The fact this isn’t a painting is a testament to one of the greatest feats of set design and production I’ve ever seen.
My god just look at this! The lighting, set design, photography… I’ve just never seen anything like it.

i want y’all to know i’ve kept up with weekly ballet for a whole year now (with days off for travel/sickness) and while i’m still Not Great, i’m better at balancing, can touch my toes with no warmup, and am slowly gaining more strength/flexibility.
finding out there’s a frankenstein ballet and that it was in october of last year…DEVASTATING
look at this. look at these. im foaming at the mouth
It was stupid good. So good in fact that the bbc filmed a version and put it on dvd when it debuted. I bought that dvd after I saw the show and put it up on the Internet Archive. The audio is not great but the dancing is spectacular. Ever see a pas de deux around an anatomical dissection? You will.
You can download the mp4 file too or just hook your computer to your TV…
Ah, they’re probably coming up next! I don’t recognise the performance off the top of my head, but doing ballet is HELLISHLY INTENSE and doing it without your muscles througly warmed up is just asking for injured tendrons. In between scenes the dancers literally can’t sit still for too long or their muscles will cool down, or worse, cramp up, and if they’re not changing costumes they’re usually stretching, vigorously massaging their legs and, like here, bouncing around to the tune.
So this is a perfectly natural ballerina behavior. They’re just keeping warm and bonding. 👍
Some things in ballet never change.

Can’t go wrong with La Fille Mal Gardée, honestly. Here be chickens.
just checking in to say i’ve been doing beginner ballet for about 3 months now and though i’m maybe worse at it than any other hobby i’ve ever tried ever, i can see improvement and am very proud of myself for still going!! as a former gifted kid, it feels important to have a hobby i’m not automatically good at. feels like everyone could use a hobby they’re bad at!
