black hole grounding & release
many practitioners like to use various elements and other sources to ground their excess or negative energy - one of my favorite methods of doing this is black hole grounding. the idea is that the energy you’re trying to ground or get rid of would be compressed into something so small and insignificant that it practically doesn’t exist, instead of just being transferred to another source. this method ideally traps the grounded energy so that it may dissipate, similar to how the force and gravity of a black hole is so strong that not even light can escape it.
method:
- dim the lights
- sit comfortably, whether it be outdoors under the stars or inside - your choice
- feel free to play some ambient music on your computer or phone, perhaps something on youtube with a backdrop of the cosmos
- if you have a crystal you like to use to help you ground, hold onto it
- similarly, light a candle or incense that you like to use to help you ground, if you wish
- do whatever you need to do to get relaxed
- visualize* the energy you wish to ground traveling up your spine, out of the top of your head, and into the cosmos - once you can visualize this energy floating in empty space, imagine it being sucked into a black hole until you can no longer see it
- continue rhythmic breathing until you come back to reality, and go about your day as usual
crystals to aid in black hole grounding:
- astrophyllite
- black calcite
- black obsidian
- black tourmaline
- bronzite
- dolomite
- halite
- hematite
- lodestone
- magnetite
- meteorite
- nebula stone
- onyx
- smoky quartz
- tiger’s eye
scents to aid in black hole grounding:
- basil
- cedar
- cinnamon
- coffee
- cypress
- fir
- frankincense
- ginger
- jasmine
- myrrh
- patchouli
- pine
- sage
- sandalwood
- spruce
* a lot of my posts talk about visualization, but i know that isn’t possible for everyone - if that’s the case for you, then please don’t feel obligated to try. music, imagery, art, etc. can be really helpful when visualization is not an option. there’s more than one way to do things so take your time and do what works for you. ♡

plutonian death magic ♇ 🪦
pluto, otherwise known as hades in greek mythology, is the ruler and guardian of the underworld.
- ethically collect graveyard dirt and charge it with plutonian energy - may be used in spells that correspond with pluto’s energy, spirit work, or any act that includes honoring the dead
- create a shrine or altar dedicated to a loved one who has passed on - add a symbolic representation of pluto for the protection of your loved one in the afterlife
- create an amulet to represent an ancestor or loved one that has passed on and charge with plutonian energy - this can be worn for remembrance or to aid in contacting the spirit of this person
- some ideas for this may include: the name of your loved one; a sigil that represents their name and your intention; some of their ashes (please don’t take ashes from a family urn without permission); graveyard dirt from the grave of your loved one (again, not without permission); herbs or crystals that correspond to spirit work and death magic (perhaps even your loved one’s favorite crystal or flower)
- provide offerings to pluto for the continued protection of your loved ones in the afterlife
- plant herbs and flowers that correspond with pluto
- volunteer to work with hospice patients or to help clean up your local graveyard
- provide food and beverages on your altar or sacred space
- light a candle or incense of corresponding scent
- leave corresponding crystals or herbs in an offering dish
- leave offerings for your loved ones at their grave or on your altar
- design a crystal grid using plutonian crystals to amplify corresponding spells or rituals
- wear a crystal pendant that corresponds with pluto for the metaphorical death and rebirth of one’s self
- use the death card in your tarot deck during spells and rituals that involve death magic
i typically do not work with any deities, but sometimes i feel it’s appropriate to incorporate persephone/proserpina as well.

moon water 🌙💧
moon water is water that has been charged with lunar energy, commonly done by leaving a container of water in the path of direct moonlight - the amount of time varies from witch to witch, but usually folks will retrieve the water before the sun rises.
ideas for use
- add a drop to lunar spell jars based on intent
- add to a bath for cleansing and relaxation
- rinse and cleanse your hair with it in the shower
- purify and use in consumable potions for enhanced psychic abilities, relaxation, protection, or dreamwork
- make a cleansing spray and use in your home
- sprinkle a few drops around the perimeter of your home or bedroom
- use to anoint and cleanse objects such as magical tools or crystals
- use to anoint yourself before spellwork or divination, or simply to promote peace and relaxation
- use to charge objects with lunar energy
- water your plants with it
- add it to your water cup when painting to promote imaginative thinking and creativity
- add a few drops to the washer before washing bedsheets to promote dreaming
- use as a representation of either water, the moon, or both on your altar
- combine with corresponding crystals or herbs for an added boost of energy
- fill a hollow pendant with it and wear it to represent the moon, a particular lunar phase, or one of its associated correspondences (protection, relaxation, enhanced psychic abilities, etc.)
- anoint a charm with moon water and carry it with you for protection, safe travels, or improved memory
tips & a few words of caution:
- moon water doesn’t have to be collected “naturally” (from rain, a random stream, etc.) or come from the tap - if you want to drink your moon water, you could just as easily set a bottle of water out and drink that once it’s charged
- if you plan to use the same moon water for a while, put it in the fridge to extend its shelf life
- if you plan to add crystals to your moon water, use tumbled stones so they won’t break down or dissolve
- probably don’t drink the water you’ve added crystals to, just in case (not your pets or other people either) - i don’t want y'all to choke or get sick because the crystal degraded in the water
- don’t water your plants with cold moon water; make sure it’s lukewarm or at room temperature first
- if you’re unsure on what kind of intentions correspond to lunar energy, check out the links below
these are just some ideas on how to use moon water, but feel free to get creative!

lunar phases - explained 🌙
edited 8.18.25
- new moon - the first phase in the lunar cycle, starting at 0% illumination for a short time before transitioning to a waxing crescent. it can correspond with new beginnings, a fresh start, cleansing, exploring new opportunities, newfound health or relationships, finding peace with yourself and moving on - “out with the old and in with the new.”
- waxing moon - the moon is continuing to grow, becoming more and more visible, so it can correspond with attraction magic, reaching goals, manifestation magic, positive energy, success, wishes, good luck, gaining wealth, and dreams come true.
- first quarter - this moon is halfway illuminated, on its way to becoming fully illuminated, so it can correspond to balance, and the need to make decisions.
- full moon - the moon is fully illuminated, so it can correspond with extra energy, a magical boost, manifestation, cleansing, charging, enchanting, performing divination, and honoring lunar deities.
- third quarter - this moon is also halfway illuminated, but on its way to becoming invisible in the sky, therefore while it can still correspond with balance, it can also correspond to focusing on the task at hand, banishing, and breaking old habits.
- waning moon - the moon is becoming less illuminated, and seems as though it’s disappearing, so it can correspond to generalized negative energy, reflection, introspection, transformation of the self, banishing things, binding others actions or undoing bindings, letting go, moving on, cleansing, breaking bad habits, and finding peace.
- dark moon - the final crescent before a new moon. it can correspond to cursing, banishing, binding, seeking justice, reflection, introspection, peace, contemplation, and stillness. this is the “out with the old” part.
- blue moon - this moon is either the third of four full moons in a season, or a second full moon in a month, so its appearance can correspond to wishes, dreams, divination, achievement, and focus.
- black moon - this moon is an additional new moon that appears in a month or in a season which can correspond to extra power and manifestation, as well as banishing, releasing, cleansing, binding, and cursing. a black moon can also refer to the absence of a full moon or of a new moon in a month (which only happens in february).

crystals of the cosmos ✧
tldr; crystals that come from space
- black diamond - commonly found in brazil and africa; formed fromsupernovae explosions and then carried to earth via meteorite
- great sand sea glass - a impactite (formed from meteoric impact) found in the eastern sahara desert and spread throughout eastern libya and western egypt
- diamond - one of the largest diamond fields resides in the popigai crater in russia; formed by meteoric impact with graphite on earth’s surface; it is theorized that diamonds rain on jupiter, saturn, uranus, and neptune
- meteorite - self explanatory
- moldavite - tektite formed by meteoric impact from particles that were projected into the air, cooled, and hardened; occurred ~ 15 million years ago
- moissanite - discovered in a meteor crater in canyon diablo, arizona in 1893; thought to originate from AGB stars outside of our solar system
- opal - found in meteorites originating from mars; further suggests presence of water on mars
- peridot (olivine) - found on earth and in space; extraterrestrial peridot is mostly found in pallasite meteorites, namely the esquel meteorite that was discovered in 1951
- tektite - extraterrestrial glass; forms due to the extreme heat and force of meteoric impact which melts both the meteorite and the earth around it to form natural glass once cooled

ceres ⚳
ceres is a minor planet named after the roman goddess of agriculture (whose greek counterpart is the goddess demeter).
discovered on january 1st of 1801, ceres was initially classified as a planet but was later reclassified as a minor planet, or dwarf planet. it is the only minor planet that precedes neptune’s orbit.
the space probe dawn, that launched in 2015, found that the surface of ceres contains ice! research suggests that the core of ceres is a mix of ice and rock, while the crust could be up to 30% ice.
fun fact: ceres has ice volcanoes!
the myth behind the name: like the story of demeter and persephone, ceres loved her daughter, prosperpina, so greatly that she halted the seasons while mourning her after she was kidnapped and taken to the underworld, causing a long winter and stunting the growth of crops and plants. it was only after prosperpina was allowed to spend half the year with her mother in the overworld that the seasons resumed and crops began to grow again.
it’s pretty neat that an icy [minor] planet is named for a deity associated with winter!
ceres is classically associated with agriculture and the earth element, harvest, grains, fertility, motherhood, and marriage.
fun fact: the word “cereal” is named for ceres!
- personal associations for ceres include: law, order, justice, punishment for the unfaithful, unconditional love, unity, companionship, rage, sorrow, seasons, cycles, winter, death and rebirth.
- herbs: apples, comfrey, grains and crops of all kinds - poppy, wheat, corn, barley, oats, etc., grapes, mint, mullein, myrtle, rosemary
- crystals/minerals: canary diamond, carnelian, citrine, clear quartz, copper, garnet (it reminds me of pomegranates), gold, green aventurine, emerald, jade, malachite, moonstone, moss agate, peridot, petrified wood, rose quartz, topaz
- day of the week: friday
- lunar phase: full moon

spell timing with planetary hours ⏳
planetary hours utilize the seven classic planets including the sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars, jupiter, and saturn (although the outer planets may be used as well). the first planetary hour of any given day will correspond to that day of the week: for example, the first planetary hour on saturday will be the hour of saturn, beginning at sunrise on saturday and ending before sunrise on the following day. the time that the sun rises is different for everyone, so planetary hours are location-specific.
to calculate planetary hours, you need to know what time the sun rises and sets in your area. the length of daytime equals the time between sunrise and sunset, so figure out how many minutes are between the two, and divide by 12. this will give you the length of time between each planetary hour. do the same for nighttime (the time between sunset and sunrise the next day).
you can also just visit lunarium.co.uk to calculate planetary hours for your location: click the link, click “edit” next to the location and date on the page, choose your country/city, and click “save preferences.”
the general order of planetary hours based on the chaldean order is as follows:
- saturn
- jupiter
- mars
- sun
- venus
- mercury
- moon
the chaldean order is listed from the slowest moving planet in orbit to the fastest, although, we’ve since discovered that the earth and other planets orbits the sun, the moon orbits the earth, and that the sun is a fixed object.
because this system was put into place before the outer planets were discovered, they usually are not included, but i have still found ways to use them in my personal practice.
three of the inner planets in our solar system are said to have “higher octaves,” or outer planets that mimic their effects but are much more dramatically expressed.
low and high octave planets:
- mercury - uranus
- venus - neptune
- mars - pluto
with that being said, i like to associate the outer planets with their lower octave counterpart when it comes to using planetary hours and even “day of the week” correspondences.
the type of magic that can be performed during each planetary hour can be found here: planetary correspondences
