Biography

[edit]

In April 2022, Sonix placed 5th at Pound 2022, becoming the first Dominican in history to reach top 8 of a major for any Super Smash Bros. game.

At CEO 2022, Sonix made a historic losers run. After being knocked into the losers bracket by Toast in game 5 of the first winners round of Top 32, he proceeded to 3-0 seven consecutive opponents (including Fatality, Tweek, Dabuz, and eventually Toast himself in Losers Finals) to reach Grand Finals. This culminated with a game 10 victory against Riddles, making Sonix the first Dominican player to win a major tournament, and the first player to do so using solo Sonic.

Sonix won his first P-Tier tournament at Port Priority 8 where he beat Big D, Onin, Kola, acola, and Miya (x2) on his path to first place. This was the first time a Sonic player had won a supermajor.

At Supernova 2024, Sonix was sent to losers by Snow in Round 3 Pools. In the resulting losers run, he beat Light, Miya, Tweek, acola, Raru, Asimo and SHADIC before losing to Sparg0 for second place.

From October 2023 to September 2024, Sonix reached Grand Finals of every major tournament that he entered. After 11 events, the streak ended at Riptide 2024 where he placed 3rd, being double eliminated by Shuton. For Sonix, 2024 would also be marked by a "Second Place curse", as, of all eleven offline tournaments he entered during the year (all ranked National or above), he would reach Grand Finals of eight, including six supermajors, yet fail to take first place every time; as a result, he ultimately failed to win a single offline tournament in 2024 despite impressive consistency. Although 2025 started with a first place at the National Afterburner, it was followed in the next months by somewhat inconsistent results, including a 17th place at Genesis X2; although he would regain his past consistency from May onwards, he would once again suffer a "Second Place curse" with five consecutive 2nd places at prominent tournaments, including two supermajors, KOWLOON #16 and Get On My Level: Forever, and two majors, EugegeBound: Summers and Luminosity Makes Moves Miami 2025; he would finally place first at the supermajor Port Priority 9 in November without dropping a set, his first major win since The Coinbox IRL in December 2023 and first supermajor win since Port Priority 8 two years prior.

Sonix joined Bandits Gaming on June 28, 2020.[1] He parted ways with Bandits Gaming February 26, 2023.[2] He joined Luminosity Gaming as part of their free agent sponsorship program on September 29, 2023.[3] He signed as a full member of Luminosity Gaming on December 7, 2023.[4]
