Alex Valle (formerly known as "CaliPower") is a Peruvian-born American Fighting Games player and tournament organizer.

He is known as one of the most influential personalities in the history of the North American fighting game community, having won many of the biggest Street Fighter tournaments from as early as 1996. His contributions to the genre extend beyond his achievements as a player, as he played a big role in the creation of key events such as Wednesday Night Fights, SoCal Regionals and ReveLAtions.[1]

Biography

[edit]

Alex grew up playing fighting games in the arcades in Los Angeles, California. In 1996, he won the Street Fighter Alpha 2 tournament at Battle by the Bay (which is now known as EVO) against John Choi, coining his own combo called the “Valle CC”, an unblockable executed while the opponent is rising.[2]

Alex was also the first American to play against Daigo Umehara in a tournament after the two faced off at the Street Fighter Alpha 3 World Championships in 1998. He would later win the Street Figher III: 3rd Strike and Street Fighter Alpha 2 tournaments at the second Battle by the Bay in 2000.

He currently serves as an organizer for various event series, although he still competes occasionally.
