New binder new binder new binder new binder

Ironically, the new binder I bought is a size up from my regular size, and yet it flattens even better (perhaps because new? But it still seems like it flattens more than my regular binders do when new as well).

Definitely excited to try out the racerback for exercise. Not a huge fan of the fact that it only comes in half tank style because I usually wear full tank, but if it works well for motion then whatever.

Friendly reminder that if use my referral link to buy from gc2b, you’ll get $5 off.

By the way, gc2b has a referral/rewards program

I literally forget this all the time, but if you’re looking to buy a new gc2b binder and you don’t already have an account, you can use >my referral link< to get $5 off!

Anonymous asked: My mom won’t let me get a binder. She thinks it’s unsafe, especially with my asthma (it’s extremely mild) do you have any advice on how to convince her they can be safe? Obviously I’ve looked into this and I know how to wear it safely. (No sleeping or exercising, don’t get it too small, don’t double bind, don’t get it wet, etc) Help me!!

gc2b:

Sometimes it reassures parents to go through these safety guidelines together and assure them that you understand the proper way to bind, and how important it is to adhere to the guidelines. It can also help to go through the “Binder Basics” page we have to show them how carefully and seriously you (and we) are taking appropriate binding etiquette and sizing. Just in case you need them,

Here’s a link to our “Safety” FAQ category

Know your limits! You’re invited to talk to your doctor about it too. There’s no way to force parents to change their minds, but just being informed can do a great deal for people who feel “in the dark” about a subject and therefore apprehensive. You can talk to your mom about how it’s important to your mental health and your relationship for her to try to understand from your perspective, if you are comfortable. Others with experience having the same conversation might be able to inform you too. Best wishes!

You can collaborate on safety measures with each other, too. Something like “I’ll keep a spare sports bra with me in my bag/in the car/in my locker/wherever and if I have trouble breathing, I’ll go to a bathroom or other private place and change” might be reassuring or may be a difficult-to-argue-against precaution.

Anonymous asked: Sorry, I know this is a bit off topic. Do you know anything or know anyone who talks about binding with ehlers danlos syndrome or hypermobility spectrum disorders? Thanks

xenoqueer:

I don’t know much about hypermobility, but I did find these two threads by trans masc people who have EDS and bind.

The general gist of the conversations seems to be that light compression binding probably won’t cause any trouble, but that you’re better off with alternatives, such as kinesio tape, sports undershirts and wearing loose or flouncy tops, especially when paired with tighter pants or a stiff jacket (think Bowie in Labyrinth).

If you have access to a doctor who you feel safe discussing this kind of thing with, though, I sincerely recommend talking to them about it. They’ll know more about your condition and limitations than I do.

On the one hand, my shoulder hurts a fuckton and I assume it’s because I must’ve slept weird last night, but I am also concerned it’s related to the pinched nerve I’ve had for almost a year now that I haven’t been able to see a professional about because my school life makes doctors highly inconvenient.

On the other hand, I successfully figured out how to bind with athletic tape (after a terrible and very itchy first attempt a couple days ago) with quite a lot of success. I feel comfortable enough investing in extra wide tape now but the type I wanted to get might not ship to me before the end of the semester if I buy it now, so I’m at a bit of a loss and I guess I’ll stick with what I have plus my incoming sample pack from transtape. (But I also bought a new binder because I am a material person who likes having things)
