hi tumblr i forgot to post about it but i have a lil website that selects a new album every day for you to listen to!

albums are selected out of submissions made by other people, and everyone gets the same album everyday. its just something i made so i can get more organic, left-field, weird recommendations that an algorithm would never suggest

so please, if you have the time, please submit your favorite weird music here. there’s like over 400 (!!!!) albums submitted so far, but more is always better :D

you can also go through the history to find some albums that have been highlighted on previous days

jesus this post isnt even half an hour old and there’s 200 new submissions

thanks everyone :3 i hope u can find some cool music through this website and expand your tastes !

i have a bot on fedi and on twitter that makes a post once a day with that day’s album, which imo is the best way to keep up to day with the recommendations. i’ve been informed tumblr supports bots too, so ill make one and post a link to it once i figure out how that works this afternoon ^-^

hi gangy, as promised i’ve set the bot up :3

you can follow it at @albumoftheday-versary-town ! its gonna make only one post a day, containing that day’s album with the link

Absolutely fucking obsessed with Mother Mother’s album Oh my Heart.

I accidentally had two instances of Body playing and the cacophony was just like “yes, this is indeed what the chronic pain feels like.”

One of the most prominent works of the musical group Fall Out Boy is “Immortals”, written for the soundtrack of the film Big Hero 6. The group Imagine Dragons, meanwhile, penned two of their most prominent works for comic-based media as well - “Radioactive”, written for the Spider-Man Broadway musical, and “Sucker for Pain”, written for Suicide Squad.

The initial hypothesis proposed to explain this connection was that all emo-leaning alt rock/pop rock musicians are envious of Gerard Way, a member of My Chemical Romance, who is a successful comic book author.

However, an alternate hypothesis has more recently been made. This suggests that, in fact, all emo alt pop rock musicians are simply “fuckin nerds”. This hypothesis is supported by evolutionary tracing: the song “Kryptonite” was written by alt rock band 3 Doors Down in 1999, predating Gerard Way’s musical career. (At that time, his exclusive intention was to pursue a career in the comic book industry.)

Further research is needed to determine the relative merits of the “Gerard Hypothesis” versus the “Fuckin Nerd Hypothesis”. In this grant proposal I will

I just found out that Tom Paxton parodied his own song and made “George W. Told the Nation” about [modern wars in the middle east], holy shit

For clarity, I knew about “Lyndon Johnson Told the Nation” and only just learned about the modernized version, not the other way around.

Someday I will have the range of the guy from Disturbed.

Also as holy shit as his low range is, his upper range is also fucking batshit. That deserves to be said.

Went looking for some tenor pieces to add to my repertoire and searched for contralto pieces out of curiosity. One song recommended for contralto auditions came with a very emphatic disclaimer about how low it goes, and it sounds like the very bottom of the performer’s voice, but it sits pretty tidily within my low range and is easily obtainable.

It’s fascinating to measure my own vocal journey against the voices and performances of other singers. I feel very affirmed as a tenor and feel so very inclined to stick a very big middle finger at all the resources that claim that “women” fundamentally cannot be tenors because their chest cavity changes the timbre of their sound, hence the distinction between countertenors and contraltos, because I’ve got me pro low marching brass lungs, a great control over chest voice, a low range to rival cis men, and really fucky hormones.

I think the fact that I can successfully perform songs now that previously went under my range is a really good indicator of how fucky my hormones are, though. For context to those who are not aware, I’ve never done Trans Hormones, but I’ve been noticeably undergoing a journey similar to microdosing results ever since I had one of my hormone-producing organs removed, despite medical sources saying it doesn’t work like that (but tangible anecdotal evidence online saying it does).

I read a review of the 2012 Les Mis movie that was super enthusiastic about how authentic the singing was, and how there was absolutely zero autotune.

Everything else aside, there, uh. There is autotune. There is a massive amount of autotune. You just can’t hear it because that’s how autotune works–you’re not meant to hear autotune. “Autotuned” pop songs are actually deliberately sung off-pitch so that the pitch adjustment becomes that much more drastic and obvious. I realize that the vast majority of people don’t have a musician’s ear for music, but there is very much obvious (as in obvious for trained auralists, not obvious for the general populace) autotuning/pitch stabilization during like all the sustains–they’re so unnaturally unwavering and on point. There is very much so autotune used in Les Mis.

Which is fine. People can leave whatever reviews they want on movies, and it’s certainly true that the singing sounds genuine, and that’s really all that matters.

It just hits my detail-oriented sensibilities in a weird way to realize that people think of autotune as that unnatural-sounding thing that pop musicians use instead of being a very subtle tool that, as intended, adjusts pitchiness to be more pleasant sounding. Like people are just genuinely unaware that autotune is a thing that gets constantly used nowadays and it’s not always immediately recognizable and that’s… fine? I realize this just makes me seem like a music snob but like. Autotune does actually work the way it’s supposed to.

  • Grocery list
  • Haunting personal information
