one of the deans in beijing dance academy rehearses with students

#he’s so good damn#obvs he doesn’t have the same athleticism as the students#but he’s so much more in control of his body#he moves much more self assuredly#and doesn’t exaggerate the way the more inexperienced ones do#he knows exactly what to do and how to do it naturally#wow

Oh so that’s what books mean when they talk about seeing a swordperson or a martial artist move and immediately knowing you’re fucked. If I saw someone handle a weapon or switch martial art stances that smoothly and with that economy of motion, I would immediately know I was going to die.

And in his DRESS SHOES.

One of my favorite things in the whole world will always be watching someone do something they’re an expert in.

I watched this without sound and it was just so happy and joyful I knew it could only get better with the music

And I was right

Russia’s Big Ballet-

The Big Ballet is a troupe of dancers from Russia who weigh a minimum of 220 pounds each.

“The Big Ballet formed in 1994 and set out to deliberately and, above all, self-confidently challenge accepted social standards in a world where the pursuit of slenderness and beauty seems obsessive. The dancers courageously and imposingly prove that grace, elegance, charisma and nimbleness is not the demesne of the “thin”, proudly presenting their voluptuous yet surprisingly sinuous and flexible figures.”

Oh my God, 12 year old me wouldn’t have quit if she’d had this kind of thing on her wall.

Thousand Hand Guan Yin.

From the Youtube video description:

Thousand Hand Guan Yin was a dance created by Chinese choreographer Zhang Jigang. This dance was performed by 63 deaf dancers of China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe.

Because they could not hear the music, there were 6 directors in white cloths helping them synchronizing with the music.

This dance described the legend that Bodhisattva Guan Yin has one thousand hands. Bodhisattva is a Proto-Buddha.

She can not become a Buddha because she is still attached to this world. Her vow: If there is still a single drop of tear in this world, I will not become a Buddha.

Make of video can be found here.

I have watched this beautiful video like… twenty times.. and I will watch this again… over and over.

It’s a tribute to Pina Bausch,

Um… actually it’s a tribute to choreographer Martha Graham, and there’s a really cool video to go with it.
