excerpts from the picatrix

“saturn is cold and dry, an unfortunate planet, damaging, author of bad and foul odors, proud and treacherous—when he promises anything, he brings about treachery.”
“truthful words, hope, blackness, old age, buildings, fear, great contemplation, worry, fits of anger, treachery, pain, difficulty, death, inheritances, orphans, ancient places, estimates, keen elocution, the knowledge of secrets, and the secret and profound perceptions of science: he signifies all these things as long as he is direct in his motion. while retrograde, he signifies unfortunate things, weakness or illness, prisons, and a long-lasting evil in all things. if he were in the aspect of any other planet, he weakens and damages it in its qualities. if he were retrograde and you were about to seek something from him, the thing sought will be fulfilled through trouble, misery, and great toil. if he were retrograde in any of his own dignities, his curses are augmented and grow; but if he has potency or dignity on the ascendant, then he will be more harmonious and kindly disposed.”

cosmic witchcraft 101: neptunian magick ♆

phaesphore

Neptune is the 8th and final planet from the Sun. Scientists have had difficulty modeling the formation of the ice giants; a number of hypotheses have been created to explain their existence. Some posit they formed from unstable areas in the protoplanetary disc rather than by core accretion, and that a nearby OB star blasted away their atmospheres early in their formation. Others believe they formed close to the Sun and migrated outwards to their current positions. We can’t be sure if either of these hypotheses are true, but as the spacecraft Juno unlocks some of the solar system’s early secrets from Jupiter’s atmosphere, we may get a few steps closer to understanding exactly how our solar system came to be what it is today.

Facts:

  • Neptune is the only planet in the solar system to be found using math.
  • A Neptunian year is almost 165 Earth years.
  • Neptune undergoes differential rotation, with some parts of its atmosphere rotating in about 12 hours while others rotate in about 16.
  • Neptune’s rings are named after astronomers who made important discoveries about the planet.
  • The Kuiper Belt, a circumstellar disc of small icy/rocky bodies beyond the planets, is highly affected by Neptune’s orbit.
  • Neptune has the strongest sustained winds of any planet in the solar system.

cosmic witchcraft 101: saturnian magick ♄

phaesphore

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun. Like the other gas giants, scientists can’t be exactly sure how Saturn formed, but many believe its breathtaking rings have been there since the very beginning. One theory posits that the rings were once an early moon of Saturn whose orbit brought it closer and closer to Saturn where eventually it was ripped apart by tidal forces; a large collision may also have destroyed it. Another theory suggests that the rings are leftover material from the area of the solar system’s primordial nebula where Saturn formed. The Grand Tack Hypothesis, which explains our solar system’s formation through a theoretical Jovian migration to as far inward as Mars, suggests that Saturn getting locked in orbital resonance with Jupiter during its migration forward prevented Jupiter from going all the way through the inner solar system.

Facts:

  • Saturn is the second largest planet, but the least dense one. Saturn is less dense than water.
  • It takes Saturn 29.7 years to travel around the Sun and about 10.5 hours for a complete Saturnian day.
  • Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, is larger than the planet Mercury. It’s not that much smaller than Mars, and is second in moon size only to Jupiter’s Ganymede.
  • Just about every 30 years, a Great White Spot appears as a storm on Saturn’s atmosphere. The next appearance will be near the year 2020.
  • Saturn has more than 60 moons.
  • When Galileo originally discovered Saturn’s rings, he thought they were two moons on either side of the planet.
  • In 2010, a huge storm appeared on the surface of Saturn - it was so big it wrapped around the entire planet.
  • Saturn is the furthest planet from Earth that can be seen without the aid of a telescope or binoculars.
  • Magnification of about 30x is needed to see Saturn’s rings, which can be achieved with a large pair of binoculars or a small telescope.

etheribot asked

hiii! here's an ask to try and beat the AI! since we're at the start of the new year i'm curious, is there any astrological event happening this year that you're particularly excited about?

both saturn and neptune enter aries in the next few weeks which i’m hoping will light a fire under my ass to be more dedicated to exploring my spirituality and intuitive abilities.

the upcoming new moon in capricorn is going to be really good for me to celebrate my own “new year” since my birthday is this month, albeit the new moon happens 10 days after my birthday.

later on in the year there’s a full moon in scorpio which i think could be interesting.

plus the uranus-neptune-pluto minor grand trine is active from march through september - i loooove me some outer planets!!

thank you marie! ♡

⋆。°✩ saturn, help me navigate the limits and boundaries of life in a way that is always beneficial to me ⋆。°✩

i tend to embrace the vices of the planets i worship and something about that is just beautiful to me.

saturn’s vengeance and neptune’s illusions - absolutely profound.

the moon just hit 100% illumination thus making her full!! though, officially it won’t be counted as full until around 4am (in my timezone) but idc, i am celebrating her anyway. i also view the moon as full on the day before and day after so that’s totally a thing if you want to subscribe to it.
