excerpts from the picatrix
“saturn is cold and dry, an unfortunate planet, damaging, author of bad and foul odors, proud and treacherous—when he promises anything, he brings about treachery.”
“truthful words, hope, blackness, old age, buildings, fear, great contemplation, worry, fits of anger, treachery, pain, difficulty, death, inheritances, orphans, ancient places, estimates, keen elocution, the knowledge of secrets, and the secret and profound perceptions of science: he signifies all these things as long as he is direct in his motion. while retrograde, he signifies unfortunate things, weakness or illness, prisons, and a long-lasting evil in all things. if he were in the aspect of any other planet, he weakens and damages it in its qualities. if he were retrograde and you were about to seek something from him, the thing sought will be fulfilled through trouble, misery, and great toil. if he were retrograde in any of his own dignities, his curses are augmented and grow; but if he has potency or dignity on the ascendant, then he will be more harmonious and kindly disposed.”

sunday morning reset spell ˚⟡˖ ࣪
as sunday approaches, so does our return to work, school, and other responsibilities. i don’t know about you, but sunday used to be my least favorite day of the week for that exact reason. as i’ve grown older, i have started to view sunday as an opportunity to reset my body and brain, purposefully relax, and prepare for the week ahead instead of sitting with my existential dread - i can’t change the responsibilities i have, but i can change the way i view and manage them.
this usually involves waking up early with a cup of coffee, some good tunes or my favorite streamers on the tv, and my favorite scented candle lit while i cleanse and clean my house, wash clothes, shower, and do some self-care in the midst of it all.
even if you don’t have any upcoming obligations or plans, this spell is designed to invite uplifting energy into your space while also promoting relaxation and mental clarity for the caster using solar energy - best performed on sunday morning as the title suggests.
items:
- yellow candle [solar energy, uplifting, clarity] & holder or somewhere to set it safely - you can even use half of an orange!
- chamomile [solar energy, relaxation, calm, peace]
- dried orange peel or zest [solar energy, joy, uplifting, clarity]
instructions:
- no matter the weather, open your curtains and let some natural light into your space.
- take this time to ethereally cleanse the area, whether that’s with sound, incense, a floor wash, whatever you’d like. you can even consider the sunlight coming through your window as an act of cleansing in itself.
- next, set up your candle and light it near the window whose curtains you opened.
- while focusing on the intent of uplifting your mood and promoting mental clarity, sprinkle the dried orange around the candle - you can recite an incantation at this time but i’m so bad at coming up with them that i’m not even gonna try.
- after that, do the same thing with your chamomile, but with the intent of promoting relaxation and peace.
- as you let the candle burn, go about your day - get errands done, meal prep, wash clothes and dishes, sweep, etc. or just take some time to yourself to unwind and be at peace with life, even if it’s just for a few minutes. ♡
- once the candle has burned down, consider the spell complete.
- if you used half an orange as a candle holder, dispose of it in whatever manner you see fit - bury it in the earth, throw it in the trash or your compost bin, whatever. :)
note: orange zest is sweeter and more fragrant than orange peel, which can be bitter so you may want to take that into account.

correspondences: inner planets ✧
as you may have seen me mention, my practice is LARGELY inspired by medieval astrology so i tend to abide by the traditional correspondences from that time period, which happen to have carried on into the modern day.
i said in my previous post that the doctrine of signatures/correspondences has everything to do with likeness, which i oftentimes believe to be true in the case of magical correspondences. it makes sense to me that things that are yellow would be associated with the sun, or that things that are spicy to be associated with mars. but, don’t get me wrong, personal correspondences are 100% just as valid. if it doesn’t resonate with you, then how is it benefitting you?
i want to start this off by saying that i think a lot of modern correspondences for things that AREN’T plants or herbs probably originated around the same time and were inspired by the theories behind herbal medicine, so i just wanna lay down a foundation before diving into my personal experiences with things like colors and crystals.
saturn is the last inner planet that is visible to the naked eye - the discovery of the first outer planet didn’t occur until the 1780s with uranus. correspondences for the outer planets aren’t largely known or available, and while i can’t find a direct source for the origin of the correspondences that do exist, i, once again, believe them to be true.
uranus being associated with rebellion because of its discovery during the revolutionary war. neptune being associated with illusions, distortion, and dreams because of its discovery coinciding with that of the first successful use of modern anesthesia. pluto being associated with extreme transformation and change, the death and rebirth of the self, because it’s named for the god of the underworld. but again, correspondences for ingredients, items, and the rest aren’t as widely mentioned and much of what you can find just boils down to UPG, my own included. but more about them next time. let’s focus on the inner planets for this one.
so how do i come up with all this?
vast research on mythology, folklore, and modern science as well as personal experiences, just like everyone else.
back in the day, it was believed that the stars and planets were responsible for a good chunk of earthly occurrences, including illnesses and other major life events. while astrology is still commonly known and practiced today as a form of divination (to say the least), some of what was considered astrology then is practiced as either astronomy or medicine now.
in terms of astronomy, i am always astounded when comparing the elemental/chemical composition and physical characteristics of the planets to their mythological aspects. like how the dwarf planet ceres is largely made of ice, and is also named for the goddess that froze over the earth in a state of mourning; how saturn’s rings represent its association with restriction and boundaries.
another scientific aspect to my celestial craft is forming correspondences specifically for the elemental makeup of a planet - i have a post about that here.
but let’s talk astrological medicine now. this part is cool and i’m not super well versed in it YET but here we go.
everything has a planetary ruler. plants, herbs, crystals, seasons, times of day, items, objects, trinkets, whatever. even down to your big toe. that’s right. each part of the body has a planetary ruler, and that has a LOT to do with their correspondences - namely herbs because of their physical effects on the body and their use medicinally for that reason.
these associations tend to differ from source to source so do your own research but, in short:
- saturn - right ear, spleen, digestive system, joints/muscles/bones/teeth
- jupiter - left ear, fat, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen
- mars - right nostril, gallbladder, blood, nerves
- sun - right eye, limbs, heart, spine
- venus - kidneys, stomach, endocrine and urinary systems, external reproductive organs
- mercury - brain, plasma, skin, forehead, throat, mouth, tongue
- moon - internal reproductive organs, blood, respiratory system, lymphatic system, mucus membranes, left eye
you may be wondering why - i don’t blame you. here’s a brief rundown on the 4 humors and temperaments: blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile; warm, cold, moist, or dry; sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic.
the humors are defined as chemical systems that regulate human behaviour, and would be the source of illness if they were unbalanced. i don’t wanna get too much into it - i would be here forever. just know that those traits are also assigned to planets (surprise surprise). illnesses associated with those humors could then be attributed to a certain planet (for example, having joint pain as a result of excess cold/dry saturnian energy, relieved with jovian energy that is hot and moist).
- saturn - cold and dry; melancholic
- jupiter - hot and wet; sanguinous
- mars - hot and dry; choleric
- sun - hot and dry; choleric
- venus - cold and wet; phlegmatic
- mercury - cold and wet or hot and dry; phlegmatic/melancholic
- moon - cold and wet; phlegmatic
again, not getting into all that, but it’s said that the illness caused by one temperament would be remedied by its opposite. all of this to say that these remedies and plant characteristics (as well as their growing conditions) are the very foundation for modern herbal correspondences, specifically for the planets in the context of this post (for example, saturn is a malefic planet of boundaries and restrictions so plants that grow in harsh conditions with little sunlight must be related).
i guess the endpoint here is that i tend to believe these correspondences to be valid because of my personal experiences with them. i would dare to say that my acceptance of these traditional correspondences is me forming my own correspondences in the process.
