My experience with DAK has been…

My experience with DAK has been extremely negative and financially stressful.

DAK requested my tax declaration, which I submitted immediately and in full. Despite this, I was later informed that the documents were allegedly submitted “too late”. As a result, my monthly insurance premium was unilaterally increased to EUR 897.35, without transparent justification.

I find this practice disproportionate, opaque, and financially damaging. Instead of constructive clarification, customers are pushed into heavy bureaucratic processes, formalistic arguments, and immediate financial consequences.

Anyone insured with DAK should be prepared for extensive administrative disputes and significant stress. My overall impression is that complexity and pressure are used instead of fairness and genuine customer support.

I strongly recommend researching alternatives carefully and keeping thorough written records if you deal with this insurer.

DAK’s systemic premium hikes…

DAK’s recent reply on Trustpilot confirms they monitor feedback but have no access to files and no ability to improve. Without ability to improve or solve issues, the replies here are empty, and the real problems of DAK remain structural.

In my case, DAK suddenly raised my premium from around €200 to more than €900 a month. When I tried to comply with their constant bureaucratic demands, my documents were declared “not trustworthy” unless certified by third parties. After two exhausting years, I received a “Christmas gift” of more than €15,000 in alleged arrears, followed by enforcement action via the Hauptzollamt. This pushed me into a legal dispute at the Sozialgericht, where DAK’s lawyer even argued that my insufficient German language skills were relevant to the case.

DAK’s response to me here shows this was never an isolated incident. If their team cannot even locate “individual files” with such premium hikes, it means these premium hikes have affected so many people that it is no longer possible to find how many individuals have been applied a hike from 200 Euro to 900 Euro a month.

In my experience as a past customer of DAK, they have designed a system that overwhelms vulnerable customers with bureaucracy, inflates their premiums beyond affordability, and then hides behind legal procedures. I strongly urge the social media team to use their platform to push DAK’s management to stop exploiting patients and people who are least able to defend themselves. And I urge DAK to simply stop collecting 15,000 Euro here and there though legal actions from people who once were their customers and who left because of unreasonable premiums hikes.

DAK’s customer handling left me with financial and legal problems no one should ever face. My conclusion remains: I cannot recommend DAK.
