[edit]Biography
[edit]Amateur debut
[edit]Massu debuted in Summer 2022 as part of the Team Pending mixteam, playing alongside the more experienced Kitzuo and RobbyBob. Seeded highly, the team directly qualified for the First Closed Qualifier. Massu's first B-tier tournament kicked off with a 2- victory over CLG Faith and a second place in Group C. In playoffs, Massu's team managed to beat Evil Geniuses Prodigies in the quarterfinals, taking down yet another LCS amateur division. A loss against Cincinnati Fear saw Massu place 3-4th on debut. Despite a 0-2 loss against 100 Thieves Next in the second closed qualifier, Team Pending qualified for the 2022 Summer Proving Grounds. With 0-2 losses against Team Liquid Academy and 100 Thieves Next, Massu's A-tier debut ended in 13-16th place.
FlyQuest Challengers
[edit]On December 21st, 2022, the new roster of FlyQuest Challengers was announced, which set Massu up to compete alongside Philip, Yuuji, Spirax and Winsome.[1] 4 Weeks in, they found themselves in the middle of the pack. Through the later weeks, FlyQuest Challengers stepped up their game to improve their seeding heading into playoffs. With victories against Immortals Challengers, AOE Gold and Wildcard Gaming, Massu's team managed to place 5-6th following a close 2-3 loss against Cincinnati Fear. During the 2023 Summer season, FlyQuest finished second in the group stage but ultimately fell short in playoffs with a 1-3 loss against Evil Geniuses Challengers. Despite playing remotely, Massu was awarded the "Most Valuable Prospect" award for the 2023 NACL Summer Season. [2]
Promotion & International Debut
[edit]Following just a single year on the academy roster, Massu was promoted to the main team to play alongside Bwipo, Inspired, Jensen and Busio. [3] During LCS Spring, Massu gained a single MVP in a game against 100 Thieves, going 6/1/7 while playing Varus. The team finished first in playoffs and despite beating Team Liquid 3-2 and Cloud9 3-0, eventually finished second following a 1-3 defeat against Team Liquid in the finals. As a rookie, Massu gained a 3rd All-Pro Team award alongside teammate Jensen and the second place guaranteed an international debut at MSI 2024. FlyQuest and Massu were unable to impress at MSI, losing against T1 and PSG Talon and failing to make it past the play-in stage.
Heading into summer, FlyQuest promoted Quad to replace Jensen. [4] Despite losses against Team Liquid and Cloud9 in the group stage, FlyQuest stepped it up and beat both of these teams to become LCS Summer champions, giving Massu a first ever S-tier tournament championship and a first seed invite to Worlds 2024. Massu was then awarded the "Rookie of the Year" award for the 2024 LCS. [5] Despite the wider community not expecting a North American team to make it to the Knockout Stage at Worlds, victories against GAM Esports and PSG Talon and a rematch against Team Liquid saw FlyQuest qualify for quarterfinals. While facing the MSI 2024 champions Gen.G Esports, FlyQuest managed to lead the series, taking the match point before Gen.G. Despite eventually losing 3-2 to finish 5-8th at Worlds, Massu stood out with deathless games on Ashe and Kai'Sa, going 6/0/5 and 11/0/8, respectively.
