nothing but confusing people and trying to mislead them as well as overcharge them after they already paid, and cause all this stress? What is all this? So I have to pay the world to just rent a car for a week or two? Or even a day? My credit card they blocked it for about 700 pounds? I will dispute and fight for my right to make sure you don’t take the money you don’t deserve. Will never use this company for anything ever again. I would rather be taken in and out of the airport with a shuttle and not settle for this in airport office for any convenience. Beware of this company.

Terrible experience. Unprofessional staff and customer service that does not care about customer experience. Never using again.

Terrible experience. I had to rent a small moving truck almost two weeks ago and when I arrived for my pick-up, on time, I waited almost an hour. Only one person was working in a tiny little office trying to do the best she could with "supposed" computer issues and more and more customers streaming in. The agent was very slow at her job and did not explain the rental agreement very well. I was misinformed on how the tolls work, as I forgot to bring my iPass with on the trip. Now I need to contact the Illinois Tollway to straighten out the pay by plate tolls before I get fined by Budget! Pay by plate does not post on the iPass website, which I was originally told. Budget uses Plate Pass and gets billed automatically from the IL tollway I learned. Total moneymaking scam, in my opinion, so they can fine you on top of billing you for tolls. I should have gone with U-Haul. Never using Budget again and this location is terrible. Horrible experience. Shameful. I will be posting on additional online review platforms until Budget makes things right.

Nie wieder!!

Wir haben im Oktober über Check24 über BSP-Auto und da über Budget einen Mietwagen in Irland gebucht. Mal ganz zu schweigen davon, dass man uns einen Wagen andrehen wollte, der uMn aufgrund von losen Kunststoffteilen nicht verkehrssicher war, sind wir fassungslos, wie man uns danach behandelt hat.

Leider hatten wir vor Ort einen kleinen Parkunfall mit dem Mietwagen. Der Schadensbetrag wurde abgebucht, aber wir haben bis heute keine Abrechnung bekommen. Da wir bei Check 24 einen Vertrag ohne Selbstbeteiligung abgeschlossen haben, haben wir erwartet, dass bald alles erstattet würde und wir die Abrechnung zugesandt bekommen. Aber weit gefehlt!

Erst auf mehrfaches Nachfragen bei Check24 kam im Januar 25 eine Abrechnung, die völlig falsch war - uns wurde zB eine um 2 Tage verspätete Rückgabe in Rechnung gestellt, die aufgrund von Flugtickets eindeutig widerlegt werden kann - was aber völlig ignoriert wurde. Auch wurde uns eine angeblich nicht erfolgte Betankung in Rechnung gestellt, unsere Tankquittung wurde dabei ebenfalls ignoriert. Der Füllstand des Tanks bei Übergabe war laut vorliegendem Mietvertrag 2/8, in der Abrechnung wurde der Tank bei Übergabe als voll ausgewiesen.

Letztendlich wären wir auf über 250€ sitzen geblieben, wäre nicht Check24 eingesprungen und hätte uns den Betrag nach 4 Monaten auf Kulanz erstattet. Demnächst werde ich bei einer Mietwagenbuchung darauf achten, dass weder BSP noch Budget involviert sind.

A National Company run like a kid's lemonade stand

This is a National Company that is run like a kid's lemonade stand. If everything goes exactly right then it's okay, but if there's a problem they fall right on their face.

This is the real world and there are often hiccups. It's just not worth the potential hassle to save a couple of bucks. I DO NOT recommend.

Overcharge

When I picked up the car the clerk asked about insurance coverage and offered full, medium or basic coverage. I said basic coverage. When we returned the car the bill was way more than expected so I contacted the company and turns out they charged me full coverage for insurance. $170.00 more than the basic coverage. When I spoke with the company representative he said to call back in a couple days. Not sure how this will turn out but as of right now I'm jumping through hoops to try to resolve the overcharge.

​Sconsiglio vivamente il noleggio presso la stazione di Bologna Aeroporto. Mi è stata addebitata una penale di 100€ per "pulizia straordinaria" e presunti danni basati su prove totalmente infondate e un comportamento del personale inaccettabile:
​Prove false e danni preesistenti: Mi sono state inviate foto di un graffio sulla portiera che NON era presente al momento della riconsegna e che, come dimostra il mio contratto di inizio noleggio, non è stato causato da me.
​Mancanza di trasparenza: L'addetta alla riconsegna è stata estremamente scortese e non ha mai menzionato alcun graffio durante la verifica dal vivo, scambiando invece gesti d'intesa con un collega alle mie spalle.
​Firma difforme: La firma apposta sul verbale finale è palesemente diversa dalla mia firma autografa originale sul contratto, rendendo il documento nullo.
​Incongruenze: Gli interni dell'auto (Renault Clio GZ917PJ) erano puliti; i pochi granelli di pulviscolo dovuti all'aria non giustificano una sanzione.
​Ho già inviato reclamo formale e procederò con il disconoscimento della transazione (chargeback) presso la mia banca e la segnalazione all'AGCM se non riceverò l'annullamento immediato di questo addebito truffaldino.

Systematic Damage Scams in Italy – Beware Even With Full Insurance this rental company in…

I regularly use this rental company in many countries and usually have a good experience. Unfortunately, my experiences in Italy have been consistently negative and very disappointing.

The problems are especially obvious when the rental price is very low but includes expensive full insurance coverage. It feels like the local operators try to generate extra profit from customers who already pay for full insurance.

The cars are delivered with a pre-contract listing existing damages. However, when returning the vehicle, they often claim that old scratches or damages are new, even when no incident occurred. Despite having full insurance with zero liability, they still charge insurance claims. This is a matter of principle: why should customers accept unfair charges just because insurance covers them?
This damages the customer’s reputation for future rentals, while the company collects insurance money and often does not even repair the vehicles.

Most of their fleet in Italy is in poor condition, with visible damage and sometimes even service warning lights on, yet they continue charging customers for “new” damages. Meanwhile, the full insurance often costs 3–4 times more than the rental itself, which makes this behavior even more unacceptable.

When customers raise concerns, no proper answers are provided. At car return, staff often rush customers by saying “I don’t have time now, you can go”, clearly pushing them to leave. Later, damages are reported without the customer being present, which allows them to claim whatever they want.

My advice:
Always carefully check what is written in the contract, take detailed photos and videos before driving, even if you have full insurance, and return the car earlier so you can stay until the inspection is completed in your presence.

Based on my repeated experiences in Italy, I cannot recommend this service there.

E’ stato il mio primo noleggio con Budget. Il motivo della scelta e’ stato fontamentalmente il prezzo che ho trovato il piu conveniente rispetto ad altri noleggiatori. E poi il fatto che l’ufficio di ritiro si trova in aeroporto, cosa per me molto importante. Mi e’ stata data una Citroen C3 come da prenotazione. Al check-in sono stato servito dal Sig. Luca. Persona molto gentile, preparata e cordiale che mi ha dato tutte le spiegazioni in modo dettagliato e preciso. Il ritiro del veicolo e’ stato abbastanza veloce. Dopo pochi giorni dal ritiro ho incominciato ad avvertire problemi alla guida in quanto la macchina tendeva ad andare verso sinistra (probabilmente un problema di convergenza). Onde evitare problemi, mi sono recato nuovamente in aeroporto per chiedere un cambio di mezzo. Qui ho incontrato Alessandro, persona molto simpatica e gentile che mi ha assistito con professionalita’. Mi sono poi dovuto recare nuovamente all’ufficio Budget per modificare il contratto dove ho ritrovato il Sig. Luca che, con la sua gentilezza e cortesia, ha emesso la nuova pratica. Mi e’ stata consegnata una Renault Clio abbastanza nuova, con tutti I comfort e in perfette condizioni. Data la mia esperienza positiva con I vostri servizi e con il Vostro personale, terro’ in considerazione Budget per il mio prossimo noleggio auto

Budget car rental company stole my money after I returned the car and left Saudi Arabia.
facts:
I am writing to formally report an unauthorized and unexplained credit card theft by Budget Car rental company operating at King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah, and to request your assistance in referring this matter to the Airport Police / Airport Security.

Key facts of the case:
Rental location: King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah
Rental company: Budget Car Rental (airport branch)
Pickup date: January 10
Return date: January 17 (to Madinah aiport Budget car rental).

All rental fees and security deposit were paid in full at the time of pickup , as reserved

After leaving Saudi Arabia and having no further contact with the vehicle or the rental company, I discovered that:

On February 3, my bank account shows a theft of USD 1,600 made by the rental company

This charge was made more than two weeks after the vehicle was returned and after I had already departed the country

I did not authorize this charge, received no explanation, invoice, or notice, and there was no damage or outstanding payment at the time the vehicle was returned.

I have attached screenshots of my bank statement showing the unauthorized charge for your reference.

Given that this rental company operates inside the airport, I respectfully request:

That this complaint be formally recorded,

That it be forwarded to Airport Police / Airport Security for review, and

That I be provided with a case or reference number to support my credit card dispute and any further legal or administrative action.

Please advise on the next steps and any additional information required from my side.

I rented a vehicle from Budget at the SLC airport and they scammed me out of $800

I rented a vehicle from Budget at the Salt Lake City airport in November 2025 and returned it on time without any issues. The attendant inspected the car and confirmed everything was good to go. Three weeks later, I received an unexpected email from “BudgetAtlanta” claiming damage to the vehicle and demanding payment. Confused by the out-of-state contact, I called Budget’s customer service line and spent over two hours on hold and speaking with multiple representatives across departments. None of them could locate any record of the claim or validate the email, so I dismissed it as potential phishing.

A month after that, a charge matching the email’s amount appeared on my credit card. I immediately contacted Budget again, but once more, their systems showed no evidence of the claim or damage. Frustrated, I disputed the charge with my bank as fraud. Budget contested the dispute, stating the damage was discovered later when the car was moved to the wash bay—after it was already out of my possession. They provided photos of significant damage that I believe could not have occurred during my rental, as I would have noticed and reported it immediately. My bank suggested I follow up directly with Budget’s claims department, but despite more than 10 calls and several emails (including one requesting a specific time to reach them), I never received a response or resolution.

In my experience, this process highlighted severe disorganization in their customer service and claims handling. I feel their practices are unreliable and have led me to decide never to rent from Budget again. As someone who oversees travel bookings for my company, I’ll also ensure we avoid them in the future to prevent similar headaches for others. Potential customers should be cautious, especially with post-return damage claims.

zero stars for budget

If I could rate it as zero stars I would. Were do I start:

1. Waited over an hour at the hire desk at Nice airport and then given a much smaller class car than hired - nothing else available.

2. Car then broke down (luckily at our destination). Rang budget - told someone would be with me within an hour. Finally next day recovery truck arrived to recover the car.

3. Had to then get a taxi back to pick up a replacement vehicle from budget - budget only partially funded this fare.

My post holiday complaint had now been ignored for over a month by Budget. I hire cars a few times a year and have never had an experience like this - possibly the worst customer service I’ve ever had bar none.

I will now avoid Budget at all costs. What a shambles.

they charged a $26 convience fee to pay my toll.

Beware I got a $6 tool in Chicago (they don't staff tool booths anymore) and i got a $6 charge on my credit card for the toll and a $26 dollar convience fee for paying my toll. I also had a $1 toll for indiana and a $6.95 convience fee from budget for paying it. BEWARE THIS IS THE WAY THEY DO BUSINESS NOW. also take pic of gas gage they have been charging people even when they fill up.

Une pesadilla real!

Alquile un coche 2 días para pasear de noche con mi familia a var las luces de Navidad en Pozuelo y Madrid.
Todo bien... pero vi movimientos de retiro con mi tarjeta bancaria. Escribí un email a Atención al cliente y un otro y nada.
Entonces fui a la oficina (Majadahonda) y descubrí que me cargaron un daño de un neumático por un corte!!! Yo estoy seguro porque lo revise que cuando deje el coche el domingo 04/01 a las 18:00 todo estaba ok.
- 1ra nota: la oficina esta cerrada los domingos entonces se devuelve la llave en la recepción del hotel sin ninguna otra formalidad...
- 2da nota: no tienen un parqueo privado sino la calle...
- 3ra nota: entre las 18:00 del domingo y las 9 del dia siguiente que el personal empieza su semana laboral van 15 horas donde puede pasar cualquiera cosa con el coche...
Entonces me han pegado ese daño (soy el ultimo en haber alquilado ese coche) y con las tarifas especiales que practican el neumático nuevo me costo 289 €!!!
Y todo eso sin pruebas reales. Sus palabras contra la mía, eso es!
