Look at this drawing my fantastic niece made for me! (Not sure how I feel about her being so well acquainted with my fondness for Bering and Wells, but I suppose that’s the price of having real conversations…) She gave me permission to share it, and anyway I’m too proud of her to keep her lovely gesture to myself.

You don’t have a green thumb, but you decide to try one last time to grow a plant - and promptly forget about it. You step outside and nearly faint from shock when you see the healthiest plants you’ve ever seen. And then you get hit by a squirt from your neighbor’s water gun.
Myka goes on a supposedly easy artifact retrieval in a house in the suburbs with Helena. She won’t believe Claudia’s theory about a ghost being involved, no matter how much it seems like they are stuck in a haunted house! Claudia, Helena and Pete have watched too many horror movies, that’s all. Myka is sure of it.

From there, I came to the conclusion that Helena’s dæmon would change with both Christina’s death and her bronzing, and then I wondered how the Janus Coin would affect someone with a dæmon. And here’s the result! I’ve thrown in a Claudia whose dæmon, despite Claudia being over twenty, hasn’t settled yet - it just felt right to me.
Workaholic Myka Bering and superior Helena Wells are the jilted other people in a Christmas romcom who meet trying to catch the first flight out of the quaint little town of Clement. However, escaping other people’s Christmas romances will not be that easy.
Myka is sent on an undercover assignment: she has to pretend to be married to Helena, living in a small town in the middle of nowhere as they search for the artifact causing havoc in the area.

They even inspire Helena to explore a new avenue that helps her work through her conflicted emotions.

Something that was on my mind the other night - where does (or doesn’t) Helena feel at home? Angsty first chapter, resolved in the second.
I got tired of watching us burn down. So I built a fire escape.
Hi.
I’ve been on the hellsite for ten ye….uh. You know what? my fair share.
I’ve watched us go from internet friends to “content sources” for algorithms. I’ve watched the platforms we made good with our creativity turn around and sell us out to the highest bidder. Or worse: get victimized themselves.
And I’m sick of it. I’m frustrated with the binary choice of bowing to our corporate overlords or unplugging my router. So…I stopped asking for permission. I stopped waiting for a savior. And I started building.
Here’s my bona fides, and a bit of a truth dump: some of you know me from way back when and a certain [barely anonymous] renewal campaign for Warehouse 13. I built the code. I made the twitter bot. I hosted the survey. I sent the email to NBC.
That was me 12 years ago.
Since then I moved to Silicon Valley and worked for Apple for almost a decade. I left a few months ago. And if you want to know why this isn’t something I started while I was there?
I left for a reason.
I was legally not allowed to build open-source anything the whole time.
So I left. And I reflected. And this is the result of that reflection.

Also say whether you’re willing to open your askbox to anonymous messages or if you’d prefer courrier service to speak to your secret gifter.
On December 25th, you’ll receive the username of someone else who signed up; this is your giftee! You should also double-check that your inbox is open and accepting anonymous messages on this day if you’re participating that way.
Between December 25th and New Years, January 1st, you will anonymously communicate with your giftee to receive prompts about what type of fandom stuff you make and what type of gift they might like to receive. You’ll also give prompts, if you have any, to your gifter! If at any point you have questions about how to do this, reach out to me.
You will then have from January 1st until Valentine’s Day, February 14th, to create a gift, and they’ll all be posted on tumblr on the 14th!

Summary: Myka found a way for Helena to experience weightlessness… Without paying for a parable flight, that is!
“Glitter, rainbows and flannel, the perfect lesbian outfit! And don’t say that this is another case of television getting it wrong – I looked up pictures from past pride events.”
“I didn’t say you got it wrong!” Myka can feel her cheeks heat, and knows it’s only a matter of time until Helena notices –
“Ohh. You like this look then, darling, is that it?” Looking quite smug, Helena stalks towards her.
…Myka can’t deny that she enjoys the feeling of flannel against her skin – though not as much as that of Helena’s lips pressed against hers.
I deeply respect how insistent Warehouse 13 was that Pete and Myka are not now, nor will they ever be romantically or sexually interested in one another. They’re best friends that regard each other like siblings and respond to every insinuation of non-platonic interest with abject horror. It stands its ground that just because your leads are two people of different genders doesn’t mean it needs to be a slowburn. Plus the very cool result from this dynamic where the most popular ship is two women whose history is fraught with betrayal which is pretty awesome.
Ok I gotta ask — how many of you as kids kind of pressed up against the TV and hoped you’d find out that the glass on the TV was suddenly very fluid and you could stick your hand into it and climb through and enter the world on the other side of that glass?
Because I was totally that kid. And I maybe still am. Which might be why I laughed so hard at this ep.
Steve winced a little at Myka as he said the words. He knew they were the truth, but he also knew that Myka wouldn’t be receptive to this particular truth. Their relationship had always been a little too close to siblings, like the one he had with Claudia.
She stared up at the face — her face, paused in the swirling mist of…whatever that was, and the look she was giving her partner. He’d seen it before, of course, many times — that fondness and comfort — and it struck him that this was probably the first time Myka had ever seen how *happy* she could be.
“Oh my god I’m in love with—”
“STOP!”
Steve looked toward the foreign voice and gasped when he saw a woman crawling through a tiny shimmering portal on the other side of the room.
“What the…”
“Don’t say another word, Jinksy!”
Steve stood, frowned, and wondered if that creepy feeling of awkward familiarity was anything like one of Pete’s vibes. ”How do you know who I am?”
“And how did you get in here?!” Myka asked.
Steve looked to Mrs. Frrederic who, stoic as ever, said nothing. That also creeped him out a little, because that usually means she expected events to unfold in exactly this way. A little heads up would be nice once in a while.
“My name doesn’t matter. I just need to stop this. This is wrong. Myka LOVES Pete, sure, but she’s not IN love with him.”
“Okay…you clearly know us somehow. Awkward. But…look at her face. And…I don’t know how you would have, but have you seen Pete lately?”
“Yeah you may need to dunk him in goo or something. I’m pretty sure he’s been whammied. Just look at his hair.”
“It looks like it did when I met him…except maybe a little messier.”
“And Myka, when does his hair look like that?”
Myka, still frowning and looking a little gut-punched, answered. ”When something is wrong. He’s very particular about his hair.”
“And something is definitely wrong.”
Steve turned to Mrs. Frederic.
“The Fourth Wall has been broken. You are The Observer.”
“What’s an Observer?” Steve asked.
“The Warehouse has many mysteries, Agent Jinks. This is one of them. That portal is to another dimension, and our visitor is here to…for lack of a better way of putting it, fix a wrong before it occurs.”
“You’re damn right I am.” replied the woman, almost at a yell. "Myka is NOT in love with Pete.“
Steve frowned and started to point upward, at the still-shimmering image of a wistful-looking Myka, but his fellow agent beat him to it.
“I look in love enough up there. If I were someone else, I would agree with Steve.”
“Myka….have you ever seen what you look like when you’re happy before? You’ve made that face at Claudia.”
Steve was hit, suddenly, with the truth of that statement, and a sadness followed — Myka was a beautiful woman when she was happy. If she’s never seen that….how could she know?
“That’s…not a lie,” he supplied, looking over at his friend.
“But…I mean, I feel…”
The Observer exhaled, frustrated. ”Fine. Let’s do this the hard way.” Two steps forward, her hand slammed onto the table.
Myka’s image disappeared, and in its place years of memories flittered through. In each, Myka was smiling or laughing or punching Pete, but when the scene finally slowed enough to understand what was going on, Steve felt his heart drop.
This was a scene that never happened…and yet they all knew it did.
He watched as H.G. Wells did before his eyes what Artie had only ever been able to describe and lay down her life to save his friends. He watched as Helena said goodbye to her best friend and…
Oh.
Oh, God.
The scene stopped on Myka’s face, smiling through pain, but the look was unmistakeable.
“Oh, my god.”
Steve looked over to Myka, whose eyes were filled with tears and whose hand was over her mouth.
“I’m…I’m in love with Helena.”
“FINALLY!”
The Observer threw her hands in the air, walked back to the shimmering portal, and climbed back through it. Moments later, it disappeared entirely.
“Steve…I’m in love with Helena.”
Se looked once more to Myka’s wobbliy misty face, then back doen to a less-misty version of it.
