Yellow Submarine
From Liquipedia Dota 2 Wiki
Yellow Submarine is a Russian Dota 2 team that was initially formed to compete in The International 2015 European Open Qualifiers. The team lacked stability, shuffling through many players throughout 2015 and 2016, and eventually became defunct in 2017.
In 2020, the team was rebuilt from scratch, with several trialists taking part. Eventually, the roster began to take shape, and after several promising performances, was signed by Team Spirit later that year. Four of the five — Yatoro, TORONTOTOKYO, Collapse and Miposhka — would go on to win The International 2021, and Yatoro, Collapse and Miposhka would also win The International 2023.
Since 2023, the roster has been rebuilt twice around young, relatively-unknown talent. The first rebuild featured 15-year-old Russian prodigy Satanic, qualifying to Elite League Season 2 and becoming a dark horse in the Eastern European region. Satanic and teammate rue were then signed by Team Spirit, replacing Yatoro and Mira.
The roster was pseudo-rebuilt in 2025 after manager Korb3n became the manager of BanyaPivoSamogon, another team of relatively-inexperienced young players. After qualifying to PGL Wallachia Season 3, the roster was transferred to Yellow Submarine.
History
[edit]Early history
[edit]Yellow Submarine first entered the scene in early-2015, featuring Miposhka, Barash, Dale, PSM and Fervian. Throughout 2015 and 2016, the team was a regular in smaller tournaments, but success was rare, and the team ended up shuffling frequently. By 2017, the roster was as good as defunct.
Foundations of Team Spirit
[edit]In 2020, Yellow Submarine was rebuilt ahead of the OMEGA League: East Europe Qualifiers, featuring Yatoro, Nattynarwhal, Ninja Cat, kaori and Kidaro. The roster continued to shuffle, adding mio (later renaming himself TORONTOTOKYO), Collapse and so bad. Yellow Submarine continued to try out multiple hard supports in addition to Kidaro, and eventually settled on Miposhka, returning to the team five years on. This squad began to show signs of promise, qualifying for ESL One Germany 2020 and finishing 3rd-4th at DOTA Summit 13 Online: Europe and CIS.
In December 2020, the promising roster was signed by Team Spirit. Under this larger organisation, four of the five — Yatoro, TORONTOTOKYO, Collapse and Miposhka — would go on to win The International 2021. TORONTOTOKYO then departed for BetBoom Team, but the remaining roster stuck together, and won The International 2023.
2023 rebuild with Satanic
[edit]In 2023, Yellow Submarine was revived, featuring 15-year-old Russian prodigy Satanic.[1] Team Spirit manager Korb3n wanted the team to be sponsored by his organisation, but ESL rules did not permit multiple teams under the same ownership to play in the same tournament, so he was in the process of creating a separate legal entity (with himself as CEO) so that this could happen.[2] Despite missing Team Spirit's support, in 2024, the revived Yellow Submarine roster showed promise, finishing 5th-6th in Pinnacle 25 Year Anniversary Show, beating teams like SIBE Team and Natus Vincere along the way. The team also proved to be highly-competitive in qualifiers, frequently reaching the top 4, including a close loss in the Elite League: Eastern Europe Closed Qualifier to an experienced 9Pandas team. However, actual qualification to a tournament remained elusive, with Yellow Submarine falling in the later stages of qualifiers.
Their performances put them firmly in contention as a dark horse in the Riyadh Masters and The International qualifiers. However, Eastern Europe only had one qualifier slot in both qualifiers, and Yellow Submarine would face tough opposition from the likes of Virtus.pro, Natus Vincere and 1win. In the Riyadh Masters qualifiers, 1win crushed Yellow Submarine in the first round, a surprise result given the teams had been equally-matched throughout the season. Yellow Submarine managed to claw their way through the Lower Bracket, getting their revenge over 1win in the Lower Bracket Semifinal, but were eliminated in the Lower Bracket Final by Natus Vincere. This was followed by The International qualifiers, where Yellow Submarine instead made a strong start, beating L1GA TEAM and 9Pandas without dropping a single game. However, they ran into nemesis 1win once again in the Upper Bracket Final, who once again beat them 0-2. This was followed by a 1-2 loss to 9Pandas in the Lower Bracket Final, where Yellow Submarine's inexperience showed: In the decisive game, despite Yellow Submarine taking an advantage, they lost the Aegis of the Immortal during a teamfight, causing them to lose the teamfight, all momentum, and eventually the game and series.
Despite a disappointing end to the season, Yellow Submarine regrouped for the Elite League Season 2 qualifiers. With a new patch, and the absence of Virtus.pro and Natus Vincere, this was the team's best opportunity to qualify to a major tournament. The team started with a 2-1 win over 9Pandas, and revenge over 1win in the next stage. Against L1GA TEAM, the team made two late-game comebacks to win 2-0, setting up a Grand Final against 1win once again. After taking a 2-0 lead, they lost game 3, then suffered a technical defeat in game 4.[3] Game 5 saw them slip behind in the early game, then bleed out further as the game went on. However, a decisive late-game Roshan Pit fight saw 1win's lack of damage exposed, allowing Yellow Submarine to secure a dieback on CHIRA_JUNIOR's Windranger, and Yellow Submarine took advantage of this narrow timing window to end the game. This secured the rebuilt roster's first appearance at a LAN. At Elite League Season 2, however, the team struggled, eliminated in the Swiss Stage with a 2-3 score. Team Liquid coach Blitz commented that Yellow Submarine seemingly hadn't evolved as fast as they should have over the past few months.
In the The International 2024 reshuffles, Satanic and rue left to join Team Spirit, and the roster disbanded. Months after the disband, in an interview with asdekor_r, he stated that towards the end, he felt like the roster had grown somewhat tired of each other, and that Satanic and rue would inevitably have received offers as the most promising players on the team.[4]

In 2025, Korb3n, manager of Yellow Submarine, began to manage BanyaPivoSamogon, another stack containing relatively-inexperienced players ififall, mrls and Htrd, and relative veterans nesfeer and re1bl. The stack showed promise amongst the volatile Eastern European qualifiers scene, and managed to qualify to PGL Wallachia Season 3 with an upset win over NAVI Junior. The stack was then transferred to Yellow Submarine soon after.
