Alaan "SexyBamboe" Faraj (also known as Bamboe) (January 20, 1992 – December 10, 2021) was a Dutch player who last played for Team Bald Reborn.
He passed away on December 10, 2021.[1]
Early career and mousesports
[edit]
SexyBamboe started his Dota 2 career playing for LowLandLions, a Dutch team formerly known as GoD in DotA. He then moved to mousesports in January 2012, eventually playing in The International 2012 through the Wildcard qualifiers. mousesports later dropped their roster, who played as Team Zero, before Mousesports signed them back. However, SexyBamboe was nort part of this team, as he joined Absolute Legends and was replaced by paS.
After not getting much traction on Absolute Legends, he later joined Evil Geniuses in April 2013. With the North American giants, Tier 1 glory eluded him, often losing to former team mousesports and upstarts Kaipi. He was eventually replaced by Universe, and Bamboe joined Super Strong Dinosaurs for the rest of the year.
In February 2014, he joined Zephyr, a western team looking to take part in the South Korean scene. Zephyr initially found success in South Korea, but failed to qualify for The International 2014 through the Southeast Asia qualifiers, and the Korean scene eventually petered out. On September 2014, SexyBamboe announced that he would be leaving Zephyr and Korea, citing that the Korean scene had not developed as he had hoped.[2]
Various European stacks
[edit]
In April 2015, he joined 4 Clover & Lepricon, a loose stack of players in the European and CIS regions, although he was consistently the team's offlaner throughout. The team, however, failed to qualify to The International 2015 through the Europe Open Qualifiers, won by Yellow Submarine. They did, however, manage to secure second at Game Show Global eSports Cup Season 1.
In April 2016, he joined Kaipi, reuniting himself with former mousesports teammate SingSing, and switching to soft support. Playing alongside the likes of zai and 33, Kaipi became a favourite of many, but success was hard to come by, failing to qualify for any major tournament, and losing to the Lebanese team E-LAB in The International 2016 Open Qualifiers.
Later career and streaming
[edit]
In September 2017, he joined HellRaisers as their offlaner, with 33 shifting to carry. However, this experiment did not work, and he later left the team and 33 returned to his offlane role. He later played for Kingdra on and off, as well as for the Netherlands for WESG.
Around this time, he began his streaming career, eventually becoming a full-time streamer. He frequently played alongside former teammate SingSing and popular streamer Gorgc.
Alaan was known as a passionate Dota scene veteran, legendary player, and content creator. He touched the lives of many people, with his positive energy, joy, and when you knew that you needed a break, Alaan was there to bring smiles, with his unique way of throwing unthrowable games.
