tunnel-rat
was patched in #1121 to fix HMR issues, preventing us from upgrading the library. There is no real imperative to upgrade, but I just remembered it and was curious if it works fine without it -- Vite has gone through a lot of changes in the meantime. It seems to work fine, so we might as well drop it. If we run into the HMR issue, we can try the solution mentioned here, namely pulling the tunnel into its own module and importing that. We only have two, so it would be trivial.
